02.01.2022 Hi All. Wanted to share with everyone the information on the launching of the Accessible Beach Project across the Gold Coast. Such an incredible idea and I hope it really gains traction. For many Australians, going to the beach is often considered a quintessential part of our nations culture, especially here on the Gold Coast. However this has not always been the case for some. I can tell you from experience that there is very little joy in being literally dragged through th...e sand, tires sinking deeper with each inch (often an exhausting and futile process) to an activity that you can't really take part in easily anyhow. Good intentions aside, the good rarely outweighed the bad. For me, I grew to hate the sand, as it almost perfectly encapsulated a metaphor of living with disability. 'Often the process of simply 'being included' becomes so excessive and stressful that by the time we achieve access, we are too exhausted to enjoy it.'
