25.01.2022 It’s time to plant Christmas colour!!!!!

25.01.2022 Have you been to Uluru? If you go you’ll see these amazing wild flowers called Mulla Mulla. Ptilotus exaltatus Joey is the pink flowering form that we have here in the nursery today. Grows best in the sun in well drained soils. It can be grown in a pot too using Native Potting Mix. They are gorgeous.... Would make a great floral gift for a friend today. Plants cost $16.99. They look amazing. #uluru #amazing #ptilotusexaltatus #ptilotusjoey #australia #mate #gardeningaustralia #betterhomesandgardens #timsgardencentre #campbelltown See more

25.01.2022 Paul Brookes just delivered us Sugar cane and Who Flung Dung. I always have a laugh with Paul. He’s been coming here for 30 years. He looks like a footballer. I’ve often asked him if he played.... He looks like he’s had a few head high tackles. He’s been wearing Parramatta footy shorts all year, the same pair I’ve often wondered. He follows Parra religiously. He looks a bit like Peter Stirling, but he’s got hair. Almost too much. Today he’s turned up wearing Penrith footy shorts. They look new to me. What’s going on mate? What happened to the Parra shorts? Did they fall apart? We go through who’s still in the finals. Penrith plays Souths. Melbourne plays Raiders. Who’s going to win the final mate? The Raiders You better buy another pair of shorts mate. He laughs. He’s always laughing. #denpaul #paul #whoflungdungmulch #who #footy #mulch #sugarcane #happy #gardeningaustralia #betterhomesandgardens #timsgardencentre #campbelltown See more

24.01.2022 I see beauty where ever I go. Looked up to see this beautiful Pyrus capital colouring up in Mawson Park. Look how amazing it looks with the other foliage plants in this garden. The Plum Goreous and Golden Duranta really pop with the autumn/winter foliage of this beautiful tree. Even the grey leaves of the shaped Westringia are playing their part. This garden is maintained by Robert Biffin. When he goes on holidays it takes 3 guys to take his place to keep it looking like this.... I’d love to plant a tree in the park for Robert. We’ll call it Roberts tree? What do you think? #mawsonpark #robert #amazingman #workinghardtomakealiving #campbelltown #gardening #gardeningaustralia #betterhomesandgardens #timsgardencentre #campbelltown See more

23.01.2022 Great new plants and free gardening advice too. Read this, then share with a friend.

23.01.2022 Sorry guys we are closed today. We reopen tomorrow. Enjoy you’re first day of the year. Best wishes Tim

20.01.2022 I’m pruning my Goodbye Neighbours hedge today, using a 3 legged ladder. Goodbye Neighbours is one of the fastest growing hedging plants on the planet. So it keeps me busy. I was talking to my mate Clinton from Camden Garden Solutions recently, and I was asking him which ladder was the best for pruning hedges.... He ranted and raved about this 3 legged ladder made by Indalex. If you’ve ever pruned a hedge, you will know just how dangerous it can get, when your hedges get tall. There is a perception that hedges are supportive, and if the ladder does tip over, the hedge will save you. I found out a couple of years ago the hard way, that hedges don’t support ladders or humans. My ladder tipped over as I was reaching over the hedge. I fell straight through the hedge, and I had a painter working at my place, who learnt at lot of new swear words. When I left school I picked peaches for a couple of weeks, on my uncles farm in Glenorie. We used 3 legged ladders then, and I remember how stable they were. So I took Clinton’s advice, and bought my own ladder. It’s the 2.4m. I used it today, and it’s changed my life. It’s just so stable. And despite it being heavy to lift, I didn’t really have to lift it. I just moved the front leg forward, then the back legs. I was able to prune my hedge with ease. I bought my Indalex ladder, from Ladder Solutions in Leumeah. As I was pruning, I noticed holes appearing in the hedge. These holes lead to a birds nest. Hedges encourage birds to come and live in your garden. The thickness of the hedge, prevents predatory birds and cats from finding the nest. I’ll be back on the ladder tomorrow. My hedges are out of control, due to the rain, and great growing conditions. If you want to grow a fast growing hedge like Goodbye Neighbours, come and see us. #hedging #timsgardencentre #goodbyeneighbours #gardeningaustralia #betterhomesandgardens

20.01.2022 You know those trees you curse during winter? The ones from the house next door, that drop leaves in your pool. Well today, those messy trees, pay you back with shade. You won’t be complaining about that today, when temperatures hit 40. If you plant deciduous trees on the northern or western side of your house, they will shade your house from the summer sun. You’ll be able to sit outside under those trees today and enjoy the cooling shade.... It’s 10 degrees cooler in the shade. It just makes sense. Crepe Myrtles make perfect shade trees for smaller gardens. They flower for up to 100 days in summer. They grow fast. They are drought tolerant too. We have the best varieties including the black leaf Diamonds In The Dark. This is what greeted me this morning as I came home after taking the dog for a walk. 19.01.2022 The best thing you can do for Australia, on Australia Day, is to plant a tree. It could be a native or it could be a tree from around the world. They will all help shade the earth, from the hot sun. They will all provide habitat for native animals.... They will make our mental health better. They will make our environment cooler and more liveable. If you haven’t got room for a tree at your place. Plant one somewhere else. We have native tubes for just $6.99. These trees grow super fast. Here are a few of my favourite trees. Check them out. Illawarrra Fame Tree, Crepe Myrtle, Dwarf Grafted Gum, Ivory Curl Tree, Kurrajong Tree, Native Frangipani. If your planting a tree, give it a better chance of survival by planting it on a mound of IGC Planting Compost improved soil. Mulch around the base with Tim’s Termite Resistant Mulch. Water daily for the first month. Twice a week after that. Never fertilise newly planted trees or shrubs. Tell your friends you’ve planted a tree. It might inspire them to plant one too. We are open today from 9am to 4pm. Come early to avoid the heat. Plant your tree late this afternoon when it cools. Dunk it in a bucket of water for 2 minutes before planting. Hi 5 yourself for being special. #australiaday #plantatree #plantatreetoday #nativetrees #shadetrees #helpcooltheearth #globalwarming #treesaretheanswer #gardeningaustralia #betterhomesandgardens #timsgardencentre #campbelltown

19.01.2022 Hello Succulent Lovers. Just arrived Senecio Himalaya. This seaweed like plant grows in pots or gardens in sunny spots to just 60cms. 18.01.2022 I’ve got a tree growing in my garden that was uneffected by yesterday’s heat. Even the new growth is still looking fresh and new. The tree is called Brachychiton Jerilderie Red. This tree was first discovered growing in the residence garden, at Jerilderie Primary School. History shows, it was planted by a student named Maggie MacDonald, in 1880.... She probably found the seedling growing in her parents garden. In 1958 an amateur horticulturist called Walter Pyle, noticed that the trees bright red flowers were unique. It turns out Maggie’s tree, was a chance cross between an Illawarra Flame Tree, and a Kurrajong Tree. In 1983 the tree was officially recognised, as a new cultivar, called Brachychiton Jerilderie Red The tree, in the schools grounds, is now 140 years old. It’s 10 metres high, and 6 metres wide. It looks absolutely spectacular when it’s in full bloom leading up to Christmas. We’ve grafted these plants ourselves. They are amazing drought and cold tolerant evergreen trees. My one at home is 5 metres high and 3 metres wide in 5 years. I love it. Grafted trees cost $75.00. They are fast growing. 18.01.2022 All I heard about last week was the fight. It was even advertised at half time on Fox sports during A- League soccer. As if people who watch soccer, would also watch boxing. Really. I’m not a fan It’s not my cup of tea. I’d rather plant flowers. I don’t think I’d be upsetting any gardeners with these comments.... #plantflowersinstead #life #live #bekindtoothers #love #timsgardencentre #campbelltown See more

18.01.2022 One of the best bus stops in Australia. You can even get a book from the library for free. I had a quick look. Sadly there were no Dr Seuss! I have a love hate relationship with Kangaroo paws. They like sandy well drained soils. They grow well in big pots using native potting mix. But in a garden?... 18.01.2022 Our Potted Christmas Trees have arrived. They look so beautiful this year. I think these are good value. Prices start at $46.99 to $71.99. They can be grown in pots for years. They will grow about 2.5ms in 10 years, in the ground.... They will be slower in a pot. After you’ve used it as your Christmas tree, put it out in the shade for a couple of weeks, then slowly move it back into the sun. If you just put it back in full sun, the leaves will get sunburnt, turn brown, and drop off. Repot your tree into a bigger pot after Christmas. Use our Tims Best Potting Mix for best results. If you’d prefer a fresh cut Christmas tree we have them arriving this weekend. They cost $75.00 this year. They will be 1.8ms high. They make your house smell like Christmas. See more

15.01.2022 I’ve come home from 2 weeks holiday to discover Dry Patch in my lawn. I can tell I’ve got Dry Patch because the grass goes grey first, before turning yellow, and then brown. If it doesn’t rain the grass dies. The soil in these patches becomes hydrophobic, so it repels water. You can try watering these patches more, but you will discover, when you scratch the soil after watering, it’s still bone dry.... You can pray for rain, or apply Wettasoil. This agricultural detergent removes the oily barrier, so your soil can accept water again. It lasts for about 6 months. You will also have Dry Patch in your gardens too, so don’t forget to treat these areas. A dry patch in your garden, causes plants to die in a particular spot, every time it gets dry. You know that spot in your garden where everything dies????? While you’ve got the Wettasoil out, treat all your potted plants too. It helps prevent the water from just running out the bottom, every time you water. Wettasoil doesn’t replace water, it makes water go further. If you’re having trouble seeing my dry patches, follow the tyre tracks. #wettasoil #drypatch #help #rehydrates #soils #pottingmix #pots #gardens #lawns #now #summer #gardening #gardeningaustralia #betterhomesandgardens #timsgsrdencentre #campbelltown See more

15.01.2022 We are busy in the nursery today applying Wettasoil to all our potted plants. Wettasoil is an agricultural detergent that removes the oily barrier so soils can accept water. Every time you water more product is released. It lasts for 6 months. Instead of the water just draining away the potting mix accepts the water so your plants grow better. Wettasoil also contains Seaweed. This helps promote new root growth and helps protect your plants from these hot conditions.... You can use Wettasoil on your lawn and gardens too. 13.01.2022 Here’s one plant that will laugh at the heat. Casuarina Cousin It. This native ground cover spills over walls. It’s super hardy and drought proof once established. 13.01.2022 I planted a beautiful shade tree in a park near my place in late spring. It’s going to be hot today so I’m watering all my trees that I’ve planted recently. It’s no use planting trees, and then not going back to care for them. I grew this tree by grafting a piece from a tree growing in Mawson Park. It’s a Brachychiton which I’ve called Mawson Park. It’s a native tree, that grows into the most beautiful shade tree. Check out the trunk.... It’s huge. It will be an Avatar like tree, one day. The king of the forest. There’s no better feeling than planting a tree. If you’ve grown it yourself by seed, cutting or grafting, then the sensation increases. They become your children. One day when I’m old, I’ll drive past this park, and see a family enjoying the shade, on a hot day like today. Won’t that be beautiful? #trees #shade #plant #grow #love #guerillagardening #happy #brachychitonmawsonpark #native #droughttoleranttrees #amazing #parks #macarthur #gardeningaustralia #betterhomesandgardens #timsgardencentre #campbelltown See more

12.01.2022 Dear gardening friends A truck load of bare rooted fruit and spring blossom trees, turned up on Wednesday morning. We all groaned. You probably don’t know, that these trees, are grown in the ground, in Monbulk Victoria. They are then dug up, and transported to us bare rooted.... We have to pot them up before the roots dry out. They have been dipped in a mud bath to seal the roots. It’s dirty business. We had 510 trees to pot up. We went through 10m3 of Premium Potting Mix. We worked so hard, it’s crazy. Our nursery is full to the brim now with deciduous fruit and spring blossom trees. Here is the list of Fruit Trees. I’ll give you the list of Spring Blossom trees next week. Fruit trees Dwarf Apples Crimson Crisp, Gala, Granny Smith, Pink Lady, Red Fuji. Trixzie Gala, Trixzie Pink Lady. All in One Almond Trees. Apricot Moorpark, Cherries Starkrimson, Cherry Stella, Trixzie Black Cherry. Figs Black Genoa, Brown Turkey, Preston Prolific, White Adriatic, White Genoa. Mulberry Black English, Hicks Fancy. 12.01.2022 Christmas can’t be far away. Our NSW Christmas Bush have arrived. They are looking fabulous. Most of these will be given away as floral gifts by our customers. They are such good value compared to cut flowers and nothing says Merry Christmas like NSW Christmas bush. If you’re going to grow one in your garden, improve your soil, by digging in a bag of Native Potting Mix.... They can be grown in a big pot too. We stock this variety called Albery’s Red. It stays more compact, flowers early, and has these deep red bracts. If you grow one in your garden you’ll be able to give bunches of flowers away to friends every Christmas. They can be pruned to any size, but they can grow 3 metres x 2 metres. We only have 50 plants. Don’t leave your purchase to the last minute. We sell out every year. 12.01.2022 Chinese Star Jasmine looking amazing at the entrance to a fancy house in Manly. This evergreen, fast growing vine, has the most beautiful, highly perfumed, star shaped white flowers. I also love the shiny green leaves. This fast growing vine will grow in sun or shade. You can use it to cover fences or walls, simply by running wire, from point to point, so it has something to cling too. I was drawn to this gate.... I wanted to see what was through this gate. 08.01.2022 I heard the buzz of a thousand bees this morning. I stopped and looked up into this Queensland Brush Box tree to discover, these beautiful cream flowers. The bees were frantically flying from one flower to another. The flowers must be much prized for their nectar. It’s a rainforest tree from up north. It’s has beautiful big, luscious green leaves too. There’s one planted opposite Kings Charcoal Chicken shop in Queen St Campbelltown.... It’s not a tree we’ve ever stocked because it can grow 15m x 10m. It won’t grow that big in Macarthur but it’s best planted in parks and open spaces. There’s lots of treeless parks in Macarthur that would attract more people if these shade trees were planted. But everyone soon found out they grew 3 times bigger that what the label said, and the trunks and roots became a nightmare to try and remove.... I like the Kenny Tag era. He had clipped hedges and trees in all his car parks. The trees have almost disappeared, except the Camden store, which has beautiful Manchurian Pear trees. 07.01.2022 Grafted Eucalyptus are getting hard to find in nurseries. I know that, because we are getting phone calls from gardeners, from all over Sydney. Well 20 have arrived. Summer Red, Dwarf Red, Summer Beauty and Dwarf Orange. Plants cost $69.99. These grafted gums only grow 3-5 metres high and because they are grafted, they flower straight away.... The native birds and the bees love them. They are not cheap, so make sure you protect your investment. 1. Plant them straight away. If you leave it in the pot, thinking you’ll plant it one day, it will probably die, before you plant it. 2. Gardeners think you don’t have to water natives, and especially Eucalyptus. They grow in the wild don’t they? Wrong. These trees will drop dead quickly if you let the root ball dry out. Dunk them in a bucket of water for 5 minutes before planting. Plant on a mound of Native potting mix improved soil. Mulch around the base with Tims Termite Resistant mulch. Water daily for at least a month. If the root ball dries out it becomes hydrophobic. It repels the water. If this happens it’s very hard to get it wet again. In Western Australia they grow in sand. The roots travel down through the sand to find water. These grafted varieties are more forgiving when it comes to soils, but they often struggle to send roots through our clay soils, to find water. So they will need to be hand watered, during dry periods. Keep the grass at least a metre away from the base. They are beautiful trees. But if you’re not a good gardener, choose something else.

05.01.2022 Julie Hough has lived in this house since she was two. I was driving past her house this week, and spotted her Brunfelsia. Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow bush, has perfumed flowers, that fade from mauve to lilac, and then white. It gives the effect of a multi coloured shrub. This colour worked beautifully with Julies retro coloured house. That’s what made me stop. Julie says her mum planted the shrub. It’s in the perfect spot. Morning sun and then shade.... It turned out that Julies father used to make me metal windmills for the nursery 20 years ago. Julies little dog was so keen to meet me. It’s a licker, not a biter. Julie knew that Brunfelsia is poisonous to dogs, if they eat the flowers. If you’ve got dogs grow this shrub in the front yard. She was keen to show me her vegetable garden. She’s growing lettuce, herbs and carrots in a raised planter. She’s having success. She had a huge back yard. I was expecting to find a Lemon tree. She had enough room for an orchard. #brunsfelsia #yesterdaytodaytomorrow #perfumed #shrub #poisonousplants #fragrant #gardens #pots #colour #multicoloured #gardeningaustralia #betterhomesandgardens #timsgardencentre #campbelltown See more

05.01.2022 Bigger really is better. Read this to find out why.

04.01.2022 Rosie Phulmati was in her garden, out the front of her house, when I turned up. But she took me out the back and I discovered that Rosie is more than a gardener. Her back yard looked more like a nursery. She told me that gardening was only a hobby. It gives her something to do in her retirement.... I was a school teacher in Fiji She tells me. In Suva, but I followed my son to Australia, due to the political unrest, I miss Fiji, but Australia is my home now. The government here has been good to me. I’ve been praying to God that he would send someone here to buy my cactus, and here you are. So you think God sent me? Yes of course, of course. We are putting a second storey on the house in a couple of weeks so I have to move all my plants. My son is coming to live with us. I live here with my husband but we are divorced now. I’ve been praying to God to send me customers, but I don’t sell on Sundays, I put God first. Money will come later What does your son do? He’s an engineer. Rosie is very sharp with figures. I try to get a bulk deal, if I buy all her Peanut Cactus. They have become collector plants, and I’ve been trying to buy them everywhere. But she’s too sharp for me. God has answered my call, according to Rosie. She has other beautiful plants too, all potted up, and ready to sell. She tells me that I was very lucky because another lady came to buy the Peanut Cactus, but Rosie didn’t hear her knocking on the door. She was out the back pottering. We have a nice chat. I meet the most interesting people. I start carrying the plants out to my car. Come through the Church Rosie tells me. It’s the double garage with Lino on the floor, I can see the lectern. Are you the Minister? No my son is. #godbless #me #ledmeto #peanutcactus #rosie #lovelylady #gardener #realgardener #plants #pots #baskets #life #happy

04.01.2022 My Mini Phalaenopsis has burst into bloom. You’ve probably bought a few of these yourself. You’ve probably had trouble getting them to flower again? I’ve had this one for a least 3 years. It flowers for months. It’s never had Orchid food.... I just fertilise mine every spring with Tim’s FAST FOOD Fertiliser. You only need a sprinkle. If you’ve got one that’s not flowering fertilise yours now. Mine gets the morning sun through this window. It gets no sun after 10am. I water it once a week. I have to be careful because this pot doesn’t have drainage. It loves this spot and produces these beautiful flowers. Have you got a Moth Orchid that’s not flowering? Try Tim’s FAST FOOD. It’s only $16.99. Zoom zoom. We are open today and Australia Day too. (9-4). See more

03.01.2022 Our new season fruit trees turned up yesterday. Flemings Nursery has been supplying the Nursery Industry with deciduous fruit and spring blossom trees for over 100 years. The trees turn up in a truck. They are tied together in bundles of 5. We count them off, then the fun job begins. We have to pot these all up before the roots dry out. There was much banter yesterday. Stories get told around the potting bench. We shovelled at least 5m3 of potting mix yesterday and we’re only... up to Apples. I’ve gone a bit overboard with Apple trees this year. During Covid, everyone wanted to plant an Apple tree. You actually need two Apple trees, to get Apples. We are starting to pot up again this morning, it’s going to be Groundhog Day. I looked like I’d been rolling in mud yesterday. They dip the roots in a clay slurry to seal the roots. It’s old school. Most trees should be potted by the weekend. Don’t come today. We might pot you up too. 02.01.2022 I picked these tomatoes from my garden on Monday. They were picked green to avoid fruit fly damage. They are starting to turn red already. I’ve just eaten one for breakfast. Ham and tomatoes on toast.... So simple. But so amazing. The tomato tasted like fruit. Yes I know that sounds funny, because Tomatoes are fruit. But they only taste like fruit, when you grow them at home. Not too late to plant a couple tomorrow. We are closed today. #tomatoes #greentomatoes #arthursbiggreektomato #timsitaliantomato #timsgardencentre #gardeningaustralia #betterhomesandgardens See more

01.01.2022 Heading down the coast for a couple of days and just discovered the biggest Crepe Myrtle ever, in Berry. I was lining up to get a Donut from The Donut Van when I noticed the huge tree covered in flowers in the next street. It’s my first Donut in Berry. Yes I don’t like lining up so if I see too many people I just keep driving. This morning there were only two other people waiting.... I got the 6 donut option. I managed to eat 3. They were amazing, but not as amazing as the giant Crepe Myrtle. It shaded the entire house. Such beautiful, drought hardy trees, that will grow any where. I’ve never seen one this big. It must be 50 plus years old. #berry #berrydonutvan #yumyum #crepemyrtle #trees #summer #shade #pink #escape #gardening #gardeningaustralia #betterhomesandgardens #timsgardencentre #campbelltown See more
