25.01.2022 Here’s my friend and neighbour Sharon #ourmidcenturygem tendering to her succulent babies, all hand raisedwow what a fantastic success rate

24.01.2022 A nice view of flower parts from my Eucharist or Amazon Lilly. I don’t have many bulb plants, in fact there are not many in the tropical plant world, but this one pop’s up once or twice a year...a bit like a tropical daffodil! . . . I see petals, stigma, style, anthers and filaments ... #eucharisgrandiflora #eucharist #amazonlily #tropicalgardenplants #tropicalflowers #plantsmakepeoplehappy #timstropicals #subtropicalgardenplants #foliageplants #lifeisgoodwithplants #brisbanegardening #timstropicals @ Brisbane, Queensland, Australia See more

23.01.2022 This pretty little climber is Philodendron hederaceum Lemon Lime form, such a cheerful plant and no fuss . . Bit of confusion around the naming of this plant, some refer to it as P. cordatum however I believe that is incorrect ... and Lemon Lime is a cultivar of P. hederaceum

23.01.2022 A nice close up of Hibiscus tiliaceus ‘Rubra’ flower. The flowers open with delicate yellow petals and turn to a lovely soft pink and then drop, all within a day! . . A fast growing tall screening shrub or generous tropical tree often seen growing along the seaside, it’s a very beautiful screening plant in my garden .

22.01.2022 Philodendron Imperial Green about the release a new leaf...looks a bit painful

21.01.2022 Hand drawn Frangipani sketch...when you’ve got plenty of time on your hands

21.01.2022 We used to have so much trouble with possums eating our herbs, how good are these #vegepods, I have oodles of fresh herbs

21.01.2022 Morning misting in the shade house on a lovely winter’s day. This is the danger season in SEQ day’s are beautiful but night time temperatures low will no humidity, not ideal for tropical plants, so don’t water too much, sit back and enjoy, spring is just around the corner #brisbanegardening #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantsmakemehappy #subtropicalgardenplants... #tropicalgardenplants #plantsagram #plantsofinstagram #aroidaddics #urbanjungle #instagardeners #plantaddic #talkplantytome #lifeisgoodwithplants #foliageplants #aroids #aroidsofinstagram #araceae #rareplants #homejungle #livingwithplants #aroidsocietyau #foliagefanatic #foliageplant #leafporn #idrinkandigrowthings #botanicalpickmeup #gardeningisgoodforthesoul #timstropicals See more

18.01.2022 This is my hand painted wall art of my favourite plant the variegated monstera, rather happy with the way it’s turned out...it was fun doing it anyway.

17.01.2022 A nice clump of Philodendron gloriosum doing it’s thing at home...the velvet philos always ooze calmness

16.01.2022 Ever have trouble planting up against a tree? Handy hint... . This desirable Philodendron elegans is a natural climber and needs support to grow. Digging besides a tree can often be difficult and can damage roots. I dig a shallow hole and plant directly into a small cardboard box which in a short time will disintegrate. This allows the plant to be planted with an excellent growing media whilst establishing it’s roots into the soil. I often use this method and have had percent success, easy peasy

16.01.2022 Breakfast with the birds in the burbs ... noisy minors

15.01.2022 This is Monstera siltepecana, a nice mature specimen, sadly not mine but a beautiful climbing aroid which develops it’s fenestrations (perforations) only after it begins to climb...a late entry to #monsterasiltepecana

12.01.2022 The intriguing Ornamental Yam or Dioscorea discolor, a tropical vine with fascinating leaves that resemble heart-shaped stained glass windows...I’m also trying one indoors growing in leca (with average results) @ Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

10.01.2022 This beautiful aroid is Anthurium plowmanii Wave of Love, I moved it a few months ago as it got too big so it was time for a new home. As Anthuriums are shallow rooted plants they are easily moved with few drawbacks.

09.01.2022 3 successful and super easy Propagation techniques of my Dumb Cane Dieffenbachia amoena. I’ve owned this ‘Dieff’ for a number of years, it’s been happily growing in the garden but sadly blew over a couple of months ago, it was a neat plant about 1m high and I love the interesting leaf variegation. The first and easiest propagation technique was simply placing the cutting in a semi hydro nutrient solution, it’s been there for 8 weeks, just look at those new roots! it’s ...now ready for planting in the potting mix. The second method is a bit of a steal from traditional air layering, this is where the stem touches the ground and takes root - half the work is already done for you. I’ve simply wrapped the remaining stem in sphagnum moss and tied a plastic bag around it and hey presto, a very healthy shoot has emerged. Finally the third technique is simply a cane cutting sitting in pot of perlite and a shallow tray of the nutrient solution. The perlite acts as a wick and draws the solution up to the cutting encouraging it to set roots and pop out some new buds - simple! (I use see-through pots for this technique so I can see the roots develop). All very easy just encouraging nature to do it’s own thing, don’t be afraid to try something different. Just one final thingif your handling Dieffs ‘Dumb Canes’ they are toxic plants that cause swelling of the throat, skin irritations etc. so take care. See more

09.01.2022 This pretty little street tree the ‘Silver Trumpet Tree’ is thriving this spring in our neighbourhood, an older suburb in Brisbane. Tabebuia aurea (syn. T. argentea) is a species from South America, deciduous in winter it has delightful yellow gold flowers that pop out against the blue sky.

09.01.2022 Warm up on a cool winter’s afternoon...Begonia ‘Smouldering Beauty’, one of the many rhizomatous cultivars, love those hairy leaf margins and petioles #timstropicals #begonias #rhizomatousbegonia #plantsmakepeoplehappy #instagardeners #subtropicalgarden #lifeisgoodwithplants #livingwithplants #foliagefanatic #foliageplant #leafporn #idrinkandigrowthings #botanicalpickmeup #rareplants #houseplantsihave #houseplantlovers #needmoreplants #talkplantytome #livingwithplants #brisbaneplantfans @ Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

08.01.2022 The many faces of Philodendron verrucosum

07.01.2022 Just planted this delightful shrub Whitfieldia longifolia, clusters of beautiful pure white flowers and glossy green foliage. It’s native to tropical Africa and another member of my favourite flowering family of plants Acanthaceae. All species are easy to grow, generally pest resistant and look great...just what I want! #whitfieldialongifolia #whitfieldiaelongata #ruellialongifolia #tropicalgardenplants #tropicalflowers #plantsmakepeoplehappy #timstropicals #subtropicalgardenplants #lifeisgoodwithplants #whiteflowers #brisbanegardening

06.01.2022 My Japanese Lantern (or spider) Hibiscus, a frilly delicate flower with an elegant drooping habit.

05.01.2022 Anthurium bogotense, a rare and beautiful aroid in my collection

04.01.2022 Happy Monstera Monday! Still my favourite...Monstera borsigiana variegata Aurea. Unlike it’s white and green cousin, this is a slower grower

03.01.2022 Monstera line drawing...don’t really know where to go from here

03.01.2022 Oh what a pity, always good fun...but then there's always next year.

03.01.2022 How cool is this, Monstera deliciosa, the ‘common’ Monstera. This one is growing at work, can’t get enough

02.01.2022 Nature’s perfect colour , this is Justicia aurea flowering at home . . The genus Justicia is another member of one of my favourite plant families Acanthaceae, native to Mexico and Central America. Perfect for a partly shady spot in the garden, I’m delighted to see this flowering mid winter. @ Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

01.01.2022 This caught my eye today as I was walking past... Neomarica gracilis Bicolor the Walking Iris...a strappy clumping ground cover, this one is growing at work

01.01.2022 Medinilla alata ’Lalique’ the Chandelier Plant basking in the afternoon sun on a cool winter’s day. I have this growing in a elkhorn fern attached to a tree in the front garden, by planting this up high it allows the flower clusters to easily be seen. #medinilla #medinillalalique #timstropicals #plantlife #plantsmakepeoplehappy #subtropicalgarden #plantsagram #aroidlover #foliageplants #urbanjungle #lifeisgoodwithplants #rareplantcollector #tropicalgardenplants #tropicalflowers #plantsmakepeoplehappy #botanicalpickmeup #instagardener #subtropicalgarden #brisbanegarden @ Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
