25.01.2022 One in three Australian women have experienced abuse at the hands of a current or former partner. Most Australians will know one of these women. They are our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, daughters, friends, neighbours and colleagues. They all have a right to be safe and live free from violence and fear.... This is a national crisis and a national shame. It’s time to act. Everyone in the community has a role to play in the prevention of family violence. If you or someone you know is experiencing violence call 1800RESPECT. For counselling, advice and support for men who have anger, relationship or parenting issues, call the Men's Referral Service on 1300 766 491.
24.01.2022 What’s needed now is for the federal government to match the Victorian government’s investment to truly address our homelessness and social housing needs. Research by the Community Housing Industry Association of Victoria found more than 6000 additional homes a year are needed to meet the social housing shortfall; the Big Housing Build will provide for around 3000 homes a year. A federal government contribution would make this target a reality.
23.01.2022 Zero active cases for the first time since February 29! Well done, Victoria!
19.01.2022 Very well deserved!
07.01.2022 Joe Biden’s election win is a powerful example to the world of how we must put jobs at the heart of our response to climate change. Around the world governments are acknowledging the need to take strong action on climate change and they are acting. They are offering science, while the Morrison Government denies it. ... They are offering hope, while the Morrison Government pedals fear. Australia can be a renewable energy superpower and Labor has a plan to get us there.
04.01.2022 $75 million. That’s what the Andrews Government is investing in education in Footscray. I’m blown away by this. I’m still in shock, because I know what this fu...nding means for our schools and our community. Here’s the funding breakdown: - $25.29 million for Footscray High School Kinnear Campus - $18.22 million for Footscray Primary School (in addition to $2.25 million announced earlier this year for planning) - $11.16 million for Sunshine Primary School - $10 million for Rosamond Special School - $10 million for Sunshine Special Developmental School MelbourneA Investments like this don’t happen without a lot of work behind the scenes from many angles starting with the students and educators themselves. Two years ago today, I was elected as your Member for Footscray. I vowed to fight for public education for our community. This one is for you, and I couldn’t be prouder to celebrate and stand with you.
04.01.2022 Australians waiting desperately for their loved one's visa, deserve far better than Minister Alan Tudge turning his back on them.
02.01.2022 At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them. At 11am we will pause to remember those who risked and gave their lives to protect us. Lest we forget.
01.01.2022 There’s been a lot of news out of Canberra today but the most important story is the Morrison Government has announced it will cut the JobSeeker COVID supplement by $100 per fortnight from December. This will leave nearly 10,000 people in our community worse off. Now is not the time to be cutting JobSeeker.
