24.01.2022 LOST TO FIRES 2020. Four Mile Hut was located a moderate walk sets out from the Selwyn Snow Resort, winding through snowgum forest to Mt Selwyn Radio Tower. Further along, the trees open up into vast sub-alpine grasslands with views of Tabletop Mountain and Mt Jagungal. The open plains are awash with wildflowers in summer, including golden-stemmed billy buttons and orange everlasting daisies. The hut was built by Robert Hughes in 1937. He mostly used it in the non-winter mont...hs, as a base for gold fossicking, fishing and rabbiting. For many years (until about 1981) there was a box of very live dynamite under one of the bunks, presumably to give any resident silly enough to light a really big fire in the hearth, a night to remember! In the early 1970's The Bogong Group undertook the first clean up and found the dynamite. In 1978, Klaus Hueneke organised the first major restoration with members of KHA. Since then the NSW Nordic Ski Club maintain it. This is a tragic loss of our unique high country history. I was fortunate to spend an incredible night here in Feb 2019 with a stunning rainbow reaching across the sky.

24.01.2022 Toxic beauty. Captured high over the Central Coast of NSW where coal tailings meets a nearby lake.

20.01.2022 Several weeks ago I had the privilege of chartering an aerial photographic survey of some remote locations in the Northern Territory. The first set of these images explores the vast tidal flats and inter-tidal flood plains of the Tiwi Islands and Byone Harbour. These are deeply beautiful areas with a hauntingly powerful spirit. In Bynoe Harbour, the tidal variations of 5.8m expose extensive seabeds and variations in sand banks that contrast wonderfully with the impossibly blue water. On the Tiwi Islands, the end of a long dry season results in highly saline flood plains that are punctuated in vibrant reds and endlessly fascinating patterns. There is nothing quite like chartering a flight with nothing but the expectation to explore and capture images. You never quite know what to expect, and what you discover often leaves you speechless!

10.01.2022 These are certainly strange times. The longer we remain confined, the more I find myself yearning to explore. I can’t wait to be back flying over the azure waters of Shark Bay soon. Here’s hoping!

01.01.2022 Something special happens when salt meets water. Somewhere in WA!
