21.01.2022 It feels like our Summer project is moving fast! But of course we are doing the BIG wait for all that gear we have ordered, including the polyester insulation. ~~ Meanwhile we are still blocking out the layout for fit. Yesterday we measured up for the bed and dining seats. (That's the water tank poking out from under the bed area in the first photo) Graham is using structural flooring for the fixed bed, seats and small pop-up dining table. it was exciting to cut the foam to s...ize and actually try out the bed for fit! ~~ The first iteration of a storage cupboard was placed, too. The last photo is James removing the fasteners that held an extra passenger seat. Guess what? James won't be that extra passenger any more! ~~ See more
21.01.2022 Tourism is one of the largest growing industries & by the end of 2020 the number of international tourists may reach 2 billion. So tourism is a major global emitter and transport, shopping and food are the most significant contributors. #sustainabletravel http://bit.ly/2Iqrhsc
21.01.2022 Don't expect new bio-polymers to easy your conscience. It really makes sense to just refuse to buy products in single-use packaging. That is why we have started supplying unpackaged soap and shampoo bars for our guests. "...he regards compostable plastics as a negative step wasting precious resources such as land and energy creating a product designed for single use." http://bit.ly/2yaGWoH

19.01.2022 Enjoy this SHORT VIDEO featuring this cheeky strawberry thief! The days are lengthening - must be time to switch to day-light saving? - the ground is warming up - the weeds are sprouting - AND the blue tongues lizards are starting to emerge out of the rock wall in front of my office! So many reasons why spring is my favourite season here at Tin Dragon Cottages.... There really has never been a better time to be out exploring Tasmania. #Makeyourselfathome https://bit.ly/30jvlUs

18.01.2022 This author believes the lower refueling costs will encourage Australians to take EV road trips rather than overseas holidays. Rob estimated that savings on imported fuel gave him an additional $3000+ to spend in local economies including tours to wildlife parks, museums and theme parks, boat trips we may have otherwise passed up on and lunches in country cafes that rarely see tourists. http://bit.ly/2TmH2Wf

14.01.2022 Thank you Jen (from Red parka, Tasmania) for these images and your review of your stay with us July 2020. https://bit.ly/2CpfQRW ~ Outside hot tub + cold winter nights = For our little adventure in North East Tasmania this week we stayed at Tin Dragon Trail Cottages - one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever stayed! I’ve wanted to stay here since my friend @travelling_philbury posted about them a couple of years back, so now, whilst we’re taking some time to explore our... home state and eating to support all the great independent businesses here in Tassie, was the perfect time! There are several eco cottages here on 36 acres of land and we loved how everything here is done so well with environment protection as top priority. The property is a haven for native wildlife and has a beautiful creek running through that is home to platypuses! They sustainably generate all their power needs, are plastic free, provide compost options for guests and use recycled grey water... and there’s a herd of alpacas that live there too! Christine and Graham are lovely and knowledgeable hosts who are passionate about protecting this beautiful part of Tasmania. They also are very Covid aware, so we felt very safe in our gorgeous, clean, eco cottage! All in all, staying here felt good in all the right ways and we couldn’t recommend them more! That hot tub was seriously amazing too - there’s nothing quite like relaxing in the tub at night with a glass of wine and an incredible view of the stars above! Oh, and did I mention alpacas?? Make sure you swipe to see them - I love them so much!! See more

13.01.2022 It is always great to learn how guests experience their stay with us. This Google review was from Rebecca: "Welcoming hosts were the first step we embraced in a very relaxing stay at Tin Dragon Cottages. High cliffs and bushland bordered a paddock of alpacas and roaming chooks out one window of our cottage and a river-edged picnic area with kayaks to adventure in out the other side. The shallow rapids provided one of our family members with a story to take home! I enjoyed and was moved by the sculpture walk commemorating Ah Ping and the Chinese history in the area. The cottages were meticulously constructed by the owner and everything thoughtfully provided. We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend 2 nights minimum to explore everything on offer. P.S the eggs provided by the resident chooks to enjoy at breakfast were exquisite."
12.01.2022 This young possum was found with its lifeless mother in the bush near our house. We looked after the little guy, bottle-feeding it at first. Then it was fed on fruit and vegetables, till it was big enough to go outside. We made a tree house for it to sleep in during the day. It lived here for about one week. Then one morning it didn't come home again!
12.01.2022 Next time you visit take a slow drive and enjoy the view! #Northeasttasmania #discoverTasmania #tindragoncottages
11.01.2022 There really has never been a better time to explore Tasmania! Great weather, no crowds and the world's finest natural scenery. 09.01.2022 'A cosy and very well equipped farm cottage in a lovely rural setting with alpacas in the next paddock. We were only 8 kms from Derby, where we rode some Blue Derby trails. Graham and Christine, the hosts, are very friendly and helpful, full of information about the present and past. We thoroughly recommend Tin Dragon Cottages.' REVIEW by Jane S who stayed in Ah Ping two-bedroom cottage Nov 2019
09.01.2022 Just escape to your own reality. ~ #tindragoncottages #northeasttasmania
09.01.2022 The alpacas have agreed that this new online business pivot is almost as much fun as running a tourism business! This is our new micro-mill in action - producing alpaca rovings! This video stars your host, Graham. ~~ Next time you stay with us you are most welcome to see our new micro-mill in operation. And, of course, our mill runs completely on our own renewable power!... https://bit.ly/35XKoG2
08.01.2022 This short video was taken at the event to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Mt Paris Dam in north east Tasmania. An unusual design by John Proud, one of the survivors of the Stinson plane crash in Queensland. This dam was built to supply water by water race and fluming to the Mt Paris tin mine some distance away. http://bit.ly/2eoO5wJ
06.01.2022 It's so quiet here during - #COVID-19 So we have time to reflect and enjoy our surroundings. I thought you may be interested in some of the photos our guests have posted online. Our final visitors before lock-down...back in early march 2020
06.01.2022 What can I say? We are just crazy about daffodils. We are love our spring garden! #tindragoncottages #northeasttasmania
05.01.2022 So pleased Forestry Tasmania have desisted from their original plans to log the native forest surrounding the BlueDerby MTB trails! ...Co-owner of the Tin Dragon Trail Cottages Graham Cashion said the trails were going gangbusters. His business had its best period for visitor numbers since opening in 2008.... He warned against harming the trails, which were like the goose that laid the golden egg. http://bit.ly/2f4Hkvy
05.01.2022 A morning walk is a great start to the day at Tin Dragon Cottages. This is the view of Branxholm from our neighbour's property.
04.01.2022 Our small herd of alpacas are our much loved pets. They not only give us, and our guest,s much joy, but now they are also providing us with beautiful soft fibre for spinning, weaving, knitting, crocheting, felting... ~~ We are selling carded alpaca fleece online. So you can enjoy their fleece too! ~~ Even if you aren't into fibre crafts, you may like to see how we process the fibre in our workshop, next time you visit. 03.01.2022 I love getting out for a walk around my town in the mornings--there are so many photo opportunities! This is the original Branxholm railway station, opened in July 1911. Now it sits, mostly forgotten, looking out over the township. So many memories of fond welcomes and goodbyes must linger in those waiting rooms.
02.01.2022 This walk has all the elements of a classic Tasmanian walk: slippery tree roots, dizzying heights, rock scrambling, button grass, water features and sections where the marked track is hard to find! Enjoy this read. #tindragoncottages #discovertasmania https://bit.ly/2RZq3J4
