24.01.2022 In Ye old days of Yore.... Whatever that means???? Tinsmiths would make candle moulds for the Candlestick makers.. Today we at share in this tradition. Here are 48 candle moulds ( hand made to the same size) neatly put into two trays of 24... We don’t make light of our work but this is about the sixth set of semi mass production moulds we have manufactured.
18.01.2022 I remember as a wee Chilie bean... the old cast iron oval plates with numbers on them nailed to the front fence post near the gate and letter box.. Guess you could buy them for a guinea (1/10) back then. Soooo! Tinkers World made a copper replica complete with casting marks fo Number 26.... we fink it’s so cool!
17.01.2022 To cap off a busy weekend... 70 stump caps for Wellington Point business centre.. They have totem poles throughout the Main Street... All the caps are different sizes some needed oval caps... They ranged from 200mm to 330 mm diameters... Therefore each cap had to be made individually! Thank you my trusty apprentice for you assistance!
17.01.2022 New owner of his pet cockroach named him George... So George the cockroach is now seated on top of owners work vehicle... George’s new role is to seek and destroy all those little cockroaches that try and cross our southern border.. You go you good thing!

15.01.2022 Last year a customer came in with a unique project in mind... Firstly he asked if I knew what a Fibonacci Spiral was.. I did know this.. duh.. It is the natural spiral found in nature.. shells, pine cones etc..Well, the customer wanted TW to build a Fibonacci chimney .. Not does the chimney follow the spiral but it has four Venturi cones within the chimney to allow a more active air flow . This chimney is just over a metre high
12.01.2022 Tinkers World is all about keeping tinsmithing alive and producing new 21st century bespoke items. After reading comments from previous post I agree our creations are just that! Our creations! And along the way not everyone appreciates our work! With today’s pics, we were asked to make a baseball cap out of metal that sits on a metal stand.. Always happy to oblige.. btw! Great to get All feedback!
11.01.2022 Ya can’t get good apprentices nowadays... this ‘ere young lad started with me many, many , many .... many years ago and still on second year apprenticeship wages.... He’s happy to make the tea and coffee and sweep the floors And pose for pics..... okay I’ll fess up... Bob took one of my classes five years ago and we’ve been friends ever since then... Recently I’ve been up in Townsville experiencing floods, dust storms plagues and killing of all the first born mosquitoes... and my dear friend has assisted me at Tinkers World in Brisbane while I’ve been away swimming in croc infested waters... Thanks heaps Bob... your third year wages are in the post!
11.01.2022 Well we are not having nightmares here at Tinkers World, dreaming of giant cockroaches.. AND we are true maroon Queenslanders... Pest control guy came and wanted a 800mm cockroach for the top of his truck.. Now I know we can even do dirty cockroaches... Yuk only good cockroaches are dead cockroaches
08.01.2022 Nothing like it! Making your own set of metal canisters. A couple did one of our introductory set of classes and the wife assisted by hubby made these canisters. Very impressive!
07.01.2022 Tanks!!! For the past seven plus years from Tinkers World commencement we have been trying to keep a lost trade going.. It has been wildly beyond our dreams.. however... Yep, there is a however, Tinkers World will close in 2020. The owner, moi, needs to go and work for a living to replenish the deficits... Somehow we still have a lot of jobs to complete. But there is hope we hope, I hope to come back and continue the fantasy of preserving the skills of the tinker..training others, sharing stupid jokes and stories...sharing our comparing and love... let us hope... Tanks for all of your love and support
05.01.2022 These pots and pans made out of copper are very old. In order to make them food safe all copper cooking utensils must be tinned. A thin layer of tin in the 21st century can be either electro plated or by using the 16th century method of hand wiping the hot tin onto the heated pot. Tinkers World uses the hand wiping process! Once completed these pots will be used during the Abbey Festival north of Brisbane
04.01.2022 Wanted to show this chook feeder for a while... This is one of my students individual work. Half the roof is hinged at the peak ... aids filling the food. I think it originally was going to hang but her hens have other ideas... very unique and in line with Tinkers World bespoke items!
02.01.2022 A customer came into our shop the other day... ( no this not a tall story!). Well they had a cane steamer and a large Rina ware pot... they needed a connection of their two items for a larger volume water below ... So! As the story does unfold, we at Tinkers World manufactured a 1mm black steel ring for the connecting piece.. Such a simple piece but quite effective... The steel ring has an edge on the outside and a swaged dip on the inside to stop the cane basket sliding off and the ring staying on the pot!! whatcha think?
