25.01.2022 Caravanserai Designs bracelet made with hard-to-find vulcanite beads from West Africa. Also known as "diguida" beads, the are in fact thin plastic discs - much like bakelite - and are worn as long strands by tribes in West Africa. This piece features an Ethiopian cross.

22.01.2022 An enormous thank you to my beautiful friend Jerry Galea of Jerry Galea Photography who spent hours shooting some of the Caravanserai Designs collection. Thank you! It was such fun. Jerry captured the whimsical aspect of our Inspiration Bracelets perfectly in this image. These are made using coloured howlite beads (a semi-precious stone) coupled with a charm.

19.01.2022 It has been a busy year for Caravanserai Designs and my jewellery making has kept me from updating my Facebook page - sorry! I'm excited to announce I will be taking my jewels to the Emu Plains Market at the Balnarring Racecourse which launches on Saturday 15 December, from 8:00am-1:00pm - timed perfectly for Christmas! Set under the canopy of a beautiful stringybark forest, the market promises to be super lovely - part craft, vintage, farmers and gourmet - from the Morningt...on Peninsula. Hope to see you there... www.emuplainsmarket.com.au

08.01.2022 What does caravanserai mean? caravan-ser-ai is derived from "caravan" (travellers) and "serai" (inn). A caravanserai was a safe haven and shelter for travellers and merchants journeying on camel in the desert, along trading routes in North Africa and the Middle East. It was here caravans could rest and recover from the day's journey and engage in trade with one another safely.

01.01.2022 Caravanserai Designs necklace made with red bakelite discs known as 'diguida' in West Africa. They are a tribal bead, of which a single necklace may number many hundreds. In Africa, these necklaces are often strung with a variety of these colourful discs, however red diguida necklaces are preferred and usually fetch higher prices. Caravanserai Designs has incorporated a striking single black volcanic bead in the centre of this piece.
