24.01.2022 200,000 Barramundi fingerlings will be released into Lake Kununurra before the end of the year! As part of the McGowan Government’s $6 million recfishing package, this announcement will shape the fishing future of Lake Kununurra for years to to come. Thank you to Matty Cox and the local stocking group for your hard work in maintaining an iconic West Australian experience.
24.01.2022 We're assessing further options regarding the COVID-19 outbreak in South Australia. I strongly urge anyone about to leave Adelaide for Perth to reconsider their travel. More to come.
23.01.2022 A very different ASEAN Dialogue this year! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and closed international borders, the annual ASEAN Dialogue has moved to an online format with daily forums over this week 16-20 November. With so much of WA's economic prosperity and jobs linked to our trade, it is even more important than ever to build and maintain connections with our region.... #asianengagement #wajobs
22.01.2022 Jurien Bay is a great this time of year and catching up with the executive of the Jurien Bay RSL sub-branch made my day. The crew up here have BIG plans for a new community centre that will be a fantastic asset for Jurien Bay and our coastal communities north of Perth. Also brought them up to date about how the McGowan Government is prioritising veteran employment in WA and getting ADF skills into civilian jobs.
22.01.2022 Marine Produce Australia's vision for their Cone Bay Barramundi aquaculture expansion will create over 1,300 jobs and up to $360million of economic activity every year in the Kimberly region of WA. It is because of job creating opportunities such as this that the McGowan Government is supporting WA aquaculture as a key part of economic recovery. MPA are working closely with the State Government to deliver on their expansion and the McGowan Government welcomes job creating... projects such as this to WA. #warecovery #wajobs See more
18.01.2022 The amount of caravans I’ve passed on the drive today blows my mind. Coastal hubs like Jurien Bay have had wall to wall domestic tourists since the intrastate borders came down in May. The COVID crisis has become an opportunity for the Shire of Dandaragan - thanks to the President Leslie Holmes for meeting me today.... If you’re wandering out yonder this school holidays, please drive safe.
17.01.2022 Big day as the Governor and Premier together with RSLWA officially opened the new ANZAC House. Years in the making, ANZAC House will be home to Veterans Central WA - a hub focused on health, housing and employment services for our Veterans. I’d like to thank RSLWA CEO John McCourt and President Peter Aspinall for their vision and tireless commitment to assisting Western Australia’s Veteran community.
16.01.2022 Big turn-out yesterday for Community Cabinet on Yawuru country in Broome. Questions from the community included job creation opportunities, the environment, addressing family and domestic violence, alcohol management and more. The visit by the McGowan Government included announcements on social and economic initiatives as part of the McGowan Government's $5.5 billion WA Recovery Plan.
15.01.2022 This year has been rough, here's my ode to 2020.
14.01.2022 They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.... Lest we forget.
14.01.2022 Check out this little beauty, straight out of the oyster on the deck of the Paspaley 4!!! WA's pearling industry produces hands down the best quality pearls in the world. If you're treating yourself or someone you love to something special I encourage you to support the WA pearling industry during this tough time and feel great knowing you're not only getting the best, but supporting WA jobs too!! #warecovery #wajobs
13.01.2022 I’m happy to say recreational abalone fishers in the West Coast Zone will benefit from an extra Saturday fishing hour in the coming 2020-21 season to fish for the much-prized Roe's abalone this summer. There will now be five fishing hours, between 7am and 8am, across designated Saturdays on December 12, January 9, January 23, February 6 and February 20. Having an extra Saturday for a fifth recreational fishing hour is a result of lifting the recreational catch range from 18-2...2 tonnes last season, to 28-32 tonnes for the coming season. It’s remarkable to think the Roe's abalone stocks have now returned to pre-marine heatwave levels. This is the first successful recovery of an abalone stock in Australia which is a huge credit to the entire WA fishing community.
12.01.2022 As you now know, the community outbreak of COVID-19 in South Australia is extremely serious. As a result, yesterday, we acted swiftly to strengthen our controll...ed border regime with South Australia. Those were initial steps to protect all Western Australians, until we received further information on the South Australian outbreak. I can now outline some further measures to protect the health and safety of the WA community. Since our announcements yesterday, I am advised that the updated controlled border regime with South Australia has come into effect without major issues. I understand those changes have caused frustration and disappointment for some, but this is a deadly virus that we cannot take any chances on. Here in Western Australia, we will do whatever it takes to protect our citizens and our way of life. I always said that we would not hesitate to bring in tougher border controls if required. Unfortunately, the time for those tougher border controls came faster than anyone could have expected. And we don’t have time to waste. That’s why on, on further advice from our Chief Health Officer this morning, we have decided to take further steps to protect our State and reduce the risk of the virus entering WA. Given the size of the outbreak, our Chief Health Officer has now determined that South Australia has moved from a ‘very low risk’ category to the ‘medium risk’ category. This is the highest rating of any other state or territory and South Australia may move to the ‘high risk’ category very soon. As a result, effective from 6pm tonight, we will further restrict travel from South Australia or anyone that has been in South Australia in the previous 14 days. This means they will need to meet a strict exemption category for those travellers to enter WA. This exemption system mirrors the system we had in place for Victoria during the height of their second wave. The exemption list for South Australia is limited to: - certain senior Government Officials; - certain active military personnel; - a member of the Commonwealth Parliament; - a person carrying out functions under a law of the Commonwealth; - a person coming to WA at the request of the Chief Health Officer; - a person responsible for transport freight or logistics; and - anyone who is given approval by the State Emergency Coordinator or an authorised officer. That final category includes compassionate reasons and that could include those Western Australians that may have travelled to South Australia in the last few days. Tonight we have two flights from Adelaide scheduled to arrive for anyone on those flights, they will now need to be processed through the exemption system. Those passengers are being notified of the changes by the airlines and at the Adelaide airport, before they board. For those small number of arrivals, they will need to self-quarantine at a suitable premise for 14 days subject to use of the G2G Now app and/or police checks. If a suitable premise is not available, they will be put in hotel quarantine at their own expense. They will also need to be tested for COVID-19 on arrival at Perth Airport and on Day 11, prior to coming out of 14 days of quarantine. For anyone arriving by road, through the Eucla checkpoint, this system will begin 48 hours later - from 6pm Wednesday November 18. We are allowing for some additional time for this form of travel, as we understand many people may already be on their way to the checkpoint. However, these people will still need quarantine for 14 days and be tested within 48 hours of arrival and on Day 11. These border controls will be constantly reviewed and can be tightened, extended or relaxed depending on the latest health advice from South Australia. But I urge everyone to reconsider their travel into WA if they have been in South Australia. Please do not come to WA at this point, if you don’t have to. The situation is just too risky right now. These steps, while they might seem harsh, are being taken on the best health advice to protect everyone. Bringing back the hard border altogether - to all States and Territories - is under serious consideration. We are closely monitoring the situation and if we need to go further, we will. Thanks again for your patience and understanding as we work through this extraordinary situation.
10.01.2022 Terrific to launch our Aquaculture Development Plan in Fremantle today. With our pristine and expansive coastline, aquaculture is an area of huge opportunity for Western Australia, and if successful we can create somewhere around 6,000 jobs and help diversify the WA economy. Aquaculture is the world's fastest-growing food production sector and we have now positioned WA to help meet the increasing demand for seafood products.... Thanks to everyone who was involved in making this happen. #wajobs #recovery #aquaculture
09.01.2022 Free the fish! The metro fish stocking program has taken another big step forward with the release of a further 10,000 yellowtail kingfish from South Mole at Fremantle. Stocking yellowtail kingfish in the metro area is part of a recfishing COVID recovery package we announced in August.... The package will will deliver around 40 new jobs and help support 1,320 existing jobs. Western Australians love their fishing and these initiatives will further enhance rec fishing for locals. Check out the video from Recfishwest https://youtu.be/eRqhLKpVsho
09.01.2022 In a very tough year please take the time to pause and reflect on the effort and sacrifice of past generations. If we are resilient it is because of them.
09.01.2022 Was great to catch up with my colleague Sabine Winton MLA onsite at two new affordable housing developments near the heart of the Wanneroo town centre. Development of the first two lots of the seven-lot Hastings Quarter project is expected to contribute about $13.3 million in economic activity and support 34 jobs during construction. Now Living was selected to construct 20 affordable apartments at 8 Shaw Road, while Terrace Homes WA will deliver 12 affordable townhouses at 11 Principal Street, Wanneroo.

08.01.2022 The SharkSmart WA app has proved popular with beach goers, with more than 30,000 downloads in just 12 months! It’s part of the McGowan Government’s comprehensive shark mitigation strategy and it provides information on Surf Life Saving WA patrolled beaches, weather forecasts and more. As we move into summer, I’d encourage as many people to download the app to keep up to date with all the latest safety information before hitting the beach
07.01.2022 Dropped into the ABC Kununurra studio to have a chat about the McGowan Government's $5.5 billion WA Recovery Plan. This includes a $6 million Rec Fish Package, which is supporting the release of a million Barramundi into Lake Kununurra, as well as the $319 million Social Housing Package and $20 million for a new Aboriginal short stay facility in Kununurra.
07.01.2022 Come down to London Court and pay a visit to the Poppy Ladies. They’ve worked so hard to decorate the Court with poppies and it’s a spectacular sight! Show your support as we come into Remembrance Day 2020.
06.01.2022 Great to talk jobs and diversifying our economy in the CBD today. WA small and medium enterprises wanting to build trade with four key Asia markets have attended a series of forums on how to develop stronger business ties with Vietnam, India, Philippines and Indonesia Today we were talking India.... India was WA’s 15th largest trading partner in 2019, with trade valued at $2.1 billion, and its 11th largest merchandise export market, valued at $1.7 billion, accounting for 12% of Australia’s merchandise exports to India in 2019. We have an enormous opportunity to continue to build on this, and it was fantastic to see so many people in the room who are keen to make that happen.
06.01.2022 As part of National Road Safety Week (15th 22nd November), today is WA’s first ever ‘Thank a School Traffic Warden Day’. So when you're picking up the kids today why not take the time to pop over and say thank you to the people who keep our students safe each and every school day.
04.01.2022 It is great to see local businesses like Steven Jones' Kimberley Sun Painting directly benefit from government investment which is providing a pipeline of works to improve WA’s social housing stock. Creating and supporting employment opportunities for Western Australians is a key aim of our Government’s $319million investment in economic recovery measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. #WAJOBS #REGIONALWAJOBS
04.01.2022 Community is at the heart of our Containers for Change scheme. It provides an exciting new opportunity for community groups, sporting clubs, charities and schools to fundraise for their important causes. We have had more than 1,000 organisations already register and expect that number to continue to grow. Find out where your nearest refund point is located at www.containersforchange.com.au
03.01.2022 Giving the old battle-axe blocks the chop! We have been trialling an innovative approach to subdivision and housing design, and these Harriot Street homes in Willagee are the first side-by-side developments the Department of Communities has taken to market in place of traditional battle-axe subdivisions. The design offers good backyards and equal street access, while we have also retained the beautiful, mature jacarandas, which is a really great result. ... Both homes are already under offer after being listed on the market three weeks ago from $515,000. And the good news is there will be more of these coming up in Innaloo and Como in the near future. Housing will be a significant part of WA's post-COVID recovery, and if we do it in an innovative and forward-thinking way, there will be great outcomes for Western Australia.
02.01.2022 We are proud of the McGowan Government's Support for the Housing and Construction Industry during COVID-19, keeping thousands of West Aussies in employment. The Government's support has also meant that thousands of WA Families will be moving in to their new homes in 2021.
01.01.2022 Local Government Minister David Templeman and I caught up with the Shire of Halls Creek Youth Engagement Night Officers (YENO) team during our recent visit to the Kimberley. Since May 2019, this fantastic group has worked closely with the children, families, and the community as part of the first #justiceReinvestment site, Olabud Doogethu (Everyone Together). Since that time there has been close to a 50 per cent reduction in burglary offences. Keep up the great work guys it's really appreciated.
01.01.2022 Had the pleasure of presenting a Lotterywest cheque for $40,000 to assist Fishability manage the financial impacts of COVID-19. Fishability continue to show that recreational fishing can be enjoyed by people of all abilities, be it on the shore, jetty or from a boat.
