22.01.2022 Really pleased that my latest tiny house kit has been finished and moved to its new location for permanent living. It took 10 days for the construction plus electrical and plumbing trades. My kit system is suitable for people who have some carpentry skills and access to carpentry tools. Alternatively you could engage some tradies to help build it. PM me if you are interested in my kit system.

18.01.2022 Really enjoying some time use my skills in liveable house design to focus on designing a few accessible tiny houses to launch in the coming weeks. These designs will include larger accessible bathrooms, step free shower, elevator bed, and they can have lower set windows and bench heights, non slip surfaces and no loft, plus more! Whilst they will be great for loads of prospective tiny house dwellers the key focus will be people with mobility considerations. Watch this space or send me an enquiry to be notified of plans and pricing. "Live a life of Freedom" Janine

16.01.2022 Last week I visited Jan my tiny house client to see how she has settled in with tiny house living. Jan was already a minimalist so that has helped in her transition to living tiny. Before the summer she will be installing some shade sails on the north and west to help reduce the radiation from the summer sun. The ceiling fan and infrared heater have been working great. And Jan has a great outlook to top it off.

15.01.2022 LIVING TINY IN A BUSHFIRE PRONE AREA BY JANINE STRACHAN ‘TINY HOUSE GURU’ With the bushfire season approaching I am encouraging those living in or seeking to live tiny in bushfire prone areas to be prepared for the upcoming season. The Australian bush is highly flammable and the 2019/20 summer bushfires resulted in the devastating loss of life, wildlife, buildings, businesses and long term health impacts. I am not advising people against living tiny in bushfire prone areas, ...Continue reading

03.01.2022 Not only do I have my tiny house company, I am also Vice President of the Australian Tiny House Association (ATHA) and I have been leading the development of a Tiny House Construction Code with other tiny house builders to make a submission to the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) in the coming weeks. I am leading this for ATHA because tiny houses straddle a regulatory divide, with local councils and state agencies not knowing how to treat them. In order for tiny houses to be accepted as a legitimate housing choice we need tiny houses to be built with safety and structural integrity at the forefront both for dwellers and the road using public during transport to be safe. I look forward to keeping you informed on the progress of these moves here. Take care in these difficult times.

02.01.2022 I am getting Gumnut the prototype tiny house ready for moving to its next home in Victoria's Surfcoast. There it will be on a stunning property for Airbnb later this year, as Victoria transitions out of lockdown. If you are moving a tiny house you need to do it systematically to ensure you prepare it for safe road travel. Get travel insurance, arrange transport with someone who has towed large structures before, make sure the trailer brakes, lights, and tyres are all working as intended. Check the route for no overhead obstructions and the site is easily accessible. Click on the videos here to see a few more things to think about. Also this will demonstrate why if you live in a bushfire prone area, you need to consider leaving your tiny house in situ in the event of a bushfire. I will blog on that again in the coming months.
