24.01.2022 Yesterday I caught up with hard-working members of the Glen Innes Showground Trust, ahead of next months 150th Glen Innes Show. I also took the opportunity to... inspect progress on work to replace the 108-year-old roof on the heritage listed cattle pavilion. The State Government provided $30,000 for the restoration work, which will be finished for the show. It all looks magnificent! This Showground is one of the best maintained and presented in country NSW.

17.01.2022 Burning a few dead trees. To think that just 2 weeks ago it was so dry and dreadful. Amazing how 100 mls of rain can transform the country.

16.01.2022 Just finished supering (fertiliser). Some info about the job. Each plane load is approx 1.7tones. It takes about 5-8 minutes to spread, all using satellite nav...igation. The plane (turboprop) uses just under 2ltrs of fuel a minute.....idling. For our job, that's about 70 takeoff & landings. See more

15.01.2022 This is an unusual post for me. Does anyone know where we can get a b-double load of reasonably good hay..........yes I know, join the line like everyone else.... Well yes, we had a good lot of hay stored just for this situation; Ive got 10 large bales left and just cant find any more. We have cotton seed, but as the old saying goes you cant feed an elephant on peanuts alone ie just cotton seed is not enough. Current situation: we have 120 heifers that we need to yard wean the calves early to save both. We also have 400 cows left that are about to start calving in 2weeks (cant truck them off to be killed because they might go down in the trucks). Hence the need for hay with some reasonable protein level. Just an aside.... like so many others I suppose ....... theres 70years of breeding genetics in this herd, Thats why we protect ourselves from drought.....not this one. Its just too nasty. Even when one can afford to buy the hay (thats because weve been saving for half a lifetime for retirement) theres no hay available. The hay runs are amazingly generous and well meaning but if we cant get a mountain of hay very soon into the Northern Tablelands to feed the remaining herds that have been drought prepared.....I cant think about it.... Need rain, but desperate for hay.

15.01.2022 Love it courtesy of grandpa les.

13.01.2022 Just a little of what we had to cope with yesterday, along with feeding cattle and carting water. The fires have taken out about 500 acres so far and still going. What a day!

13.01.2022 Thanks for a great article in The Land, Queensland Country Life, Stock Journal and FarmOnline https://www.theland.com.au//new-online-tool-cuts-through-m

10.01.2022 Now having had time to sit back and reflect on our 2nd annual bull sale held on the 6th of July we are still extremely pleased and overwhelmed with the sale day... proceedings and results. 23/23 Battalion & Cara Park bulls sold for an average of $7434 with the top price of $15,000 for Lot 2 Battalion Blackjack P058 to John Smith. Other high prices include: Lot 9 Cara Park Knockout P8033 $14,000 - John Smith Lot 7 Battalion Hurricane P059 $12,000 - Sophie Hartley Lot 13 Cara Park Advance P8085 $10,000 - JT & PM O'Brien Lot 19 Cara Park Cara Park Knockout P8106 $10,000 - Sophie Hartley Lot 1 Battalion Big Mac P058 $9000 - Collingwood Herefords Lot 3 Battalion Battalion Rimfire P054 $9000 - John Craig Lot 10 Cara Park Buckshot P8055 $9000 - Cameron Tongue We would like to thank everyone that attended or requested a catalogue, those that bid but were unsuccessful and of course the successful purchasers. Thank you all for your contribution to a great sale and identifying value in our breeding programs. We must also thank our many helpful volunteers, friends and family that assisted in many different ways in the lead-up and on sale day. All the businesses who advertised in the catalogue and donated products as gifts to our purchasers. Paul Dooley and our much-appreciated agents Colin Say & Co P/L, what a great team of men and women. There are far too many people to list individually without accidentally forgetting someone that has made this sale a success, so please know that if you are reading this post you too have most likely contributed in some manner. For following our progress with the stud and just taking the time to keep an eye on what we are doing, we say Thank you!

07.01.2022 In June 2017 we had the opportunity to plant 240 hectares of chickpeas, by the end of July half of these had been eaten by the roos and the other half will prob...ably be eaten in the next month. It makes me wonder what proportion of the Greens income is also donated to keeping these native animals alive. See more
