07.01.2022 Did you know that you need a PIC (Property Identification Code) if you keep one or more alpacas under regulations in each state jurisdiction? It is part of a na...tional agreement to maintain a register of the locations of livestock and property owner, or manager contact details. A PIC is an eight-character code allocated by the state department of agriculture (or an equivalent authority in each state or territory) to identify a livestock-producing property. The PIC forms the basis of Australia’s food safety and traceability programs and is used in cases of disease outbreaks, bushfires and animal emergencies. As a step towards enhanced biosecurity, there is a space in eAlpaca for you to record your PIC number. If you'd like some more information, please contact the AAA on 02 6151 2073. For information about how to apply for a PIC in your state jurisdiction: NSW All livestock owners/managers must have a PIC, regardless of whether the livestock are moved or not. This is a requirement under the Biosecurity (NLIS) Regulation 2017 and Biosecurity Act 2015. https://www.lls.nsw.gov.au/livestock/pics ACT To apply for a PIC in the ACT an application form must be completed. https://form.act.gov.au/smartforms/servlet/SmartForm.html Victoria You can apply for a PIC online via https://pic.agriculture.vic.gov.au/ or contact the PIC Helpline on 1800 678 779 to have a form mailed or faxed to you. Tasmania All properties that run livestock must be registered with DPIPW and have a PIC allocated https://dpipwe.tas.gov.au//property-identification-code-(p QLD When you register as a registered biosecurity entity (RBE) you will be allocated the PIC that is associated with the land where you keep your animal(s). https://www.business.qld.gov.au//agric/land-management/pic South Australia Property registration is mandatory under the Livestock Act 1997. To apply - https://www.pir.sa.gov.au//property_identification_code_pic Western Australia People with any livestock in WA must be registered as owners of livestock with the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) Brands Register.
