This is a little story about that village boy who came from Lepa who dared to grow ...into greatness That little boy who came from an unknown family was raised within the village structure, who DARED to mingle with those born in to priviledge What made him think that he can reach the heights of an education system that accorded opportunities to those with priviledge? The village boy who had to take a longboat 25km to catch a bus at Falealili to attend school in Apia and DARED to become Head Boy and then Dux of St Joseph’s College how DARE he! The village boy who left home with only the shirt on his back to live with an Aunty in Apia just to go to school, got himself a scholarship and eventually earned a Masters in Commerce.how DARE he! How DARE this village boy whose father was unknown become a Public Servant and eventually rise to a political career still virtually unknown??!!!! What made this village boy whose first few years of education was in the house of a Faifeau, become a politician in a Policital Party that quickly eradicated the divide between those with priviledges and those who like him, came from nothing???!!! How DARE he! How DARE he remove the poverty of opportunity from his people making it possible for every Samoan to get a scholarship and become like him????!!! This village boy who bathed in communal watering pools as a child DARED to ask New Zealand and Australia to take on others like him through an annual quota system Thank God some of these people have seen the light and are now mocking him from the comforts of their insulated and carpeted homes while they eat KFC, forgetting what it was like having to plant crops in order to eat, day after day. And nowthis village boy, who came from nothing.... Thinks he can go up against a Princess of the country Who grew up with priviledge, who is more deserving because of that priviledge. How DARE he! Oh yesthe priviledged and entitled have rallied, buoyed by the grateful arms of those who would rather forget from whence they came and now know better having being enlightened by the opportunities and the education this village boy gave them. He slept on rocks Studied by the light of the kitchen fires Walked barefoot to school WHO DOES HE THINK HE IS?? Take away this village boy who DARED! Return us to a time when the priviledged and the entitled were set apart from people like him..... People like the village boy who dared! How DARE you Tuilaepa!!! How DARE you raise up your people so they could all be equal in priviledges, in entitlements, in welfare and in wealth! HOW DARE YOU!
