24.01.2022 Meet Kyoshi Michael Noonan, The Karate Institute’s Principal, founder and head Instructor. Recorded in early December at the Tasseikan Dojo Peakhurst, we're pro...ud to release this bio film. Over the next month or so we will also release our follow up film with Soke where we explore to seek a deeper understanding of the foundations and development of Chito Ryu.

13.01.2022 When you look for a karate dojo for either yourself or your children, make sure that they have the right instructors, with international credibilty, a professional space to develop, and all of values that makes Karate training so good for your mind, spirt, and body.

11.01.2022 Dear Students & Parents, just to remind you that our Dojo will reopen on Monday 19th April. We look forward to seeing you back for training.

10.01.2022 Happy hump day! Hopefully not too many Wednesdays left before we get back to kumite Wednesdays.

07.01.2022 Congratulations to Sensei Shane Ker on his promotion to 4th Degree Black Belt (Yondan) and to Senpai Christine Garberg on her promotion to 1st Degree (Shodan). ... Yondan is a very significant rank and Shane’s promotion reflects a life long dedication to Karate Do, and is an indication of the depth at the Tasseikan Dojo. He has also attained to his father’s rank Sensei William (Bill) Ker, who was my first teacher in Chito-Ryu in the 1980s. For all who know Sensei Bill, he is well into his 80s and still training, a fine example of the art he loves. Well done Shane and Christine, I know you both put in a tremendous effort especially in the lead up to the grading. Dojo members and I are very proud of you both. Michael J Noonan Kiyoshi

03.01.2022 Today we hit 400 STUDENTS. I posted this on my personal FB page. This is a tribute to everyone at the Tasseikan. Your hard work, willingness to embrace real Ka...rate-Do, dedication to training, friendship, and training spirit has made this a very special place. We must value and be grateful for what we have. A MILESTONE - 400 Karate Students at Tasseikan The Karate Institute Peakhurst. I’ve now taught over 6,000 classes at this Dojo. I’d only be guessing but we must be one of the largest Karate only schools in the country. 11 years ago I opened the doors with the intention of teaching AUTHENTIC traditional Karate in the face of the razzmatazz of so many fake MacDojos that surrounded me. No gym, no MMA, no BJJ, no Kickboxing; no fake grades and no BS; only what I knew I was an expert at. Despite the detractors we’ve proved that Karate, real hard core Karate is still alive and thriving. Word of mouth is now so powerful that we will soon be wait-listing students. I’ve never promised fun, never prostituted Budo, I tell everyone that comes through the door how hard (and rewarding) the journey is. I ONLY take members that sign for a minimum of 1 year, because what’s the point of training less than that. I give 100% to every class I teach, no matter how tired I am or what kind of a day I’ve had. I know I owe that to my students. I’ve taught in Japan, Scotland, Ireland, Canada and USA. I’m grateful for my wife Miwako’s support, our Admin Manager Mrs Blair (Ratna), the senior students and black belts that assist; and all the amazing students of all ages, that put in, work hard, add value and help at every turn. I owe a great debt to my teacher the present Soke of Chito Ryu, Tsuyoshi Chitose for his care, time, understanding and teaching. Also to my first teacher in Australia Sensei Bill Ker, I would not be here without him; Sensei Charlie Kudlic, who encouraged me to travel to Japan; and to my dear departed friend and mentor Sensei Steve Davison. All who know me, know my first passion is my own Karate training. I personally train at least 5 days per week. I believe this is a must for all Senseis, lead by example. Thank you if you’ve read this far and allowed me to share some of my joy with you. PS I need to mention Sensei Fari Salievski who gave me a lot of time and advice before we opened. His input was very valuable, we still use many of the systems he told us to implement.

02.01.2022 Ask Your Question Soke Chitose interview part 2, son of Dr Chitose (1898-1984), one of the original Okinawan Karate Masters that brought Karate to mainland Japan. We will be shooting another interview this year and are now taking suggestions for questions that serious Karate-ka would like to ask. ... No guarantee on whether or not your question makes it, we will strive to produce an insightful interview. The best way would be to Message us. You could also put them in the comments section if you wanted feedback from others (but please make sure you Message us as well).
