25.01.2022 A special treat for all the Cobra Kai fans - does this look familiar?

25.01.2022 New technique tonight. Following a gyakuzuki straight through. Week 1.

24.01.2022 Lara and Brienna - our newest yellow belts, Ayumi and Aiden are our latest happy graders! Congratulations everyone.

24.01.2022 Special guest instructor Sensei Robert Janceski from The Karate Institute Rockdale & Bexley taking the teens and adults class and teaching some self defence moves today with Sensei Noonan.

21.01.2022 Karate kids learning how to do a knuckle push up. Refining this seemingly impossible task at the start for the white belts is a bit of a how-on-earth-and-ouch! But looking at the more senior belts gave them some hope and encouragement (Ps it doesn’t really stop hurting but you learn to work with that and push through). That it is achievable if you work hard and just push through that mental barrier. Good stead for living life! Kids that were challenging for grading later that same day were led through an intensive grading prep by Senpais Steve, Ray and Mya.

21.01.2022 Congratulations to Sensei Shane Ker on his promotion to 4th Degree Black Belt (Yondan) and to Senpai Christine Garberg on her promotion to 1st Degree (Shodan). Yondan is a very significant rank and Shane’s promotion reflects a life long dedication to Karate Do, and is an indication of the depth at the Tasseikan Dojo. He has also attained to his father’s rank Sensei William (Bill) Ker, who was my first teacher in Chito-Ryu in the 1980s. For all who know Sensei Bill, he is wel...l into his 80s and still training, a fine example of the art he loves. Well done Shane and Christine, I know you both put in a tremendous effort especially in the lead up to the grading. Dojo members and I are very proud of you both. Michael J Noonan Kiyoshi

19.01.2022 A massive turnout for grading today. Tremendous spirit shown by the challengers. Like Sensei says, you need to train hard and prepare for your grading. And sometimes that isn’t enough. For today. You may not be there yet but an unsuccessful grading will push you to do better and equipped with tips and pointers, you will come back and try again at the next one. As some of the graders today have shown, they have gone away and thought about what they had needed to work on. They have put effort in which is clear from their technique improvement and have come back today to challenge for the new belt. Successfully. As Sensei always say, you may not be able to do this. Yet. But if you persevere and work hard, you will.

19.01.2022 More gyakuzuki work tonight at kumite. This week the drills taught distance. How to gauge distance. When to strike. Getting better each week.

18.01.2022 Last bo class of 2020! No one got hurt in the process. Happy days!

17.01.2022 Sensei refining the basics with the kk’s whilst Senpais Steve, Ray, Christine and Mya worked with the kids that will be challenging for grading this week, going through the ins and outs of what is expected of them, particularly for the 8 white belts - who are mostly Little Dragons graduates) who are up for their first foray into grading. Always be prepared!

16.01.2022 The last grading and last session of 2020 Good luck challengers!

16.01.2022 With hard work comes the rewards. Some of these karate kids have unsuccessfully graded previously and have come back to try again. This time with success. Congratulations on your successful grading - Aaden, Oisin, Anson, Maddie, Emily, Melanie and Kate. Great to see the progression of the kk’s and a shout out to Kate who has attained 5th kyu (purple WS), joining her brother Jack. Watch out world! Karate kids coming through!!

15.01.2022 Last Monday training of 2020 requires a group shot. (But of course!) Great intensity of basics then kata up to Tenshin and some throw work in for good measure. 100 mins well spent!

15.01.2022 Wednesday kumite session this week focused on speed drills

15.01.2022 Congratulations on your grading success Yusif, Victoria and Imogen!

15.01.2022 New signage for the Dojo. Thank you Fuzio Miyazaki Sensei for the caricature . Also a word of warning for the public BEWARE OF FAKES. I never thought we’d have to warn people about fake Karate, sad state of affairs. Thank you to Max’s Dad David for doing such a great installation job.

14.01.2022 Self defence with Sensei Robert Janceski and Sensei Michael Noonan

14.01.2022 Kumite fun continues. What a great bunch of kids! (And that includes Tony!) Till next year!

12.01.2022 A killer finisher after kumite drills tonight. Kids worked hard!

12.01.2022 The dojo will be closed for the holiday break from Friday 18 Dec 20. This means that the last training day will be Thursday 17 Dec 20 which is also the grading for 2020. And what a year this has been. The dojo will reopen on a school holiday schedule from Monday 23 Jan 21 (Mon-Wed-Sat). Times are different so please check. There will also be senior training Sunday 17 Jan 21. More details will be published in coming weeks. The dojo will open for regular classes after Austr...alia Day on Wed 27 Jan 21. Have a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year!

12.01.2022 Kata work tonight. Basic drills then working up to your grading kata. Here are the seniors with shiho wati

12.01.2022 Last adult class for 2020! 100 mins of fun. Who misses it already? (Not in the photo: Sensei Shane and Mary Beth who had to leave early)

11.01.2022 Great session with Senpai Steve teaching the white belts, Senpai Ray with yellow and orange belts and Senpai Christine with the senior belts.

09.01.2022 Last family session for the year. Getting into a good groove with a good solid team forming and a packed class! Getting ready for the festive season with a warm up of 50 burpees (though the first 15 didn’t count cos we didn’t count out loud ), 110 sit-ups, some good ol’ fashion wheel barrowing with knuckles for added fun and then onto the technical part. Today’s focus was on stance from seizan dachi to shiko dachi and a takedown thrown in for good measure - a prep for Henchuho #10

09.01.2022 Who said henchuho can’t be fun?

09.01.2022 Kumite training is not just about learning to spar or improving your cardio fitness. Getting your mindset right, good sportsmanship and manners are all part of the journey to becoming a good kumite fighter. Here, Sensei relays his own personal experience to provide some insight to these young aspiring fighters. On how to maintain your composure, how to go into a spar with a steady mind and a calm heart. That not every clean contact (in your mind) is awarded an ippon during a fight and that is ok. That becoming a good fighter is about accepting the wins as much as the losses and exhibiting great sportsmanship and accepting the judges’ calls. To learn from the defeats and to grow from it to become better.

07.01.2022 More happy congratulations to Ross, Christos, Jenn and Jackie. Love that smile Jenn! Another brown belt in the ranks with Ross attaining 2nd Kyu.

05.01.2022 More Gyakuzuki extension work in the family class today.

03.01.2022 A personal word from Kyoshi Noonan. I’m feeling grateful! I received this amazing bottle of Scotch Whiskey and a great bottle of Aussie wine, Penfold’s RWT 2012, from my Tasseikan Dojo Family tonight. My wife received a beautiful teapot, cup and T2 tea. Their only mistake was to present it after training. If they had of presented it before class started I might have taken it easy on them tonight (probably not ). It was a killer HARD Teen/Adult class to finish of the year. Two more days to go and then a break from teaching.

01.01.2022 Throwback to this time last year for Soke Week. Some of the next gen of chitoryu.
