23.01.2022 HEALTHY (DAIRY FREE) PROTEIN SMOOTHIE!? Who said healthy eating has to taste bad?! Not sure how I would describe this flavor, but its great!... Maybe a Vanilla Coconut pina colada fruit smoothie? This smoothie is a great addition to my daily eggs and bacon for breakfast, and a great option for a fast breakfast if youre in a hurry! As someone who struggles with IBS and is lactose sensitive, this smoothie is a great way to help me hit my nutritional goals without any stomach upset! 21.01.2022 DO YOU AVOID COMPOUND LIFTS? Dont make the mistake of avoiding compound lifts because they are intimidating or too hard. Compound lifts are an excellent way to build strength, muscle mass, and lose fat! ... Compound lifts are a fantastic way to work out many muscle simultaneously, and allow us to create much more mechanical tension then isolation exercises. This will not only allow you to train multiple muscles at once while creating greater mechanical tension, it can also be more beneficial for fat loss as the combined effort required from multiple different muscles all at once will require your body to burn an even greater amount of energy for the movement! These lifts should be incorporated into any good training routine, and are an excellent option for anyone who wants serious results but has limited time. 21.01.2022 NOT ENOUGH TIME! This was one of my favorite excuses back in the day. Ill admit, sometimes I slip up and still use this excuse from time to time, Im not perfect.... The truth? "I dont have enough time" is just another way of saying "that sounds too hard" when we dont want to admit it. Using this excuse is an easy habit to fall into, and a sure way to prevent us from succeeding at the things we may really want or need to achieve! We all have the same 24 hours available to us each day, so how is it that some people have the time while others dont? The key is to stop wasting time on things that arent moving you closer to your goals, and start making time for things that will bring you long term benefits! Something that I had to learn to do was prioritise things that would move me closer to my goals, and do them before a time wasting task like sitting down to watch Netflix or play computer games only to later realised Ive mysteriously lost 4 hours! The solution then? Plan a time when you will do something to get you closer to your goals, make sure its before you do something youre likely to get sucked into, and then stick to that time! 20.01.2022 I DONT KNOW WHY I CANT LOSE WEIGHT! I hear this all the time, and Ive used it more times than I want to admit. I remember being over 140kg and wanting to lose weight while not being willing to give up the foods I knew I shouldnt be eating in such high volumes. So what did I do? What any food lover would do, go and work my butt off in the gym hoping that would allow me to lose weight without having to give up the unhealthy foods I loved. What happened? Nothing... ...Theres a saying in fitness that clearly explains why nothing happened - "you cant out-train a bad diet" and its true! In life we always have a choice, and today the choice is simple, do you want that bigmac, or a sixpack? I tried out-training a bad diet and didnt get anywhere. If youve done the same then consider this - if you want something in life that youve never had before, you have to be willing to do something youve never done. A healthy diet is not about cutting out all unhealthy foods, its about balance. A simple rule to follow is 80% healthy whole foods, and 20% "unhealthy" foods. 14.01.2022 Baby steps! When it comes to nutrition, I often see people with the best of intentions taking extreme steps! This often leads to people failing to stick it out long enough to see the results they are after. Of course, counting calories and perfectly calculated meal plans will get you results, but if you havent yet developed enough self control and a solid routine, then counting calories and following a meal plan will likely lead to frustration.... I believe the best thing you can do when starting your fat loss journey is to start small, and take baby steps. Focus on one small habit at a time! This means that you wont have to use all of your willpower at once trying to stick to a meal plan thats a shock to your regular routine, and could lead to feelings of frustration and discouragement when your best of intentions lead to feelings of overwhelm, and you burn out from taking on too much. An example of a baby step could be to simply reduce your sugar intake. Cutting out full sugar drinks and switching to a low sugar or diet option to start with, then once youve adapted to this new habbit, moving on to water. Depending on how many sugary drinks you consume in any given day, this one step could see you reduce your daily calories enough that you start to see results without counting any calories or following a meal plan! 10.01.2022 TRANSFORMATION TUESDAY! I remember the struggle of finding a size 46 pair of pants when I was over 140kg, as most shops seem to max out at a size 44 Every shopping experience was a painful reminder that I was extremely overweight.... I remember looking at the pictures of the fit guys in the shops posters and ads and wondering if they where even real, and imagining how it would feel to go through life looking the way they do. I had no idea that all I had to do was commit to change, and I could one day be fit like them! Its funny, the first thing I remember when I began loosing weight was no longer being able to rest my dinner plate or glass of coke on my belly when I was sitting and watching TV haha If you ask me though, Id say that abs are a good trade off for a portable TV dinner table haha Never loose sight of your goals, dream big, and youll be surprised at what you can achieve! 05.01.2022 CHEAT DAY! Its a saturday, and if youre like me that means cheat day! Heres the problem, a cheat day can throw out an entire weeks worth of hard work!... How? If youre eating in a caloric deficit 6 days of the week, and on day 7 youre lets say, in a 1000 calorie deficit as a result of all your hard work, you can easily destroy your whole weeks work by consuming over 1000 calories in A single cheat day! This will throw you into a caloric surplus for the week meaning weight gain.... I mean, I can easily consume over 1000 calories in a single cheat meal! Why am I bringing this up? Most people use a cheat meal as an excuse to fill up on crap as a "reward" for their hard work during the week. Its a short cut to failure if you ask me. Lets get one thing straight, cheat day isnt a thing if you generally want to lose weight. A cheat MEAL as a reward is fine, but thats not an invitation to go eat an entire large pizza, half a cheesecake with a chocolate thick shake to wash it all down... Make good choices during your cheat meals, and dont lie to yourself while stuffing your face with hamburgers and ice cream trying to convince yourself its ok. 03.01.2022 Do your wrists hurt on the bench press? Wrist pain on the bench press is pretty common. My right wrist always used to hurt after a set! A common cause is poor wrist alignment during the bench press. If you hold the bar too high in the palm of your hand when you press, your wrist will tend to bend backwards causing excessive stress and pressure build up in the joint.... Not only does this reduce your ability to execute a bench press and move as much weight as you maybe could, its putting your wrists at serious risk of injury! An easy fix is to line the bar up on the bottom of your palm, just above your wrist while keeping your wrist in a neutral position. This should keep the bar above your wrist joint and eliminate excessive bending. Correctly aligning your grip will not only reduce pain and risk of injury, it will also allow you to execute an even stronger bench press!
