18.01.2022 ITS ALL ABOUT SELF PROMOTION! Self-promotion comes in many forms and you can use different tactics to get your name out there. Look at politicians! Donald Trump is a classic. As business owners, we are all self-promoters. Credible self-promotion is done with dignity, class, and the knowledge to back it up. This increases business. Without credibility, you will lose business.... Natural self-promoters have three traits; 1. Firstly, it is the position. Position around people who can make a difference in your life and do this frequently. Ask yourself daily, Who can help meet my goals? and consider, are you remembered when you leave the room? Reach outside of your comfort zone to expand your new connections. 2. What is your style? How do you differentiate from your competitors? and what makes you memorable. Their personality and temperament isn’t matched to the role. Often the business owner has not clearly defined what is expected of them, and their role is unclear. Furthermore, many are disempowered in their position with no effective control or ownership of what they do. ... Shift the paradigm. Assess the talents of your people, or employ the right characteristics to the role that needs doing. Empower and, measure their performance, but give them ownershipthis delegation will set you free. Have everyone aware in the organization of the roles played and their interaction and dependence on each other. Change the language! Use the word ‘team’, change problems to ‘speedbumps’, and when a bottleneck arises get them team to focus on its correction and immediate improvement. Getting people and roles right can build a great culture where employees enjoy what they do, work for each other and ‘step up’ versus just ‘turning up’. Have a system to do this as it provides a standard, structure, certainty, and allows replication and scaling. Documenting and measure your process, systems, Quality Control, Scope of Works, Organization chart, training systems. 2. Customer Relations Have good communication and feedback with customers. Nurture ...them. Follow up and report to customers where appropriate. What upsell, cross-sell, and down-sell can you offer. Repeat business = profit. Retention is cheaper than new client acquisition. 3. Financial Management Money is made in business through Sales, Marketing, and cost control. The rest is cost-based. Know your costs, break-even points, and margins and what revenue is needed to meet and exceed these measures. Consider your billable and non-billable staff. Know your overhead, tax, insurance, and HR costs. Reconcile weekly to avoid nasty shocks at months end. Watch your outstanding invoices and, encourage early payment.
