15.01.2022 On this day, in 1964, a small group of mothers got together in a Melbourne lounge room and formed NMA to support breastfeeding mothers, and educate the communit...y about the importance of breastfeeding. NMA became NMAA and then ABA. 57 years later, we're still here, still supporting breastfeeding families, still educating the community. Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who have taken Helpline calls, run group meetings and Breastfeeding Education Classes, spoken to school groups, health care providers and politicians, answered questions on Live Chat and email, and our Facebook group. It's e...asier to assume they are somehow less meaningful and therefore less important. We need a societal reshape, because this is not the case. If the foundations for lifelong emotional well-being and mental health are laid in infancy (conception to two) there needs to be a global discussion happening about this topic. Not just in the UK. The voice of the infant needs to be recognised as being of equal validity and importance to that of older children, young people and adults. The voice of the infant needs interpreting.
