23.01.2022 Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year from Neil, Kathryn, Ramtin and Dilir. Thank you for all the support in 2020, but we have never been so relieved to see that clock tick over at midnight. Here's to a healthy and happy year ahead, stay safe and look after each other xx
23.01.2022 A staggering 90% of people needing a stem cell or bone marrow transplant rely on donors who live overseas purely because we don't have enough people registered on the Australian donor registry. Covid-19 has dramatically impacted getting the life saving stem cells into Australia, highlighting the reason why we need more young people in Australia to sign up to become potential donors. To sign up go to https://tlr.strengthtogive.org.au/ Great story by Australia's ABC: https://www.abc.net.au//covid-19-border-closure-f/12688108
22.01.2022 We really didn't think this year's City2Surf was going to happen because of Covid, but to keep everyone safe, the organisers have made the event virtual! You sign up, download the app, and on Sunday 18th October you walk, run or crawl the 14 kms, but you start from where ever you want, and when ever you want. GENIUS! https://www.registernow.com.au/secure/GroupAcceptance.aspx Of course we are sad we can't be together at the end, but we are grateful we can still participate an...d raise some money for the Nursing Scholarship. We know this year has been a shocker! From bushfires to a global pandemic... people have lost their lives, their homes and their jobs so we are mindful that raising money in this climate can be tough, but for Cancer & Haematology nurses, it's worth the ask, so please join if you can, every dollar will help. #tlr
22.01.2022 Today marks 5 years since Trace took his final breath, surrounded by his sister, partner and life long friend, and also by a whole bunch of the nurses who cared for him so lovingly in his last few months. His love, respect and appreciation for those nurses melted all our hearts and was the inspiration for us creating The TLR Foundation. One of those nurses, Alexis had just enrolled in a graduate program at St. Vincent's and was placed on the haematology oncology ward. Trace w...as one of her first patients. She immediately got to see some of the worst complications from a stem cell transplant, but undoubtedly some of the best of humanity and gratitude from a patient and his carers. Alexis has now dedicated her professional life to caring for patients just like Trace. We are incredibly proud on this day especially, to announce that TLR has awarded Alexis The Trace Richey Nursing Scholarship. She has just started her Master of Cancer & Haematology Nursing at the University of Sydney while continuing to work full time and raising a family. To all of our nurses, the last few weeks have shown us more than ever before how important your role is and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all you do each and every day. Trace would be so proud his legacy continues to help so many people in such a meaningful way. Love ewes xx
19.01.2022 The coronavirus pandemic has left many of us scared and feeling helpless, but the travel restrictions are having massive consequences for those with blood cancers needing stem cell donors. A staggering 90%, that's NINETY percent of donated stem cells needed to save a life of people in Australia come from overseas. There are just not enough people on the Australian registry and we need your help to change that. If you are aged 18-30 YOU could be the one to save a life. Donati...ng stem cells isn't scary like many people think. All it takes is a few hours of your time. But you have to be registered so please sign up today by clicking on the link https://tlr.strengthtogive.org.au/ #tlr #strengthtogive
18.01.2022 Very happy Covid restrictions have been lifted here in Oz so we could spend the day with the latest group of PhD scientists, researching into the cause, treatment and cure of Graft vs Host disease (GvHD) here at the University of Wollongong. We are so grateful for their interest as finding a cure for this disease. Massive shout out to the Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute for its investment into researching a cause that’s so close to our hearts. #TLR
17.01.2022 Today is International Nurses Day and we want to send out our love and gratitude for everything they do. We've always appreciated nurses, but now the world needs their care, their help, their support more than ever before. They are simply outstanding people and we thank them all from the bottom of our hearts xx
17.01.2022 This is why we do what we do... Please ask your mates to sign up https://tlr.strengthtogive.org.au/
16.01.2022 Amazing weekend for us... TLR was invited to be the client for student group 180 Degree Consulting's annual 'Social Impact Case Competition'. Who better to help us encourage students to join the Australian Bone Marrow Donor Registry than a group of actual students. This year was hosted at management consultants Nous Group where 5 of their consultants gave up their weekend to mentor the 11 groups of USyd and UNSW students. The top three finalists were given 10 minutes to prese...nt to a panel of Nous consultants and TLR directors who judged the overall winner, the prize being a fast track to the final interview of the Nous Internship program. Amazing! I know the students learned so much from the experience of real world consulting, but I can assure you that Neil and all at TLR learned way more in ideas that will help shape our plans in the coming years! Huge thank you to 180DC for inviting us, to the Nous consultants for giving up their weekend, and of course a massive thank you to the students. Special shout out to the students and Nous consultants who signed up after being shown just how easy it is to donate stem cells. Thank you all! #tlr #tlrfoundation #strength2give #180dc_usyd
14.01.2022 A HUGE shout-out to our 2020 fundraisers - St Vincent's Transplant Coordinator Annabel Horne and son Robbie, and TLR Directors Kathryn and Neil for completing the 2020 City2Surf team and raising funds to make The Trace Richey Nursing Scholarship perpetual and support nurses like Alexis and many more for years to come. With a ban on crowds and social distancing rules in place, this year's City2Surf turned virtual, meaning we chose our own route and started when we wanted, but ...we sure did miss the buzz of the crowds and now optimistically have our sights set on August 2021. Covid-19 has dramatically changed the world, and coming on the heels of historic bushfires and record floods, 2020 has been the most challenging of any years to raise money, so we are even more grateful to the generosity of our supporters who have made us $3,500 closer to our target. Thank you to EVERYONE for your ongoing support, roll on 2021! https://www.givenow.com.au/crowdrais//virtualcity2surf2020
13.01.2022 Today's the big day - GIVING TUESDAY, a day of giving that encourages everyone around the world to give back to their favourite charities and causes. We have chosen this special day to give this ridiculously large cheque for $100,000 to Professor Donna Waters, Dean of the Nursing School at University of Sydney, towards The Trace Richey Nursing Scholarship. This money has been raised by YOU, our amazing fundraisers and donors! The scholarship will see nurses graduating with a ...Master of Cancer & Haematology Nursing. We only need another $60,000 to ensure the scholarship is perpetual, helping nurses for decades to come. One more City2Surf should do the trick so please put 9 August 2020 in your diaries. If this inspires you to give, we need your help to recruit the next generation of stem cell and bone marrow donors to join the Australian Bone Marrow Donor Registry. People aged 18 - 30 make the best donors, and it costs $100 to get every person tested and registered. Please consider donating $100 at www.givenow.com.au/tlr knowing your donation could help save the life of someone with blood cancer. Your support is vital and we are beyond grateful, today and every day! #tlr #tlrfoundation #GivingTuesday #GivingTuesdayAus
12.01.2022 Sadly our plans of having the biggest party on Bondi Beach this year to celebrate us reaching our goal of making the TLR Nursing Scholarship perpetual have totally gone to pot! Thanks Covid-19! We are, however, both impressed and inspired by how the world is adapting, and this extends to this year's 50th anniversary of the City2Surf. Start from WHERE you want, start WHEN you want and celebrate with a glass or two in the comfort your own home. Sure, it's not anywhere close to... what we had planned but hey, you still have to cover 14 kms (the City2Surf app will keep an eye on you), we all still get a medal (just in the post), and boy do I need to lose a few of these Covid-kilos, so there are some positives! Click on the link if you can join and help us raise a few extra dollars for the nurses. https://www.registernow.com.au/secure/GroupAcceptance.aspx
08.01.2022 It warms our hearts to see this outstanding show of leadership from our friends across the pacific. The Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau is calling out to his nation to help find a compatible stem cell donor for a 3-month-old baby boy, Boston, highlighting and the need for increased diversity on Stem Cell Registries everywhere. This equally true in Australia , and why The TLR Foundation is now focused on recruiting the next generation of stem cell donors, specifically those in the 18-30 age group. It's not difficult to save a life, and you may be the only person on the planet who can help, but you need to be signed up with the Australian Bone Marrow Donor Registry so we can find you. Signing up online is so simple, just click the link here https://tlr.strengthtogive.org.au/ Thank you xx #tlr #strengthtogive

05.01.2022 People in the LGBTQIA+ community CAN join the Australian registry and donate their blood stem cells. All it takes to register is a simple cheek swab which will be sent to you in the mail. You just need to be healthy and between 18-35. This is our chance to RISE and help save the life of someone with blood cancer. Go to https://tlr.strengthtogive.org.au/ to sign up today, and please share with your LGBTQIA+ friends and family. This year Sydney's Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is... celebrating 43 years of activism and diversity which has made Mardi Gras the joyous celebration it is today. Have a very safe, fun, and Happy Mardi Gras #mardigras #mardigras2021 #tlr #tlrfoundation #ozmarrow #strengthtogive #stemcelldonor #bonemarrowdonor #lgbti #pride #equality #cancersucks #givingback
05.01.2022 What a gorgeous way to share the love on Valentine’s Day... thanks so much to the wonderful guys at Bistro Papillon for choosing to help TLR. They design pins to sell at their restaurant to give back. Our favourite is ‘Be Sexy, Drink Wine’ for obvious reasons. Thank you so much guys, your donation will help us find the next generation of stem cell donors, and will give a little bit of hope back to those who need it. I can’t find the French translation of Love ewes, so Je t’aime xx
05.01.2022 A HUGE should out to the Strength to Give campaign who reached their goal of recruiting 5,000 people using cheek swabs WOO HOO! But with this great news comes some bad news... the pilot program is over and cheek swabs will no longer be used as a quick and convenient way of joining the registry. That is unless we can get the government to change its funding allocation and for that, we need your help. Our charity partner 'Australian Marrow Match' has created a change.org petit...ion to do just this, so please spare a few minutes to add your name to the growing list, and share far and wide so we can make becoming a stem cell donor easy! #tlr #strengthtogive #swabgoals
03.01.2022 Thank you to all the wonderful people who have signed up to be potential stem cell and bone marrow donors... today on World Marrow Donor Day we thank you from the bottom of our hearts xx
03.01.2022 Massive thank you to the folks at the annual HealthEd conference. TLR had our first official stand to share our message with the 1,700 GPs and other health professionals, and ask for their help to find the next generation of stem cell donors. We were lucky enough to have three wonderful nurses join us to answer all the curly questions that came our way! Feeling the love xx #tlr #strengthtogive
02.01.2022 WOW, this is last year's City2Surf fundraising team, shoulder to shoulder on Bondi Beach, laughing and cheering and enjoying the time together in the TLR marquee... what a difference a year makes! Today would have been the 2020 City2Surf but thanks to a little virus called Covid-19 it's going to be a long time until we can do this again. Last year there were 80,000 people all making their way along the 14 km route to Bond Beach to raise money for the Trace Richey Nursing Scho...larship. This year there is no WAY we will be putting any of our fundraisers at risk, not least because we have been lucky enough to have doctors and nurses in the team who continue to care for those in need, but also because we can now only fit 12 people in the marquee at the end at any one time, and we all know it's all about the marquee at the end! The City2Surf has now turned into a virtual run to be held on 18 October where you are able to run 14 kms by yourself, over days not hours, safely and away from strangers so please watch this space as we still have $60,000 to raise and then the scholarship will help nurses forever! To leave on a positive, today is also the first day in the last 10 years that it's absolutely CHUCKING it down, with two low-pressure systems coming in one after another and flooding predicted. We hope you are just as happy as we are that you are not trying to run up Heartbreak Hill in this shitty weather! Every cloud and all that... pun totally intended.
01.01.2022 Last night the ABC aired this story on why we need more people in the 18-30 age group to sign up to be stem cell donors. If anyone 18-30 wants to give the BEST Christmas present, please tell them to go to https://tlr.strengthtogive.org.au and sign online, cheek swab kits will be sent in the post and they could very well end up saving someone's life xx #tlr #strength2give #swab2save
