Pumpkin and chard fritters (yesterdays lunch) and sweet potato chips and roasted spiced chickpeas (from last nights dinner - see second photo with cauliflower steak on bed of rocket- wow that was a good dinner!) I slept really late this morning, only up in time for lunch. Its probably a good thing as Im healing from surgery to remove a skin cancer on my leg. Everything is fine. I have the all-clear now. Let thi...s be a reminder to you to get your regular skin checks. Mine was a spot first identified for monitoring only 3 months ago. I got the biopsy result (SCC) on Monday (it took 5 days ), had the excision Tuesday and they called me with the good news Thursday. Thats great service! 12.01.2022 Another stick insect crossed my path as I was gardening today. It’s much more modest than the giant lady of my 30 January post. This one is only the length of my outstretched hand from tip of thumb to tip of little finger. And it’s plain yellow all over. I relocated it into our weeping eucalyptus nearby as that is where it appears to be best camouflaged. I wasn’t sure I’d get any photos but fortunately my keen eye found it again after I’d gone inside for the phone. But I coul...dn’t get a picture with my hand in it to show you the size, because this stick was quite timid and didn’t like me getting close. I respect that. Seeing these two quite different stick insects just a couple of weeks apart sends my mind into imagining how there must be many in my garden which I’ll never spy. I’m grateful they’ve chosen my garden for their natural habitat. Sunrise Lime is a cultivar in the Citrus Gems range; it is a cross between the finger lime and the calamondin, developed by the CSIRO. ( If ever they can be open for eat-in again. ) I blended the whites of two eggs, one yolk and a huge handful of leaves from our rainbow chard. Then just fried as normal with the remaining yolk. Put quality bacon strips with spring onions on the side. Pretty radicchio on the plate first, and also served with a sprinkle of pretty salad for garnish. Voila.
