24.01.2022 Tip 9: Trust your unique self. What I mean by this is no matter the circumstance (Christmas time) ‘walk to the beat of your own drum’. Throughout the Christmas period and after a long year, it’s easy to get swept up in the constant invitations to celebrate and with this overindulge in both food and drink.... A little overindulging here and there is balance, but be familiar where your threshold is to compromising your well-being is. Is this the blues from drinking too much, too often? Or is it from eating reactive highly processed foods, do you feel bloated and lethargic? Remember the steps you took this year to look after yourself- maybe you took the time to get your gut health on track, or maybe your stopped cutting out food groups and started to eat with intention...whatever you did you actively fought to have greater wellness. Remember you, when the plans to drink a bit too much this Christmas and how you may feel as a consequence... it is ok to say no, turn friends and loved ones down, reject others projections of what they feel or think you should do. Trust yourself, start on the front foot this new year, with a healthy outlook. #nutritionist #healthandwellness #nutrition #beyouruniqueself #wellness #wellbeing #wellbeingwarrior #christmasnutrition #healthy2019 #healthylifestyle #healthyeating #healthygifts #youdoyou
23.01.2022 Tip 8: Breathe We normally mean ‘food’ when we talk about diet and nutrition, however oxygen is easily the most important nutrient we consume. We need oxygen every second of every day for our whole life. Ultimately breathing is the way oxygen is delivered to all cells in the body.... When we are exposed to poor quality air this starves the muscles of oxygen. Are you running around in the lead up to Christmas? Do you feel your breath fast and quick at the top of your chest? Or are your heavily breathing through your mouth trying to fill up on the most oxygen possible? Unfortunately this heavy breathing is not the most effective way to get the value nutrient...slow nasal diaphragmatic breathing delivers far more oxygen. This kind of breathing fills every part of your lungs including the lower parts. If you need a little time out to catch your breath this Christmas, find a quiet space, Check our some breathing basics on YouTube and get stuck into delivering lung fulls of this essential nutrient . #christmasnutrition #nutritionist #healthandwellness #nutrition #nutrients #breatheinbreatheout #breathe #healthylifestyle #livewell #lifelongwellness #lifelongwellbeing
14.01.2022 Hello everyone! . It has been a very long time between posts. The start of this year brought some personal tragedy and sadness that knocked the wind out of me and loved ones- it is something also that I haven’t shared with most people. .... That being said it can possibly be turned around in the future to help others. . So what is happening? My Saturday clinic is resuming from the 9th of March (next weekend). So if you have started the year well or you have reverted back to homeostasis...or your feeling like you need some direction and support with your nutrition I am here ready and excited to help . . Also I have started a Masters degree in Diagnostic Genomics - what’s this you ask? Well being honest at the moment it feels like a foreign language. This is focusing on the structure, function, mapping, evolution and editing of genomes- a genome being an organism’s complete set of DNA and all genes. . My main focus being nutrigenomics and culinary genomics. How our food intake/nutrients affect of DNA/genes. . Overall I have a keen desire to know more and to increase my efficacy in practice as a Clinical Nutritionist. . I’m pretty hungry for knowledge....haha #nutrition #nutritionist #hungryforknowledge #mastershereicome #nutragenomics #ilovedna #healthyfood #healthylifestyle #resilience #notgivingin #heartopen #keepgoing #keeplearning #keepgrowing #foreignlanguage #genome #diagnosticgenomics
08.01.2022 Tip 10: Add more functional foods. Functional foods have specific compounds that have been shown to prevent and reduce disease, foods like fruits and vegetables. These compounds are called phytonutrients and include betacarotene, lycopene, anthocyanins, lutein, isothiocynate, zeaxanthin & allicin.... Red fruits (Tomatoes, pink grapefruits, watermelon, guavas) -contains lycopene which studies have shown is helpful in reduction of prostate, lung and stomach cancer. Red & purple fruits + drinks based on them. (Grapes, red wine, strawberries, cherries, blueberries). -contain anthocyanin which is linked to reducing blood pressure and reducing the risk of heart attacks. Yellow fruits & veges (Citrus, peaches, papayas, nectarines). -contain beta-crytothanxin which is supportive to eye sight and immune function. As you can see this is just the ‘tip of the iceberg’ in terms of the amount of functional foods. With Christmas around the corner and the summer weather in toe, add in some of these delicious functional foods to your Christmas spread and reap the health benefits . #nutritionist #healthandwellness #wellbeing #wellbeingwarrior #healthygifts #christmasnutrition #healthyfood #healthylifestyle #functionalfoods #nutrients #wellness
05.01.2022 Tip 12: Reflect Chances are you’ve worked really hard this year, you’ve struggled but had some really sweet wins also. Now is a really great time to reflect upon 2018 and to get ready for the new year with some realistic goals and even a vision board.... If you have plans to give yourself a nutritional overhaul in New Year, seek the support of a professional/s that really cares about your wellbeing and sees you, not you as a pathology. Also avoid fads like they are an infectious disease invading your precious space, remove the series of gym selfies/ ‘gelfies’ off your feed, pictures of weighing scales ‘proclaiming they don’t matter. Spend your time in your reality and find out what you need and what brings you joy. At the end of the day you will not be remembered by you body composition. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and Healthy Happy New Year ! 04.01.2022 Tip 11: Share a meal with friends and family. On Tuesday (Christmas) millions of family dining rooms, kitchens, restaurant and picnic tables are welcoming family and friends of all ages as they join to celebrate Christmas . Along with thoughtful and delicious meals, there are great health benefits that just gathering together as family and friends around a dining table provides- that tank right up there with nutritious foods. ... When we typically think about the health benefits of eating, we usually think along the lines of: should I eat that or not? Nutritional value, salt or sugar content and how much we should eat. The prospect of the eating experience being delicious and enjoyable gathered around a dining room table is agreed on by experts as having ‘far reaching physical & mental health benefits for everyone’. At the table we share stories, learn from each other’s experience, support each other and build upon relationships. We will all have our differences, at the same time we have the opportunity to grow and learn from one another. Concentrate less on restriction or ‘should have’ ‘should not’ and instead make a commitment to dine around the table with those you love, it is commitment to your overall wellbeing .
