Main Street - down laneway next to 3 Little Pigs Restaurant. Hours: Mon-Fri 9.30 - 4pm Sat 9.30 - 1pm. Lots to choose from from latest fiction to non-fiction, a few new books relating to the environment...many children's books as well. Almost time to think about Christmas presents or holiday reading. Why not pop in to see what you can find. Thanks to all our supporters especially to those who have kindly donated their books to the Piccabeen.

25.01.2022 A taste of what Tamborine Mountain Landcarers get up to - a brief video by Ryan Gittoes and editing master Keegan Jones - showcasing some of our work here on Tamborine Mountain.

24.01.2022 Check out this beauty sunning itself at Holt Park. This is why we spend time and money on regeneration projects. A few years ago this little section of Cedar Creek was basically bare ground. After quite a fair bit of TLC by Landcare volunteers, we now have some really good habitat for our wildlife.

23.01.2022 NATIONAL TREE DAY....tomorrow Sunday 2nd August. As predicted, Planet Ark has announced that all public tree plantings for this annual event have been cancelled. Unfortunately, due to Covid 19, we won't be out planting trees this year. As an alternative, why not take a walk around our Landcare Centre on Hartley Road and immerse yourself in nature. Trees, shrubs, waterhole, birds. Other great spots to appreciate our local trees are: Guanaba Park (last year's National Tree Day), Lions Park and ROSSER PARK where a small tree planting will be held on Tuesday morning (4th) from 8am - 10am. Feel free to drop in, plant a tree, or just say hello to our Tamborine Mountain Landcare Tuesday Team. You will be made to feel very welcome.

22.01.2022 Check out this beautiful frog poster by Hunter McCall. Now available to buy at our Landcare Piccabeen Bookshop in Main Street. Price is $18 - all proceeds from this and other sales from the bookshop go directly to Tamborine Mountain Landcare's local projects. Drop in and have a browse. Bookshop is open: Mon-Fri 9.30 -4pm and Sat 9.30 -1pm. Thank you Hunter, for your time highlighting our local wildlife. Your photography is superb.

21.01.2022 At GUANABA PARK on Tamborine Mountain. Dry, Dry, Dry - Yes, but these young trees from the 2019 National Tree Day planting, are growing beautifully. They were planted by our local community volunteers in July 2019 just before the long dry spell of last spring and summer. With the help of our TM Rural Fire Brigade watering on their training nights, we managed to keep them alive until finally the rains came late summer and autumn. Since then - no watering needed. Being hardy native species - once established - they look after themselves. Unfortunately, due to Covid 19, 2020 Nat. Tree Day event was cancelled. However, our ever enthusiastic Tuesday Team has been planting at the Landcare Centre, Rosser Pk and Holt Park..just a few at a time. Let's hope we do get some good rain soon to keep these babies alive.

21.01.2022 This species is known in this region but not commonly observed. We sure would appreciate anyone recording any observation for us. https://biocache.ala.org.au/occurrences/search

20.01.2022 WINTER BLOSSOMS at the Landcare Centre on Hartley road. Tamborine Mountain. Not spring yet, but lots of lovely native plants flowering right now. Spectacular Brisbane wattles fill the air with their familiar scent. The purple pea bush (Hovea acutifolia) always puts on a good show. Wander in check out the serenity...you may see the little blue wrens frolicking about near the shed - and the brown pigeons down near the waterhole feeding on the bleeding heart trees. Secret hiding place for the Satin Bowerbird's bower and pretty decorations for his ladies. Lovely spot to get your nature fix - birds and flowers - what more is needed...well maybe a spider or two.

19.01.2022 ##CANCELLED## Good morning all, Our next working bee will be at Manitzky Park, end of Manitzky Rd., North Tamborine, next Saturday, 15th of August, 8-10am, followed by morning tea. We will still be practising social distancing, and use the open grass area instead of the picnic table.... It has been good to visit Ohia Ct. Reserve last month to get to know the area a bit. Thank you for coming along and kick-start this new project! The recent rain has been wonderful, and there is even a little bit of water in the creek at Manitzky park. Before the warmer temperatures arrive, I guess it would be better to do some more Lantana at the back of the park where we left it a few months ago. We can split into two groups, so the ones who would be more interested in maintenance work could do some weeding in the front area behind the creek. There is some White Passion fruit, small Lantana and all the usual culprits trying to invade this nice area again. Please bring some loppers if you have, for Lantana work, gloves, sturdy shoes, protective clothing, a hat and insect repellent (there are some small ticks at the moment). I'm very much looking forward to see you all, Ute

19.01.2022 THE FIG TREE - this is why volunteers and contractors work in bush regeneration. To be able to conserve these ancient gullies and their majestic trees is reward enough for the perseverance needed through difficult weather, steep terrain, ticks etc. Tamborine Mountain Landcare volunteers commenced work here at Areca Gully in 2011 - the goal was to make our way to the huge Moretin Bay Fig - through the dense Lantana growing right up to the road. This site is in Contour road. Start on the track next to our Landcare sign. Tracks make for easy access. To feel the peace and tranquility in these rainforests..just take a walk through and sit close to this fig tree.

19.01.2022 The Tuesday Team working bee at beautiful little Holt Park this morning. This park is tucked away around the corner of Hartley and Holt Roads. Recently Council mulched a large area ready for some native plantings - to extend the regeneration work that TM Landcare started here many years ago. Nice spot for a picnic or just to sit and quietly gaze at the large trees - some big Hoop Pines and of course Eucalyptus that Council regularly trim to keep the area safe from large fall...ing branches. TM Landcare has been working together with Council to create more wildlife habitat in the parks here on Tamborine Mountain...you may have noticed these works being carried out at Lions Park, Rosser Pk and Guanaba Park. Cutting down on the large grassy areas and planting more native shrubs and trees. Still plenty of grass for locals and visitors to enjoy but encouraging the birds and insects to visit as well, by our native plantings. We always welcome volunteers...if you would like more information about our working bees, please call Judith on 0429 808 206. Thank you. See more

19.01.2022 Latest pics from Tamborine Mountain Landcare's Richmond Birdwing Butterfly project - The Shelf Rd, Mount Tamborine. This project is running on time and ticking all the required boxes for the Qld Govt's Threatened Species grant we received last year. First year's planned work by our contractor all completed. 2000 local species planted, to provide nectar for the butterflies. Trees and shrubs to complement the existing trees planted by the Energex Offset Project which was completed in 2018. Next stage will be the planting of 500 Pararistolochia praevenosa vines - the host vine of the Richmond Birdwing Butterfly. This is a Scenic Rim Regional Council reserve and when this current project ends in 2022, the maintenance will be managed by Council with the assistance of TM Landcare volunteers.

18.01.2022 Have not read this in detail so i hope there is nothing disastrous in it. https://www.legislation.qld.gov.au//p/asmade/sl-2020-0137

18.01.2022 This post is a handy list of native plants for the SEQ region. https://drive.google.com//1suSC8H6ZoSYBAqvmTP_12MrvLS/view

17.01.2022 We keep up to date with wildlife for Mountain peeps.

17.01.2022 WHAT A TEAM! Today 12 trainees from the Belong Community Skilling Queensland initiative came to Tamborine Mountain Landcare Centre as part of their 18 week course in Conservation and Land Management. Very enthusiastic group and we made a huge dent in the small leaved Privet infestation on the boundary with the Sports Complex - just below the dam area. This terrible weed forms thickets making native seedlings impossible to emerge. The team will be back to finish off next month. Thanks to Belinda their leader and to all the participants...helping Landcare in our quest to eradicate many weeds on the mountain.

17.01.2022 Tamborine Mountain Landcare signed the petition...

16.01.2022 BIRDS, butterflies, bees and bugs..all 'B' words and all happening at the Landcare Centre at Hartley Road - Tamborine Mountain. We have created a wildlife paradise here with the special selection of bushy, shrubby native species to attract our wildlife buddies. We are all interconnected in nature and to be able to provide this habitat and to see it being utilised every day is very rewarding. Lots of fairy wrens hopping in and out of the shrubs today - they love being able t...o hide from predators in the thick shrubbery, many of these have prickles...like the native finger lime and orange thorn shrubs. Come and visit this little hidden gem of a site. Council owned property - TM Landcare is managing weeds and taking care of our 'Centre'. New gardens closer to the entrance will add to the diversity and more wildlife will be able to take advantage of this space. And less mowing! Thanks to the community support for Landcare - our Piccabeen Bookshop provides us with funds for these community projects. See more

16.01.2022 This SATURDAY morning (29th May) from 9am - 2pm....Tamborine Mountain Landcare will have a book stall - PLUS a selection of native tubestock for sale in front of the Library...all proceeds will go towards Landcare's local regeneration projects. A variety of new environmental books like plant and native animal identification and a large range of second hand fiction and non fiction. Really good prices (from $4) and children's books from $2. Plants - local native species - shru...bs and small to medium trees will be $2.50 each or a tub of 5 tubestock for $10 - selected shrubs suitable for home gardens to attract birds and insects. AND for those of you who have been trying to source the Richmond Birdwing Butterfly vine...we will be selling some good advanced stock for only $10. Please come and support our organisation. Other booksellers will also be there - so lots to choose from...the Book Market - an event organised by the Five Senses Festival. See more

16.01.2022 Friends of Wonglepong - great new group working on the Hugh Mahoney Reserve. Taking out weedy species and replanting with grasses, sedges, reeds etc. All around the lovely lake will be a wildlife refuge for the water birds, ducks, frogs etc. The monthly working bees have been well attended. This morning the volunteers planted 160 tubestock and of course finished off with coffee and cake..wonderful way for local residents to get together to make a difference to their own little patch. Tamborine Mountain Landcare is helping with funding contractors to do some of the more difficult work.

15.01.2022 A Landcare Christmas tree - something a little different this year. Podocarpus elatus (Brown pine). Trimmed a couple of branches off this beautiful primitive tree - planted at our Landcare Centre approx 6 years ago. A few green baubles to decorate, along with 2 little birdies. Bucket of water with rocks to keep branches upright and tree all sorted. Happy Christmas to you all...

15.01.2022 Beautiful little Holt Park on Tamborine Mountain. We have been working with Council to extend the earlier plantings along the creek. This whole area was just a barren weedy spot in 2003 when TM Landcare started the restoration - look at it now. The fabulous Tuesday Team planted lots of tubestock in August and then in September we hosted a group of Year 11 students from Redland Bay College who planted another couple of hundred trees and shrubs. Our local Rural Fire Brigade f...illed our tank and generously watered the little seedlings on their training nights. We really appreciate all their help to keep our plants alive during the dry season. Since the recent rain they have been just powering along as you can see from these photos taken today. More habitat for our wildlife is what we are all about when planning our tree plantings. Lots of small shrubby plants for little birds too. Our Landcare working bees may have ceased for 2020 but we will be back again early in the new year to continue our very rewarding work...please think about joining us. Contact Judith on 0429808206 if you are interested in regeneration work on Tamborine Mountain. See more

14.01.2022 Update on The Shelf Birdwing Butterfly Project. In 2019 Tamborine Mountain Landcare was successful in their application for a $60,000 Qld State Govt grant...threatened species. We have now started the second year of this 3 year project. The proposal was to build on the previous Energex Offset Project which ran for 4 years - plantings thousands of native trees. You can see the results of this wonderful project in these photos. Those little seedlings are now many metres tall an...d will be able to support the 500 Richmond Birdwing Butterfly vines that will be planted over the remaining 2 years. Our contractor - Forest Rehabilitation Ecology (Victoria Bakker and her team) has maintained this large site (11.5ha) over the past year, and has planted an extra 2000 trees and shrubs that will provide nectar for the butterflies. Scenic Rim Regional Council has partnered with us, contributing time and funds to maintain this Council property. This will be a fantastic public space for all to enjoy. There is a fairly steep road down to the site from the entrance in The Shelf Rd...however vehicle traffic is not allowed unless authorised. Walkers are welcome to visit and check out the progress. There may be an opportunity for the community to assist in the planting of the Birdwing vines later in the year. See more

14.01.2022 MAGIC MOUNTAIN...what a beautiful day on Tamborine Mountain today. Perfect for taking a gentle walk through one of our Landcare sites on Contour Road, Eagle Heights. The track has been raked for easy access, right down to Kinabalu Drive. We call this site 'Kinabalu Prospect' although it is affectionally known to us Landcarers as Contour 2. We have 3 sites on Contour Rd which were all infested with Lantana and many other invasive weeds. Many years of volunteer work and paid contractors have resulted in havens for our wildlife and for us humans. How peaceful and serene are these little patches - so close to our homes.

14.01.2022 Bugs galore on this planted White Bean (Ailanthus triphysa) at our Manitzky Pk reserve site. Looks like they were 'marching ' up the trunk. Haven't been able to id them...maybe, Ute, this is one for you? I will also ask entomologist Richard this afternoon...

10.01.2022 Would you believe it.Eucalyptus as a family with all its hundreds of species is only 10 million years old? Some of our mountain rainforest remnant species are 140 million years old?

09.01.2022 Great traineeship available. Tamborine Mountain Landcare has hosted many of these teams - working on our sites. Realistic outcomes and enthusiastic participants. A wonderful opportunity to get involved in environmental work. Highly recommended.

08.01.2022 Good morning, I would like to thank you all who came to help on our previous working bee in Manitzky park (and of course the many times before). Personally, it gives me a big boost to see, that there are people who care about our beautiful mountain and its unique nature, and decide to give up some hours on the weekend to help restore some areas, formerly completely overrun by weeds, with limited benefit for local fauna. Our coming working bee, 18th of July, will be a bit diff...erent, as most of you know already, location and date have changed, and we consider to have Manitzky Park and Ohia Court Reserve alternating now, and to have the working bees on the third Saturday each month. Manitzky Park has improved greatly, but Ohia Court Reserve can also do with some more attention. The working bee will be from 8-10am, followed by morning tea, but we will have a walk through the reserve first, to get to know the area, and then do some hand weeding. Please bring gloves and wear protective clothing, sturdy shoes and insect repellent, as ticks and mosquitoes love this area too. Loppers will be provided, if we need to deal with woody weeds. The location for Ohia Court Reserve is Long Rd, corner Ohia Ct. Parking is possible at Ohia Ct, near the entry. Hope to see you all there, Ute Harder de Sohnrey

07.01.2022 Female Richmond Birdwing Butterfly checking out the leaves of the Birdwing vines to see which are suitable to lay eggs on. Perhaps she is also checking out our signage to see if we got it right...this is TM State School rainforest site where TM Landcare is helping to conserve this important patch and to add to the diversity by planting more vines for the butterflies.

06.01.2022 PRIVET removal on the mountain. TM Landcare has a mission...to eradicate as much of this invasive weed tree as possible on Tamborine Mountain. Lions Park has been a successful project, with assistance from Council, who took down the large Privets on the Park side of the boundary. Landcare funded the removal on other side - as a community project. Now it is time to continue the work over the road at the School parking grounds. Our contractor has begun this work by taking o...ut the smaller seedlings to provide access to the larger ones for the arborist. You would have noticed the terrible climbing asparagus vines right up in the canopy...check out the pics of the ones cut down - so thorny! TMSS has worked alongside TM Landcare - many mature Privets have been lopped down on the northern boundary of the carpark. Landcare is now funding (through our Piccabeen Bookshop profits) this massive project on Curtis road - adjacent to the footpath - edge of the School's beautiful, special rainforest. The large Privets are overhanging the path and are a threat to the health and sustainability of this rainforest. With support from Mr Smith, principal, we will be engaging an arborist to remove the remaining Privets. Thanks community for your support for our bookshop...without you we wouldn't have the funds to carry out our community based projects. See more

06.01.2022 A great partnership - Tamborine Mountain Landcare working together with TM State School to preserve and care for a beautiful old remnant rainforest on School land. The school carpark is also the site for the monthly school markets. The northern boundary is now free of the large invasive Privet trees, and new trees have been planted and mulched. TM Landcare is committed to regeneration works that involve community projects, as well as our usual Council reserves sites. The funds raised in our Piccabeen Bookshop go towards these projects. We are very happy to see that the students are using this space for outdoor environmental sessions, and appreciating the value of this special rainforest.

04.01.2022 Holiday reading - check out our Piccabeen Bookshop in Main Street - down lane way next to Three Little Pigs restaurant. Hundreds of second hand books on many subjects. All proceeds go directly to Tamborine Mountain Landcare environmental projects. Please support our work by buying a book. A small selection of new books available too for those of you who are interested in nature related topics. Open Mon-Fri 9.30 - 4pm and Sat 9.30 - 1pm. Come in and have a browse - friendly volunteer staff...thank you community for your support over many years.

03.01.2022 Landcare Centre on Tamborine Mountain is buzzing with insects right now. Flowering trees and shrubs putting on a fantastic show. The native frangipani (Hymonsporum flavum) is just glorious...and hopefully the nectar will attract the Richmond Birdwing Butterfly which is now been spotted in the area. Our vines down near the waterhole have climbed up into the tree canopy above the trellis, and should be a great source of food for the caterpillars this season. All welcome to visit this site which is public land - open everyday.

02.01.2022 Good afternoon everyone, our next working bee for Manitzky Park, (at the end of Manitzky Rd, North Tamborine) is scheduled for coming Saturday, 17th of October, 8:00-10:00am, followed by morning tea. We will keep up social distancing, so once again, instead of using the picnic table, we can use the lawn to spread out a bit. Please feel free to bring a chair or blanket along. It has been a while, and as everywhere, Manitzky Park is getting dry again. I thought we could focus o...n two areas. For the ones brave enough to deal with some old grown Lantana in between some other prickly and stinging plants, there is still some within the creek line area and to the left of it between the ginger, but hopefully all in the shade. For the other group, despite the drought, the vines are once again making their way up the young shrubs and trees, and the grass from the picnic area is invading slowly some of the edges of this planted out area. I hope we can tackle both to support the juvenile trees and shrubs as much as we can. If you have some secateurs, they would come handy with cutting back the climbers as not to damage the trees. Please wear protective clothing, a hat, some gardening gloves and bring sun and insect screen, as ticks are out. Thank you so much everyone for your ongoing support and help to improve and maintain this little but important extension of the Witches Falls National Park! New volunteers are always welcome :) ! In case it rains, I will cancel early Saturday morning under comments Hope to see you all on Saturday, Regards, Ute

02.01.2022 Landcare 'open' sites this weekend: Ohia Court Reserve - corner of Long and Ohia - Eagle Heights Areca Gully - Contour road - Eagle heights Kinabalu Prospect - Contour road - Eagle Heights Tamborine Heights park - Contour Rd - Eagle Heights.... 02.01.2022 The Landcare Centre on Hartley Rd would be a great place for the Bird Count...please feel welcome to use this public space if you have time - and love our birds...

02.01.2022 Rainforest patch right in the heart of 'suburbia' on Tamborine Mountain. Licuala Drive - North Tamborine. The wheelchair friendly Esme Lahey Environmental Park was once a weed infested piece of public land. Lovingly restored by local residents with the assistance of Tamborine Mountain Landcare and the previous Beaudesert Shire Council. A wonderful learning experience for school students, locals and tourists alike - with interpretative signage, a seating circle for little ones to enjoy being out in nature. Peaceful, serene with majestic trees towering over the paths. Landcare takes care of this park along with regular maintenance of the paths by Council. Please wander in and check it out...you won't be sorry.

02.01.2022 Good morning! How wonderful is this rain, and more to come! I hope your water tank is full by now, and the worry of watering some precious plants in the garden or not can be put to rest for a while. I know it is very close to Christmas, but I still want to invite you to a weeding session at Manitzky Park, and of course to celebrate what we have achieved together with some morning tea afterwards. We could do a follow up maintenance, where we had removed a larger patch of Lanta...na at the back, and remove some more of it too. The time, as always, is from 8-10am, followed by morning tea. If you do have time to come along, please wear protective clothing, gloves, a hat, sunscreen, and don't forget insect repellent, as the ticks are out in force. We always welcome new volunteers to come along and not only to work in this wonderful park, but also to learn from each other and enjoy the company of like minded people. If the weather is not in favour, I will cancel the event early Saturday morning. Hope to see you there, Ute

01.01.2022 Having a nice and relaxed Landcare Annual General Meeting today at the Landcare center got us rewarded with the visit of a male and female of the Richmond Birdwing butterfly (Ornithoptera richmondia) to the large Sago flower (Ozothamnus diosmifolius) shrub. A good reminder what it's all about why we are doing what we are doing. I didn't have my camera with me, so I'm really sorry to not being able to show photos of those beautiful jewels. The planted host vines (Pararistoloch...ia praevenosa), crucial for the next generation of butterflies, near the dam are once again attracting this season's female butterflies to lay their eggs on, and a little caterpillar was hiding under a leaf too. Still some of those interesting flowers of the vine can be seen too. It's said that in order to form a grape, the vine relies on a tiny midge, a Forcipomyia species for pollination, which requires a damp leaf litter environment around the vine to live in. All beautifully interconnected See more
