21.01.2022 Just like everyone else, we too are learning to adapt to our new reality and situation. Our team has put together a few helpful tips that we are finding helps with the transition process and also that we all need to be aware of- 1. Keep Your Body Moving This goes for everyone, not just athletes needing to stay on track. Exercise has both physical metabolic benefits and also important psychological components. Keep moving in what ever way you can! 2. Have a Daily Routine I...n times of uncertainty that we have minimal control over, its important to focus what we can control. Our daily routine and practices. This will help us to have routine and structure that allows us to keep ticking of daily tasks and goals which each time gives us small hits of dopamine in our brain centres.Lord knows all need some dopamine in our lives right now!! 3. Stay Informed, Not Overwhelmed Its important that we stay up to date with the ever changing government recommendations, but be cautious of how much time you spend watching and listening. Also be mindful of which sources you get your information!! Too much information or incorrect information may lead to constant feelings of anxiety which makes good decision making very difficult. 4. Be Kind To Yourself and Others Please remember that all the feelings and emotions you currently feel are normal and okay! But dont forget everyone else is feeling them too. If we lose sight of this and burry our heads in the sand during the current times, we will inevitably hit a very large glass ceiling down the road. Figuring out your values can help in a few ways, - giving strength to drive and self-discipline is the absence of mo...tivation. (How does what youre trying to find the motivation to do tie in with your values? Eg. no motivation to train? Value of physical wellness? More likely to equate to self discipline) - the backbone of decision making; being conscious of your values assists in making decisions - especially tough ones (evaluate how each possible choice aligns with what is important to you eg. at the supermarket getting ingredients for salad - fresh ingredients or packet salad? How often do we ask our mates how they really are. Opening up the channels for talking. Do we have a mate that we can get involved and have some fun while exercising to help with mental and physical health? During mens health week lets make sure we ask the question and take it upon ourselves to see if... your mate wants to join in on a ride, run, gym session or even to catch up. Particularly now restrictions are lifting. Be safe and check on your bros as well as every person in your life. Its often the women in our lives that keep us ticking so check on them too. 15.01.2022 So proud of this kid! @harley.narbeth started a 160km cycle on Zwift at 5am this morning to pay respect to the Anzacs who fought for us, and completed it in 4hrs and 31mins!! What was most impressive is the longest ride hed ever done before this was only 35km and his goal was to make it to 50! Even world champions will be forced to take breaks from competition schedules when their personal lives have been impacted, and feelings of motivation will not stay with us if we have more important circumstances to take care of within our home and family lives. Parking: please refrain from parking in front of other businesses in the complex. We have plenty of parking in front of ours and also to the side. Each and every member has stuck by us through this difficult time and we cant thank you enough. Heres a reminder of how we stay Covid Safe. Always bring a towel and use it on all benches and floors. Sign in upon arrival and use hand sanitizer that is provided. Bring your own water bottle. Wipe down all equipment immediately after use. If you are unwell or experiencing symptoms please do not attend the gym. If you have been to an identified hotspot please do not attend the gym for 14 days. 03.01.2022 This is an athlete admiration post that is inspired by Danos last post about working full time. Weve all seen our high performing athletes who call To The Edge HPC home but we have so many other high performers who inspire us and others every day. Today we are highlighting @dylanpoconnor . His 2020 has involved the same as everyone elses with COVID-19 and the bushfires. But heres what he has done in 2020. Served in the Army Reserves to assist with NSW Bushfires. Was ...on placement for nursing in John Hunter when COVID-19 came into full force in NSW. Those 2 things alone we thank you and would understand if you put training as a low priority. But what has impressed us the most is Dylan has not complained about any of it. He incurred a calf injury while assisting with the bushfires yet stuck to rehab and strength training to bang out a 15 minute PB at Newcastle Triathlon less than 3 weeks after returning from service. And although his main event was meant to be on Sunday just past he hasnt backed off. He has looked at where he can improve and made training fun. Got the sessions in and the numbers are rising. 02.01.2022 How dedicated to achieving your best are you?? How many hours per day and how many hours per week of deliberate practice can you honestly say you put in to make your dreams come true? As athletes, you might be training somewhere between 10-30 hrs per week (depending on age, training level and sport). As coaches I can honestly say we put in close to 100 hrs per week ! This number is made up of a multitude of tasks and jobs around coaching, programming, athlete / client relatio...ns, mentoring, business admin, personal recovery and heck more hours studying! Working on your craft entails more than just hours in the gym. As an athlete you need to cover so many areas of personal development in order to build the whole package. 02.01.2022 The power of internal dialogue! In Jordans Netflix series The Last Dance, we watch time and time again just how strong his mental game is. Heres the thing, You cant change reality, you have little control over what goes on outside of you. You DO have control over how you interpret reality, how you talk to yourself about a situation and how you let that impact your (emotional) state.... Jordan knows what creates a state of motivation for himself and hell mentally shape and bend the reality of any situation to help him achieve that state. It goes a little something like this... 1. Reality 2. How you think about that reality (this sucks vs bring it onnnnn) 3. How that impacts your state (feel lousy vs feel motivated) 4. How you perform as a result of 2 & 3 Your cognitive appraisal of a situation arguably is more important than the situation itself. To build a strong mental game the conversation you have in your head needs to build you up! The thing is for most people, the conversations we have in our heads go un-noticed if we dont pay mindful attention to them. This is where having a mindfulness practice will benefit you greatly! For themselves but more importantly that we are all more aware on how we can help each other. Male or female.

01.01.2022 Youre program is saying interval run, or youve decided to throw them in yourself. So run each one as hard as you can for that set distance...??? Do this and they will get slower and slower and youll eventually be completely drained. When we program intervals they are done with consideration of a number of factors but none more important of the immediate condition you are in. How do you feel? Are you fatigued? Recovering from being sick? Or do you feel recovered, energetic ...and ready to go fast? The answer to these questions are very reliant on being honest with yourself so can vary with mental state. However we can use data like HR, timed speed test after the warm up or even a jump if you have the ability to measure that. From this adjust your pacing or reps/rest accordingly. A skill to learn is to be honest with yourself, learn your body and dont compare sessions based purely on time.
