24.01.2022 Watermelons are in!! A huge day planting out the plot in Araluen with pumpkin, spaghetti squash, rockmelon, corn and of course watermelon. The anticipation is high this year after last seasons crop was lost during the bushfire that tore through the valley. Its been a while since we enjoyed that sweet and juicy watermelon goodness ... 24.01.2022 Im thinking it might be time to start produce boxes again???? The cold, wet start to the season has meant that regular produce boxes have been a little tricky for us to put together because everything has been growing so SLOOOOOOW. But we may be turning a corner, with enough produce now ready to harvest at the same time to put together these beautiful boxes of delicious, nutrient dense, chemical free food! This box is headed into Braidwood tomorrow for a beautiful family ...to share with their friends. 21.01.2022 Chemical free market gardening........ So much goodness!! So many caterpillars ... I've often said to customers that if you find a grub or beatle or caterpillar on our veggies, then count yourself lucky! You can rest assured there are no chemicals on that produce! However... After a two day break from.the garden to celebrate Mollies 2nd birthday, we were greeted this morning by an epic plague of the little buggers devouring our peas and snowpeas. Unfortunately the crop is ruined. We've picked what we can and have already started pulling out the vines. It seems as though this time each year we find ourselves saying "next season is going to be great" but despite our best efforts and preparation, something comes along to make it really bloody hard!! ... 19.01.2022 A baby and some rhubarb. Well now its really a toddler and some rhubarb. Lucky no 4 is on the way so we can continue our weird obsession with posing our kids next to large or unusual shaped vegetables. We will have this gorgeous Giant Victoria variety of rhubarb at tomorrow's Braidwood Farmers Market. It's sweeter than your regular red varieties meaning you need to add less sugar to your pies, jams and cordials. And with these giant stalks, you definitely get more bang for y...our buck. We will also have broadbeans, shelling peas, radishes, leeks, herbs galore and green onions. A small, but solid start to our spring / summer season. 16.01.2022 Spuds are in! We had to wait for the ground to dry up after over 300mm in the past month left the potato patch a tad boggy. But better late then never! 14.01.2022 Droughts and fires and pandemics..... Oh My! If your local farmers market is on this week (you'll find us @sagefarmersmarket tomorrow) then there's a few simple things you can do to help keep my family, your family and our community a little bit safer. 1) Use a non contact, cashless payment system where possible. We use @square to take electronic payments. Its safe and secure, and best of all, completely bypasses the need to handle money!... 2) Farmers market's should be a place to engage all your senses, but in the current climate, its probably best to only handle the produce you're going to buy. And dont forget to wash your veggies when you get them home. 3) If you're feeling unwell, then be a responsible citizen and please stay home. Send a friend or family member to do your shopping or get in touch with your grower or market manager and see if there's a produce box or CSA scheme you can get involved in (check ours out at the link in our bio) Finally, now more then ever we need to be looking inwards, looking smallscale and looking local. Although it's still hard to see now, some good has come out of the drought and fires we recently experienced. 13.01.2022 Well, spring is in the air and things are happening on the farm so I suppose its time to get back on the socials...... A stunning day today, spent digging holes and planting out two fruit orchards. We have a 'Birthday Orchard' where we plant fruit trees, gifted in place of unnecessary toys for each of the kids first birthdays and today we finally planted Mollies trees. We also began started transforming our unused original kitchen garden into a commercial orchard, with 30 fr...uit trees and a number of grape vines. 11.01.2022 HEY TOSSERS.... This one's for you! To all the weekenders, motorbike riders, hunters, wood collectors, 4 wheel drivers, poachers or anyone who visits our beautiful forest.... Could you please... Take your beer cans, energy drinks and fast food packaging home with you. I find it hard to believe you couldn't find a bin in the 70 something kilometres between the closest KFC and our forest. Respect the gates and fences you come across. They're not there for you to cut, remove or drive straight through. Keep left. Our family regularly drives this road. Try and find the strength to refrain from doing doughnuts in every patch of dirt and mud you see. Stop illegally cutting down trees. stop flying your drones over our property This forest is one of the most beautiful places around and is home to amazing and diverse wildlife. It should be travelled and enjoyed with respect and consideration for all that call it home. And that includes our family. This is forest is our home and we have the right to feel safe and respected in it. 10.01.2022 I feel like our strawberry related content has been pretty heavy lately, but can you blame us when we're getting a couple of kilos of these bad boys every few days!
