25.01.2022 #FlashbackFriday Tobruk Pool opened to the public 70 years ago today on Saturday 14th October 1950. An amazing 6790 people attended the pool over that first w...eekend. The opening crowds were captured in our local history photograph today from Walters Studio, and they certainly seemed to be enjoying the new facility. Work had started in the early days of the war but was halted in December 1941 when all available resources and manpower were being redirected to the war effort. Due to the shortages of equipment and materials after the war, the pool was not completed until 1950. Upon its opening, the Townsville Daily Bulletin declared that the pool would go a long way to making the Strand one of the world’s most notable promenades. The new pool and associated facilities cost 54,000 with the colour scheme was harvest buff and mist green, chosen specifically to reduce heat and glare.

23.01.2022 ATTENTION ALL LEARN TO SWIM PARENTS We regret to announce that we will not be back in at Tobruk to start the swimming term next week as we had hoped. The re...development is moving along, but still not quite ready yet. As we are no longer running our swimming programs at either the hub or grammar school pool, we are now just having to wait it out, and will be back in as soon as we get the all clear at Tobruk. If any of you have been past recently, you will have seen that both pools are looking pretty ready to go, and now have some nice new shade sails up. We even saw some gardens being started on today, so fingers crossed we aren’t too much further away. We understand that these delays are frustrating and we wish we were in a position to let you know an upcoming return date, but for now we just have to wait. We will continue to take bookings for lessons for when we can return. If you haven’t already re-booked or would like to book for when we do return to Tobruk, please send us a message here on Facebook. (We are aware of the issues with the phone, and these are being investigated but in the meantime, Facebook message is the best point of contact) We can’t thank you all enough for enduring through this wait with us and for all of your continuing support. 15.01.2022 The Learn to Swim pool at Tobruk Memorial Baths officially has water in it! Construction has been moving along and it's so exciting to see the first pool filled up. Can't wait to see it all finished soon!

14.01.2022 Swimming Assessments for Term 4 We are doing swimming assessments for our learn to swim program for term 4. This is available for any new bookings to work out what level your children will need to be placed into. Come on down next Tuesday between 3 - 5pm. ... 09.01.2022 ATTENTION PLEASE NOTE THAT TOBRUK POOL IS NOT OPENING TO THE PUBLIC TOMORROW! - We are aware that the article in the Bulletin said Monday, but unfortunately this is incorrect!!... Although the council had planned for us to be able to be back in and opening for all tomorrow, there has been a couple of work place health and safety issues that need to be resolved before they can hand the pool back over to us and open to the public. Unfortunately until these few issues are fixed the pool will remain closed. This is not our choice and we understand it is another frustrating delay, but it is out of our control and we are all working together to get the pool ready for everyone’s return. WHEN WE GET A CONFIRMED OPEN DATE FROM THE COUNCIL, WE WILL POST HERE. Again, thank you for your patience and understanding and we will let you know as soon as we can get back in the water. Who’s as excited as we are Please see below for details regarding opening times, classes, etc. ... All public swimming and general use of the pool commences tomorrow Opening Hours Mon to Thurs - 5am to 7pm Friday - 5am to 6pm Saturday - 7am to 4pm Sunday - 8am to 4pm Stroke Classes & Squad All levels 5 - 8 and Squad will start from TOMORROW Session times are as follows: LEVELS 5 & 6 Monday to Friday - 330pm till 415pm - 415pm till 5pm Saturday - 9am till 10am LEVELS 7 & 8 Monday to Friday - 330pm till 430pm Saturday - 9am till 10am SENIOR SQUADS Monday to Friday - 530am till 7am - 430pm till 615pm Saturday - 7am till 9am Learn to Swim All of our babies, and levels 1 - 4 will re-commence the following week. 08.01.2022 SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAM We are opening up bookings for our school holiday program. Starting after the new year for the 3 weeks leading up to the return t...o school and the normal swimming term. These programs are a great option to use as an intensive to push through to the next level or just for some school holiday fun. You can book for 1,2 or 3 weeks, the choice is yours. 1 LEVELS 4 Babies classes will be on daily at 830am Levels 1 - 4 will all have classes available Paul will be running his Level 4/5 transition intensive class each week at 10am - 11am DATES & TIMES Week One - 4th Jan till 8th Jan 2021 Week Two - 11th Jan till 15th Jan 2021 Week Three - 18th Jan till 22nd Jan 2021 Varying classes between 830am - 11am COST (Per child for a 5 lesson week) 1 week - $80 2 weeks - $155 3 weeks - $225 Babies are the standard $12 per class or a click on your 10 pass card If you would like to book, please give us a call on 4772 6550
