This approach can vary due to the environment, weather, and infrastructure, creating the coffee we come to enjoy everyday. 04.01.2022 Growing a coffee plant starts with a seed. Farmers looking to plant new trees typically procure seeds from local nurseries, obtain seeds by saving them from their own fields or get them from friends and neighbours. The coffee seeds usually stay in the nursery beds for about 70 days. The healthy seedlings are then transplanted to seedling trays or individual plastic polybags. They will be planted in the coffee fields when they reach 20-40 cm. These young plants stay in the fie...ld for anywhere between seven months to a full year. It will generally take up to 3 years before these trees are ready for a full harvest, so planning plays a huge role when it comes to developing new plants across the farm while still being able to produce enough coffee to survive.
