22.01.2022 Home schooling win today! I am so proud of my eldest two today: they really got stuck in to school work and were able to create this video about their learning. Our usual home school day is pretty much shambolic, so I’m feeling like a winner at the moment! And now I know that they can actually focus, show interest and produce great results, I suppose I’m going to have to lift my expectations (well, at least in my head I know it is possible... but the reality of the frequency of this kind of miracle is yet to be seen...). 22.01.2022 Woodsmen River Retreat . @wooramelriverretreat. A stop over on the way north, and a relaxing float in the naturally heated hot pools. It’s so awesome that the water just flows on up out of the ground so beautifully warm and toasty... always! We could certainly use something like this in Tassie!!. There had just been heaps of rain the few days before we arrived, so the river was actually flowing too. This river is usually only flowing under the ground... which I didn’t even r...ealize was a thing! 22.01.2022 An afternoon bike ride from Darwin’s East Point Reserve, along the most fantastic foreshore at sunset, and dinner at the @darwintrailerboatclub. This was a great activity with the kids - definitely recommend. I absolutely love this Top End weather! 21.01.2022 Darwin Waterfront wave pool!!! What a great place to spend a few hours in the hot, hot sun!! The kids had a blast on the rings and body boards, (and I was stoked that I didn’t get sea sick from the waves this time!) 20.01.2022 Mindil Beach Sunset Markets with the girls. A great little outing without the boys (who stayed home and watch a super hero movie - and loved it!). 18.01.2022 Sunrise on our first day of freedom in Western Australia... thank God! The kids woke up at 4:45am and ran straight out of the caravan park and across to the park they had been eyeing off for the last 15 days. Meant I got to catch the sunrise at least! So, we survived 15 nights stuck in quarantine, and are now free to roam! WA, here we come! #sunrise #kununurra #westernaustralia

17.01.2022 Our first night beach camping! I was a bit excited to be finally staying on the ACTUAL beach! This is what travel dreams are made of right?! Except then reality kicked in: I wanted John to park the van up on the soft sand near the trees, so it would look beautiful for a photo... but let me just tell you, SOFT SAND and caravans should not even be in the same sentence You’d think we would have learned after the last time we got bogged back in NSW? Anyway, John then spent the ...next 3 hours in the 37 degree heat, no shade, (but 6 beers), digging us back out And by the way - a breezy beach is great to keep you cooler, but not so great for keeping the sand out of the van... it blew everywhere! and couple that with three kids coming in and out 5 million times... we were living in a sand pit!! But I still loved it, and would definitely do it again. #gunnpointbeach #beachcamping #sunset #bogged #northernterritoryaustralia

14.01.2022 Vesteys Beach in Darwin was a nice little surprise yesterday. We had finished visiting the Museum and spied the beach next door, so went for an arvo stroll and found a million hermit crabs and shell treasures. Didn’t stay for the sunset but I wish we had! 08.01.2022 Flash back to early June 2020 when we left little old @tasmania on our adventure. The @spiritoftas brought our VERY overweight Ranger across to the ‘mainland’ and we escaped immediately to Apollo Bay on the @greatoceanroad. 04.01.2022 A pet butterfly!. . When this beauty emerged, it was happy to chill with us in the caravan for a couple of days. Seriously! How cool is that?! . We got to watch the butterfly pat its brand new proboscis together, then unroll it to then take its first drink of honey and water. It’s just amazing to see!... . The kids absolutely loved having a pet for a couple of days, and when it was strong and wings ready to roll, we set it free! . What an awesome science lesson this process has been. . And also, this is my kind of pet: caterpillars just need the milkweed you find them on, and then the butterfly just needs honey and water... once or twice... and it only hangs around for a couple of days! Perfect! . . We did nearly have a disaster mid-chrysalis though: we had bad weather and a stick fell out of a tree and knocked the plant over and broke off the leaf with the chrysalis attached! 04.01.2022 Can you ever get sick of sunsets? We went for an impromptu cruise up to Nightcliff and grabbed some fish and chips by the coast. The rocky cliff walls were absolutely stunning and just made me want to take 1000 photos! (Including a few to add to John’s modeling portfolio ). Then a wander along the foreshore to explore the jetty and rocks with the kids, and of course savour the Darwin sunset. #darwin #sunset #nightcliff #caravanningwithkids #nttourism

02.01.2022 A butterfly is born . . Watching a butterfly emerge from a chrysalis is just amazing! You watch it start, and you think this butterfly is going to tiny! It’s wings are small and crinkled up, and it looks like it’s going to be a dud. But then it just kind of grows. In front of your eyes. The wings get HUGE, and they open up to be so completely perfect. And then they flap gently for the first time and you wonder how on earth that thing ever fit in the little chrysalis just a few minutes before?! . #monarchbutterfly #butterflyemerging #butterfly #newbutterfly #mothernature #magic
