25.01.2022 Just a reminder that while adults are required to wear socks in class for hygiene purposes, we encourage our toddlers to be barefoot! Being barefoot gives your toddler sensory input through the base of the feet which helps with proprioception (awareness of where they are in space) and builds muscle strength in the foot and ankle. This in turn, helps develop proper skeletal alignment of the lower limb, hips and spine and recruits muscles in the core! In addition, being barefoot makes climbing and balancing much easier!

24.01.2022 Are you going Toddler Sense for the first time? Here is a quick read about what you can expect when you come to class and what is 'NORMAL' in regards to your experience! 1. Your toddler may take a bit of time to 'warm up', even if they have been to Baby sensory. It's a new environment, with new people and lots of new & exciting things to explore. It often takes them time to process all of this, whether it's fifteen minutes or even a few weeks... Please know this is NORMAL. We often have expectations on how they 'should' be acting but it is important to follow their lead and give them time and space to take everything in. For this reason, a trial is not always a fair indicator of "how they are going". If you can, try and commit to a full term so you can really gauge how your toddler is adapting to the classes. 2. Your toddler will probably run around - a lot! It is totally NORMAL for our toddlers (especially the boys) to run around during the structured activities. This might be because everything is new and they are busy soaking it all in. It might also be because their brain wants them to move (we know that brain development is directly linked to movement). Please don't feel you need to stop this - there is even evidence to suggest that toddlers (boys especially) learn better while moving. Give them time and encouragement and this usually settles as they understand the routine 3. Your toddler will join in some activities, maybe not all. Different children have different personalities and will be interested in different things at different times. Toddler Sense varies every week and has such a mixture of activities that there will always be something within each class they absolutely love! 4. Your toddler will have 'situations' with other children or in response to specific instructions. This may be sharing or personal space, for example, or packing away or sitting still. It's completely NORMAL and our classes are designed to help with social development, so these 'situations' are excellent learning opportunities for your toddler. It helps them to prepare for kindy and school. Help teach them the management tools for these situations or talk to us if you need advice 5. Your Class Leader and your toddler will be asking you to join in. It's important to really engage with your toddler during class so they get the most out of it. This engagement might be repeating instructions, visually modelling an activity or even helping with "doing" the activity. Toddlers benefit from role models and you are their best (and favourite) one! Our classes offer a huge learning opportunity for your toddler across a range of skills and hopefully you will see the gains in development over the term. We get to know your toddlers well and share your pride when they reach another stage We hope this helps give you some reassurance about what is normal but feel free to talk to us in class at anytime See you soon!

24.01.2022 We are excited to be starting Term 4 with our Fabulous 'Lets Party'. Getting to know each other and learning how to interact together in dance, music and excitment. We have classes for our youngest Toddlers, (starting at 12 months old in their own specialist class) through to older Toddlers (up to 3 and a half years old) and we learn through routine, play and imagination ! 21.01.2022 This week in Toddler Sense, we are relaxing to beautiful sounds from far-away places, visiting an oriental tea house, creating an oriental garden, and taking a walk through the Emperor's Night Garden. We will also see some stick puppets performing the Willow Pattern story!

21.01.2022 This week at Toddler Sense we took a trip down to the pond to visit the frogs and wildlife. We used our imagination and rowed our boats across the pond in search of frogs and wildlife. We enhanced our physical development through actions, singing and storytelling and encouraged sharing, throwing and catching skills during our hot frog activity. During our speckled frog activity we encouraged counting down skills and a discussion point on what frogs like to eat. This week's... theme enhanced our toddlers imagination and language skills. It was wonderful to see the interests develop through the activities this week. And as always, was lovely to see you. Take care. :)

19.01.2022 So today I waved goodbye to Toddler Sense for the final time as I hand over the reigns to Jemma and Elaine for the foreseeable future. Toddler Sense has been a rollercoaster of a journey for me- a true reflection of toddlerhood in many ways.......massive highs, pretty big lows and LOTS of craziness along the way!! Rewind back to 4 years ago when we first launched Toddler Sense in Australia and l I had just run a class with 20 toddlers (never again!). I was in tears ....it fe...lt like one big sugar-fuelled, out-of-control toddler party and I was wondering what an earth I had done by taking it on. I had been running Baby Sensory for 2 years and had been in my comfort zone because it held so many similarities to my previous physio roles. It came naturally to me whereas this felt like I had just been thrown a wiggles costume and told to get on with it. I realised I now had to add "children's entertainer" to my box of tricks and I had no idea how to do that! It took me a long time to find my my feet and to work out what kind of toddler class leader I wanted to be. I think I finally got there last year but this was probably the first year where I really felt like I'd nailed it AND felt like I was in my comfort zone once again! Saying goodbye today was so hard. Hard because I realised I didn't want to say goodbye to Toddler sense (and believe me there were definitely times in the last 4 years where I would have paid people to take it off me) and hard because I suddenly realised what an achievement it had been to get to this point. The hardest part though is always saying goodbye to the toddlers and parents and today marked almost 4 years of memories made with some of them To ALL my families, no matter how long or short our journey, I thank you for letting me be a part of it. There truly is nothing more special than helping mould little people and I am privileged that you allowed me that chance. Much love Emma See more

Experience/qualifications in the field of working with children, childcare or teaching is preferable although our training programme is comprehensive and will equip you to become an amazing Toddler Sense Class Leader! 14.01.2022 A COVID-19 update As many of you are aware, last week the WA government released the "WA Roadmap" for lifting of restrictions over the coming weeks and months and as a result, we've had a lot of messages asking when classes may resume! At this stage we anticipate we will be able to recommence face to face classes during Phase 3 of the Roadmap. However this phase is to be finalised in the coming weeks, and is dependent on WA's progress. In the meantime, we wanted to let you... know that Baby Sensory & Toddler Sense Australia, has been working really hard behind the scenes to develop a COVID-19 relaunch plan, alongside our COVID-19 management and safety plan. We have always taken the health and safety of our families extremely seriously so these plans have been designed to continue that mindset, but with COVID-19 and government guidance in mind. Each plan clearly outlines what our classes and venues will need to do to be able to run classes safely, in line with government restrictions, but also to ensure we maintain our high quality delivery. Studies show that if a baby or child has been involved in informal music making on a regular basis, by the age of 5 yrs, they demonstrate better numeracy and literacy skills and emotional and social regulation compared to their peers!

09.01.2022 We had a lovely time celebrating all things that glow! This week we sang Our "How do you do" song which we sing every week because it strengthens the connective circuits in our brains. In addition, we worked on early counting skills during the balloon and spaceman activity and worked our bodies through dancing and catching bubbles . Parents were also helping to develop their toddlers language skills by describing what they can see and what is happening during the activities.... We hope you enjoyed your session this week. 05.01.2022 Thank you to everyone for your warm welcome and kind messages for my first week as a Toddler Sense Leader. WOW is the word that comes to mind when I reflect back on the week! I had many emotions starting this week and ended feeling exhausted, happy and well, just proud. It was lovely to see some familiar faces and to welcome our newest explorers and adventurers to our Toddler Sense classes. We had a great time at our Term 4 party, easing ourselves back into the routine of o...ur classes. LET'S PARTY was all about getting the term started with some activities that our toddlers are familiar with but also introducing some new activities and tools that can be developed at home. DEVELOPMENTAL INFORMATION FROM THIS PLAN: - " How do you do?" provides toddlers with a sense of belonging and strengthens the muscles in our hands with the use of tapping sticks. - Team building and social skills developed by making music together during our Shaky- shaky and Roly-Poly activity. - Engaging in simple games with rules introduces toddlers to the idea of following instructions and team building. - Physical development and upper body strength was encouraged during Roly-Poly, Musical Islands/Statues and Follow the leader. Next week is GLOW PARTY! I look forward to our party with all things that glow! Get excited and if you can...dress the part! Thank you again for your wonderful welcome and a BIG welcome to all our new members. 02.01.2022 Pirates & Princesses After 3 months away from classes, this week marked the return of face-to-face classes following the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions. Not only that but we welcomed the toddlers back in our new Joondalup Centre and what fun we had! It was hard to decide whether it was the parents or toddlers that were more happy! This week the kids rowed a boat, discovered some treasure, escaped a snappy crocodile AND saved a princess!
