21.01.2022 Lets talk about Pes Planus or flat feet It happens when the arch of the foot collapses and comes into complete or near-complete contact with the ground. Leading to: * Pain in midfoot, arches and lateral foot... * Heel pain * Shin pain * Knee pain * Hip pain * Arthritis in affected joints * Lower back pain * Etc etc... Take my lovely patient over here as an example (swipe), presenting with most of the above symptoms. Treatment? A combination of conservative and orthotic therapy. And lots and lots of stretching! #flatfoot #pesplanus #fallenarches #collapsedarches #archpain #heelpain #kneepain #lowerbackpain #painrelief #orthotics #podiatry #podiatrist #sydney

13.01.2022 Out - Toeing (Duck feet) If your feet look like the above (without orthotics), theres a high likelihood youre duck footed, or more technically, you are out-toeing when you walk. While most children out-grow this trait naturally as they develop, it can lead to problems in adults if left untreated. ... One of the best ways to control this is by the use of custom made prescription orthotics with specific modifications, along with lots of stretching and exercises to retrain your muscles #duckfeet #outtoe #outtoeing# #anklesprains #sports #sportsinjuries #sportspodiatrist #runninginjuries #running #footpain #pronation #footpronation #podiatrist #footclinic #rehab #exercises #pediatrics #paediatrics #childrenshealth #sydney

09.01.2022 Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA) with Phenolisation is a common minor surgical procedure for the permanent treatment of ingrown toenails. Following an injection of local anaesthetic, the edge/s of the nail growing into the flesh is removed, followed by the application of phenol acid to permanently ablate the tissue responsible for the growth of the ingrown portion of the nail. The procedure normally takes around 20 minutes and most of the discomfort subsides within a few days. It can typically take 4-6 weeks for complete healing, however you can still walk and resume daily activities during this time. #pna

06.01.2022 HOW DOES SHOCKWAVE THERAPY HELP WITH HEEL PAIN? Shockwave therapy is a NON-INVASIVE procedure which works by inducing microtrauma to the affected tissue, which in turn initiates a healing response by the body, which then causes blood vessel formation and increased delivery of nutrients to the area being treated, which finally stimulates a repair process and relieves pain #plantarfasciitis #plantarfasciitistreatment #heelpain

04.01.2022 Your feet are like the foundation of a house. Imbalances in the feet can cause a chain reaction of adjustments in your posture and walking mechanics higher up in the body, affecting your knee, hip and even the spine. 04.01.2022 A single leg stance test can tell us alot about risk of injury due to poor foot stability and weakness or inhibition of certain muscle groups Things to consider: Are you able to stand in this position for said period of time? Toe gripping? ... Foot searching for stability by moving in and out (from inversion to eversion)? Hip drop? Knees caving in? This is important to assess because 40% of the gait cycle is spent in single leg stance, and strengthening the muscle groups involved will significantly help with overall foot stability and body function #biomechanicalassessment #gaitanalysis #footfunction #muscleweakness #singlelegstance #injuries #sportsinjuries #runninginjuries #sportspodiatry #sportspodiatrist #podiatry #footclinic #sydney #merrylands #posture #paediatrics #children #flatfeet #musclestrengthening #exercises See more

04.01.2022 Another example of an asymptomatic heel spur. Even though the spur is relatively large, the patient has no symptoms of heel pain, as heel pains are generally caused by inflammation of the insertional fibers of the plantar fascia (structure pointed by black arrow), at the insertion of the heel bone, and not the spur itself.

02.01.2022 When to know if that harmless mole or spot is infact, a malignant melanoma? Moles are not common on the bottom of the feet due to the lack of sun exposure. However if you spot one, make sure to do the melanoma ABCDE checklist rule: A) Asymmetry - one half of the mole doesnt match the other B) Border Irregularity - Borders that are irregular and hard to define C) Colour - A melanoma can be brown but can have as many as five or six colours (blue, black, brown, tan, grey..., pink, and red). These colours are unevenly or irregularly distributed D) Diameter - Most melanomas are greater than 6 mm E) Evolving - A change in colour, shape or size over time. This can happen over months to years. If you notice any of the above, consult with your Dr and dermatologist immediately. @ Toes & Soles Podiatry See more
