24.01.2022 Another condition resulting from changes within the brain is Epilepsy. The brain sends messages all over the body through electrical impulses. When this activity is disrupted (just like a short circuit) a seizure may occur. Depending on where this occurs it may affect movement, consciousness and sensation. Purple Day is March 26th check out this link for information on Epilepsy Awareness Day. https://www.epilepsy.org.au #epilepsy #purpleday #brainmatters #brainhealth

23.01.2022 #BalanceforBetter is 2019's theme for International Women's Day on Friday the 8th March. Wear purple to show your support for all women worldwide. Here is a link to their website, there is a great photographic competition currently running and a lot more information on what women are achieving around the world. https://www.internationalwomensday.com/IWD2019

23.01.2022 A great piece of advice from someone I know with #parkinsonsdisease They refuse to allow it to take over their life and likened the disease to a back seat driver. They are in charge of the wheel but every now and then it (the disease) tries to hop in the front to take control. This person has decided this is not an option. So while some days are more challenging than others, with proper management and attention to health, the disease stays in the back seat!

22.01.2022 None of us get enough sleep but did you know that people who are chronically sleep deprived are more likely to develop chronic diseases including Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease or have a stroke or heart attack. Another good reason to keep our brain healthy by making sure we have enough rest. #worldsleepday

22.01.2022 Hello, as you can see by my posts so far, the brain, and in particular dementia associated conditions (and there are over 150 identified already), are my passion. Actually my passion is working with and supporting people and their families to have quality of life. Together Diverional Therapy Solutions is my private practice run independently to meet community needs. I have over 22 years experience in many aspects of aged care and will be a Dementia Specialist when I complete... a Bachelor of Dementia Care (currently at an associate degree level). I am a registered Diversional Therapist. Here are some links for more information. http://diversionaltherapy.org.au/About-DTA/What-is-DT http://www.utas.edu.au/wicking/bdc

18.01.2022 Great news already from the Royal Commission in to Aged Care. They've officially identified the need for training for staff caring for people with dementia. Those of us who work in the industry have been saying this is a problem for a long time, along with more staff ratio to patients, better pay, flexible work hours and more. Hopefully this Commission will cause action to happen. I imagine we all want better quality care for ourselves and our family. https://www.dta.com.au/royal-commission-highlights-dementi/

17.01.2022 I wonder how many of us can move like this now let alone when we are in our 90's! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgtiVCsZOj4

16.01.2022 This movement program is ideal for people needing a slower paced exercise routine. The routine can be done sitting or standing and is followed with a fun physical activity. Call me for session times.

13.01.2022 Found this random fact for April 1st, is it True or False? #aprilfoolsday

11.01.2022 'The body heals with play, the mind heals with laughter, and the spirit heals with joy.' (Proverb)'The body heals with play, the mind heals with laughter, and the spirit heals with joy.' (Proverb)

08.01.2022 This week is Brain Awareness Week. Did you know The brain processes 400 Billion bits of information a second and has a storage capacity of approximately a million gigabytes. No wonder it feels overloaded sometimes! Here is a link to a short video about our brains. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSzsI5aGcK4&vl=en
