25.01.2022 This handsome young man, Von Zennith Kade, (better known as Max) is going to go meet a potential girlfriend today, if they get along well we may have a lot of little Toka Farm rottweilers running around in the future!

24.01.2022 Getting some practice in on the Webber!!

22.01.2022 Hopefully you all survived the wind gusts today unscathed. Somehow our girls 12ft trampoline ended up on the cafes roof!! Not exactly where we thought to look for it when it was suddenly no longer in the backyard!

22.01.2022 Before we left for Darwin we sold all the cows, apart from 2 of our Limousin x Angus bred steers Buddy & Dino. Now after settling back home here in Beeac weve began to restock, this time starting with six 15mth old Hereford heifers. One thing cows are always curious about is dogs so I got some good photos of the girls & Buddy today after they came to check out our rotty Max

22.01.2022 The Beeac primary school have recently completed their Brolga Pathways Project in which the students learnt all about the beautiful Brolgas that inhabit Beeac & our surrounding areas. The Brolga is a grey crane with a red band of colour on its head, best known for its intricate mating dance. They build a nest of sticks in wet areas & usually lay 2 eggs at a time. Although they are not considered endangered there is a decline in Brolga populations. One part of the students ...project included them working with artist Peter Day to construct artworks that can be displayed to raise public awareness of the Brolgas living in our region. Karen Cherry & Peter Day spent a very cold, windy & miserable hour erecting these 3 Brolga silhouettes in our front paddock, which not only look great but will hopefully spark interest in the passing by traffic. Being made of natural materials they will slowly break down with the elements. They are well placed as we have a pair of Brolgas that come to stay for a short period yearly in one of the wet areas up the back of our property. A great educational project which was taken on enthusiastically by all the students!

21.01.2022 A Queensland grazier is auctioning a steer on Facebook, giving customers a chance to meet their meat. The highest bidders will each receive a hindquarter or forequarter of the beast. The response so far means the beast could be worth more than $5,000.

19.01.2022 Wilf Norris has spent a lifetime working with draught horses, a passion that started when he was just 14 years old. He has continued to use the horses on his farm despite the advent of mechanical alternatives. http://www.abc.net.au//octogenerians-lifetime-of-w/7637634

15.01.2022 Its been a long time since our last post but things just keep getting busier & busier here! The girls & I are awaiting the arrival of our 5th little lady while Tony is busy going back & forth between Beeac & Darwin. The cafe is coming along nicely, just a few more jobs to tick off the list now. We have added some lovely young Angus heifers to our Herefords as well as a Highland cow & calf (just because they are so cute really!) and a young British White steer, Casper.... Some of our young hens have started to lay eggs, before long we should have a rainbow of colours! Matildas keen to take her Malay hen to her first Poultry show coming up in June. We have had another little mare, Bushby Park Tess, join our herd of hairy Shetlands, the girls have been out & about with the ponies and in true country style Belle even got picked up from school yesterday with her pony I have a million photos Ill have to start to upload over the next week but heres one that anyone with cows can relate too...chasing the darn things around! At least it does get easier as your kids get older!

15.01.2022 The day before fly out day & what are we doing? Drenching cows of course!

14.01.2022 Thank goodness, all this time weve been wasting cracking open eggs!!

09.01.2022 Well after a long busy period with work & having another baby girl we finally got away to do some exploring! First place we stopped off at was Mt Bundy Station, a 20,000 acre property set on the banks of the Adelaide River. First established in 1911, owners Scott & Sue now run 1,000 head of Brahmans & after meeting Nigel the bull it was hard not to fall in love with the breed! You can see why over 50% of Australias cattle population are Brahmans or Brahman crosses, a breed... that not only does well in the hot but also the cold climates, they are generally quite docile & live longer than other breeds, producing calves at up to & over 15 years of age. As well as Brahmans Mt Bundy Station also had a small herd of buffalo including Lucy the hand reared baby buffalo. Tony finally caught a couple of Barramundi while us girls went to look at the quarter horses, and some friendly peacocks. Although we didnt see any crocs we did spot an old pony cooling off in the lake, although it was very hot I dont know how much of a good idea that was... The property is also rich in WWII history which unfortunately with the kids we didnt get a chance to explore. Now with the dry season upon us Mt Bundy Station is definitely a place wed go back to visit & to learn a bit more about the buffalo side of things...something thats got our interest!

08.01.2022 Theres nothing better than seeing all the canola out at the moment, except for seeing one of our own bees from our hive enjoying it as well

04.01.2022 Toka "water park" Farm!

03.01.2022 This may be the perfect example of the old saying beauty is in the eye of the beholder but Sophie is pretty smitten with our new Malay pullet Elsa. These chickens are definitely not the cutest things out there but what they lack in the looks department they make up for in personality! They are the tallest breed of chicken, reaching over 90cm in height. Primarily they were used for cock fighting but their only real use now is the dinner plate, or to participate in poultry... shows, especially seeing as their egg laying is so poor with maybe one egg a week. Our two girls are still only young but will grow to weigh about 4kgs. They are super friendly and..well..how can you not love that face?? See more

03.01.2022 This little guy has worked out how to cool off!

01.01.2022 Well we have officially started our little Shetland stud..Toka Farm Shetlands. Starting off with our 2 little mares at the moment, Nintu Narra & Hyem House Camellia, they are both hopefully in foal to Bethen Fairlight, due Oct 2018. Nintu Narra (Pepper) has already given us one beautiful little colt by Bethen Fairlight. We are aiming to breed solid built, up to height (10.2hh) grey Shetlands with a good child friendly nature to add a few more registered grey Shetlands out &... about in Victoria. The kids & I are very excited about our little side venture (maybe not dad so much! )

01.01.2022 At that price we may have to start a cow cuddling company!
