24.01.2022 Workers wanted to start mid-December for MANGO SEASON. More details in Gumtree ad. If interested please email your CV to [email protected]

22.01.2022 Continuing our commitment to protect our guests, staff and community from COVID-19 and doing our part to flatten the curve. Yesterday we added new protocols to our already extensive list. If you have not read the measures we have been taking please refer to our previous posts. Again, we want to assure the community that we have NO CONFIRMED OR SUSPECTED CASES. Also we beg people to remember that most of the confirmed cases nation wide are Australian citizens returning from ov...erseas holidays and they are hopefully following self isolation procedures. As of yesterday, the 25th of March, we are temperature checking every guest on our premises twice daily. We are personally checking in with each guest to not only ensure they are following protocols and feeling well but also to offer emotional and compassionate support. Many of our guests are European and American, they are understandably extremely concerned for their families at this time. We are doing all we can to ensure they can keep regular contact with their family members during this crisis. We have placed further restrictions on our guests and are enforcing social distancing even when guests are on our property, which is considered their home. We have placed further restrictions on who is permitted on and off the property. We have reduced the number of people in each room by spreading them out utilizing previously empty rooms. As previously mentioned we have kept some rooms empty which can then become isolation rooms if we experience a suspected case. Staff who are still working have been instructed to limit their movements in the community as much as possible ie. Come from home to work and back, only essential shopping. This is in line with what the Government is asking ALL PEOPLE to do at this time.

17.01.2022 We understand there is great concern in our community with regards to the International Coronavirus Crisis and fingers are inevitably being pointed at travellers and backpackers. As we have said before, Tolga Backpackers has been monitoring and taking the threat of COVID-19 extremely seriously from the beginning. We have gone above and beyond to ensure every possible precaution and protocol is followed to protect the safety of our guests, staff and community. The following p...reventative measures have been in place at Tolga Backpackers: The vast majority of our guests have been with us for several weeks or months. And are all well. Many have been in Australia for a year already before coming to stay with us. No additional backpackers from outside the region have been permitted to lodge at Tolga Backpackers since early March. As a precaution temporary fencing and gates have been installed at both of our sites to limit traffic on/off the property. We have spoken with all of our guests and staff several times regarding the importance of adequate handwashing, sneezing/coughing etiquette and social distancing. More recently we have also requested our guests to limit their movements from home to work and only essential trips to town for shopping. This week we have advised our staff (who are all locals) that their jobs are safe throughout this crisis, and if they would prefer not to be at work we will support them in any way we can. Having reduced staff further limits traffic on and off our property. Lastly, as a precaution we have prepared suitable isolation rooms should they be required by any of our guests and have had our protocols commended by officials at the Department of Health who we have been liaising with since February. While we can completely understand the fear in our community at this time we ask that you remember Tolga Backpackers is a local business too, with a local family behind it. We hire locals and most of all we provide a workforce to our local farmers, the true backbone of our region. The simple fact is our farmers cannot stop and neither can we, but we have done absolutely everything in our power to do our part in flattening the curve and protecting lives.

17.01.2022 Firstly, we would like to thank everyone for their tremendous positivity in response to our status update last night. Unfortunately we are still being contacted with regards to rumours circulating within the community. We would like to make it abundantly clear- there is no confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19 at either of our hostel locations (2-4 Kennedy Hwy and 7 Sims Rd). All guests are well and we are taking absolutely every precaution to keep it that way. People mu...st understand that this virus is to be expected to spread. It is inevitable that there will be cases on the Tablelands. That is why it is so important that EVERYBODY (locals, foreigners, businesses small and large) do everything possible to flatten the curve. We are under no illusions that we need to prepare for the possibility that one of our guests will contract COVID-19. Please know we have protocols in place for if/when this situation occurs which have been not only approved by the Department of Health but set as the benchmark for other accommodation providers. The community should be aware of the devastating impact a confirmed case could have on our business so that you can understand how seriously we are taking this. In the event of a worst case scenario our location could go into complete lockdown. Meaning the workforce we supply to farmers stop and our guest's income stops. Aside from the fact our farmers desperately need workers to continue production and supply food to our nation, it would be unethical to expect our guests to continue to pay for lodging in the event of a full lockdown. Which means we could be providing accommodation for approx 170people for free, without our expenses stopping for an unknown period of time, potentially 4-6months. We would also have a duty of care to these guests to ensure they are safe, fed and accessing necessary medical care. Thats not to mention the emotional and psychological impact it would have on each of these people who are already scared and stranded away from their families. Some people may not know but we also have a young child of our own and family members who are considered in the "high risk" group who require extra protection. Please do not think that in any way we think of money over safety or are acting carelessly in this situation. Our livelihood and family has never been more on the line than they are now and we are reducing risk of exposure as much as we can. Instead of pointing fingers and spreading vicious rumours please we ask everyone to follow the advice from our Government. Stay at home. Limited your movements and contact with others. Follow social distancing recommendations. Wash your hands.

11.01.2022 Tolga Backpackers

11.01.2022 To limit traffic on and off our properties we have installed temporary fencing and gates. These will remain until further notice. We ask that the community not be alarmed. All of our guests remain well and we intend to keep it that way for as long as possible. It is our hope to continue supplying workers to local farms and avoid total lock down. Our guest have been asked to follow all safety precautions as recommended by the Dept of Health and limit their time in town to necessary shopping and appointments.

06.01.2022 It has been a busy week at Tolga Backpackers! We are continuing our commitment to flattening the curve of COVID-19 with our extensive procedures protecting our guest, staff and community. We are prepared for the unlikely event of community transmission and are continuing to closely monitor all of our guests. At this time we still have ZERO suspected cases. Our team want to thank everyone in the community for doing their part by staying at home as much as possible, we are all ...in this together! For now, it seems we have settled in to this new normal and its starting to feel almost like business as usual with our guests performing essential work on local farms. Stay safe everyone

03.01.2022 Tolga Backpackers is taking the threat of Coronavirus seriously. In the last few weeks we have been closely following the advice provided by the Australian Government Department of Health to ensure every step is taken to protect our guests, staff and community. We have preventive measures in place and protocols to follow should a guest become unwell. At this stage our hostel is at capacity and will be accepting no new guests. All of our current guests are well and are not su...spected to have been exposed to COVID-19 prior to checking in with us. Additionally most of our guest have been with us for longer than the 14day quarantine period. We are committed to ensuring the safety of our guests and are asking everyone to be cautious as well as follow all preventative measures, particularly regular handwashing.

02.01.2022 Tolga Backpackers wants to assure our community that we are taking the threat of Coronavirus seriously. The following preventative measures have been in place at Tolga Backpackers since 13th March: All but a handful of workers have been lodging with us for greater than 14 days, most of them have been with us for several weeks or even months. Having past the standard incubation period, they are considered safe.... Those few backpackers who have been in residence less than 14days were interviewed on arrival and are considered safe. None of these recent guests have travelled from an area with a confirmed case and therefore are considered not to be at risk of being exposed. No additional backpackers from outside the region will be permitted to lodge at Tolga Backpackers. We do not want to risk exposing our current guests or staff to COVID-19. We have spoken with all of our guests and staff regarding the importance of adequate handwashing, sneezing/coughing etiquette and social distancing. We have increased our signage and made information about COVID-19 available to all guests to make it very clear how seriously we are taking the risk and to encourage others to take it seriously as well. Additional duties have been added to daily cleaners’ rosters as an extra preventative measure. We urge our community to support each other during this difficult time and not engage in discriminatory behaviour. https://www.health.gov.au//coronavirus-covid-19-stop-the-s

02.01.2022 What a great start to the year we have had at Tolga Backpackers! We kicked of 2020 at capacity with every guest assigned to a job Our crews are working hard on local mango, lychee, banana farms and more! ... If you are interested in staying and working with us send us your resume and we can contact you when we have more beds and jobs available.

01.01.2022 Reviews- as always the negivite voices are loudest however we seem to be having a serious issue with people who have never stayed with us leaving negative reviews on Facebook and Google. Unfortunately we cannot remove these even though they are reviewing a different hostel in our area. If you have a moment we would really appreciate if you could leave us a positive review to better reflect our hostel and the services we provide. Hopefully more accurate and positive reviews will be able to outweigh the few negative ones.
