25.01.2022 These guys are growing up so fast

25.01.2022 We were all going a little crazy stuck at home, so the kids packed up the lawn mower and travelled to the out back of the house to our camp site.

25.01.2022 We are overflowing, have only seen the big dam overflow once since moving here. Ironically, water everywhere but pumps are out so can't have a hot showers or turn a tap on.

25.01.2022 My poor Opal ran into a fence yesterday. She did a good job on herself,ripping open across her belly and cut an artery. Glad we keep first aid kit in the car, grabbed a clean nappy and bandage to stop to bleeding and race off to the vet. After a night at the vet, a load off stitches with drain and a small fortune she is resting at home.

24.01.2022 Feeling rather self sufficient while in isolation. Honey from our bees and made jerky from our own bovine. Did make heaps of jerky but kids won't leave it alone.

24.01.2022 Trying someone new, this is the hide off one of our pigs we butchered. Have just finished fleshing and now ready for the tanning solution. If anyone has tips on fleshing, would love it here it as that is such a pain stating process.

22.01.2022 I love kerbside clean up for all the crap I bring home for free. Wire will make a extension to the pig pen or otherwise go to scrap metal. Either way someone's crap is my treasure.

22.01.2022 Pig hide is now in tanning solution for a week and have started work on what was Inky, our bull. Cow have much thicker skin than the . So have tried wire brush to flesh with and it so much easier and quicker.

21.01.2022 Just had a heart attack. Like snakes especially carpet snakes but this huge fella gave me the biggest fright when he pop put in my face while I was getting saddles out.

19.01.2022 New garden grey water filter system. I've had a few tries at a veggie garden but water has been the biggest problem. Our drinking water is to precious to be used on the garden. So here's to another, hopefully more successful attempt. From stuff laying around the yard, came up with bin half filled with layers of different courses of gravel and sand to try to filter out our grey water. No one like soap flavour veggies.

16.01.2022 This was a cob oven that we had made in the garden but sadly had collapsed one rainy season. We have been collecting hard clay from another project and letting it soak. How nice would it be to cook a pizza topped with garden goodness while still in the garden.

15.01.2022 Pumping out our beautiful mineral soap this week. This lot is 1/3 of a customer order that owns a inner city boutique, spearmint and kelp, pink grapefruit with pumice stone and mulberry. If you would like some of our handcrafted natural soaps for xmas, am now taking orders.

15.01.2022 You can't expect all your kids are going to like the same thing as you or want to continue the same lifestyle. But is sure nice when they do. Pixie is my child that says she wants to live here forever and try make some coins from our land. She loves it so much she has even decided that homeschooling is for her. Pixie has been busy raising chicks and gathering feathers along with some other little projects she has going on. She would like to set up a little shop to earn herself some pocket money. Also a great homeschooling learning opportunity. Will soon be adding new items to shop on this page of all her goods.

13.01.2022 Wow, what a night with the birth of 10 beautiful chocolate Kelpie puppies. Runty first time being a Mum and she is doing amazing job. Still can't believe 10 puppies, am so in love.

12.01.2022 Woke up early and out to check on the pigs and babies', to find our other girl had given birth during the night. Poor babies' scattered around the pen, looking half dead, cold and covered in mud with last night's rain. Gather her 7 babies' up, gave them a warm bath and a few had some warm milky water. One little baby died but all the rest are looking much more active now. Put both Mum's together since the second mum didn't seem to interested in her babies'. Thought having them together the first mum foster the others. After just checking on them again am happy to say both Mum's are now feeding all 11 babies' together.

10.01.2022 With all the bush fires around it makes you stop and think, how safe is your own home? Not sure our place would survive if a fire did come. Doesn't help being a wooden house on stilts at top of a hill surrounded by gumtrees. Never had we consider a sun catcher thing left on a table could be dangerous. Glad we noticed the scorched marks and it starting to smoke early.

09.01.2022 Forgot to shut the chook pen last night fox certainly had a good feed and I am kicking myself

08.01.2022 A little trimming around the edges and Inky will be all done. Feeling pretty happy with the effort at tanning/ making our first floor rug. Now time to get back to work on the hog skin.

08.01.2022 Am so happy with new filtered water, easier having water already in garden ready to go and bring the vegetable garden back to life. Days like these it's a pleasure to be outside.

07.01.2022 Inky's hide just has to dry and he'll be done. Can't wait to see the final product. The whole tanning process has been rather time and labour sum but we have enjoyed it and hopefully will be rewarded with a new lovely floor rug. A rug that will forever called Inky.

So far it's been 2 days an d haven't caught a single fly yet. Have some honeycomb and wrapping off ham in the trap. What do you find fly's are drawn to in your house?
