24.01.2022 On Wednesday evening 2020 CoRE (Centre of Resource Excellence) Show Case was held. Click on the link to find out more. https://www.tompriceshs.wa.edu.au/core-show-case/

24.01.2022 Our first Tom Price Senior High School CoRE Hub Showcase was packed, brilliantly adhering to COVID requirements For the CoRE Learning Foundation, it was our f...irst event that demonstrated our vision of CoRE Talent Pipeline - from year 5 through to year 9. In 3 years it will be to year 12 in 3 years The hall was packed with energised students sharing their work with proud parents and members from the Ashburton Shire Community. The student speeches beamed with their pride in their CoRE education and the fun they have experienced in #therealclassroom from Year 5 Ryley from North Tom Price Primary: "This year I have learned a lot about science in CoRE. It is a very fun subject. We have been building trains with electric circuits this term. I like working in teams on the project and helping our classmates. At first, we had to learn a lot about getting along but now we get along and work hard." This statement tugs at the essence of CoRE, it is a collaborative and inclusive learning environment which enables all our students to develop their STEM skills and achievement and most importantly within their relevant environment, so they can develop an understanding of their learning. This is a unique situation where the primary schools provide the students with the skilling and then in high school, they will be extended. Next year we welcome Paraburdoo Primary to this hub. We would like to thank our key sponsor Downer Group for supporting this event. #therealclassroom #CoREshowcase #CoRELearningModel #CoreExpansion #handsonlearning

The students from the three primary schools were split into eight groups and rotated around team building activities. The last session saw students participate in an Amazing Race around the school. This involved students getting different clues for around the school and completing a short challenge at the locations. We look forward to having the Year 6 students at Tom Price SHS in 2021. 07.01.2022 CoRE Students from Tom Price Senior High School were very fortunate to meet with Dr Diane Thompson from #Bioshpere2 over Zoom this week! Dr Thompson is the key ...professor for the Biosphere 2 Ocean project. Biosphere 2’s pièce de resistance is a 2.6 million litre marine tank, titled the Biosphere 2 Marine Mesocosm. The totally enclosed tank simulates a functioning marine ecosystem including a lagoon and coral reef. The project provides a unique opportunity to study variables such as gas exchange, nutrient concentrations and partial pressure of C02. Dr Thompson shared her knowledge and work with the Year 9 students as it applies to their PBL projects.
