20.01.2022 "And the truly beautiful thing was the graceful eucalypts outside and their mottled shade, their smell, the thrum of their taut barrel, bird-call and bark-rattle, their elegant leaves so many lazy scimitars, the odours of dust and sap, the powdery funk of the ants and the spiders and the caterpillars that lived both within and beneath their maternal canopy. It was a universe overwhelming, intoxicating, euphoric." - Richard Flanagan The Living Sea of Waking Dreams

06.01.2022 A severe fire danger is forecast for today Monday 5 October for the Ashburton Inland, East Pilbara Inland, East Pilbara Coast and West Pilbara Coast as very dry and windy southeasterly winds are forecast over the Pilbara district. If a fire starts and takes hold it will be unpredictable and move very fast. Spot fires will start and move quickly. Embers may come from many directions. WHAT TO DO:... Read through your bushfire survival plan. If you do not have one decide what you will do if a fire starts. If you are not prepared to the highest level, leave bushfire risk areas early in the day. This is your safest option. Homes that are prepared to the highest level, have been constructed to bushfire protection levels and are actively defended may provide safety. You must be physically and mentally prepared to defend in these conditions, this means you have the right equipment and resources to protect your home such as an independent water supply, petrol/diesel portable pump and protective clothing. Stay alert and watch for signs of fire, especially smoke and flames. Keep up to date with bushfire information through local radio, websites and your local community.
