18.01.2022 Loving your self (and your guts ) is such an important part of your holistic health and wellness. Sending you all self-loving vibes #Repost @drmarkhyman Cultivating greater self-love can improve everything from depression to addiction, anxiety, discontent, or numerous other unbeneficial feelings or states of disease. ... We just have to open ourselves up to the tools that are out there and be willing to dig deeper. Tapping into creativity and passion is one key component; another is slowing down and taking the time to meditate, reflect, and practice self-care. Music is another valuable resource that speaks to a unique part of us, and music therapy has even been shown to be more effective for depression when combined with psychotherapy than therapy alone. Then there is the practice of gratitude journaling, which can lower stress and improve a sense of calm. When we look at all the good things we have to be grateful for in our lives, it’s a lot easier to put the frustrating things into perspective. It also allows us to practice self-love, feel happier, and become more resilient. So many of these resources are at our disposal, any time of day, any day of the weekbut we have to realize their potential and prioritize their practice before the magic can happen. See more

17.01.2022 A little reminder as we roll into the weekend Our western culture is often so focused on the type of productivity that involves doing and achieving that rest can be viewed as laziness rather than a different type of productivity. Stress is one of the most widespread causes of dis-ease and while there are MANY causes, it can be self imposed due to this productivity pressure. ... We are completely guilty of this type of internal dialogue ourselves! Learning to listen to our bodies and know when rest is needed has certainly been something we have become better at but also have to manage too!!! Regardless of the cause of stress (and there are many!) it is especially detrimental to both gut and immune health. So if you’re feeling called to rest this weekend, do it! And know that it is truly just a different form of productivity Have a beautiful (and restful) weekend.

11.01.2022 So many health issues seem to originate in the gut. If the gut is healthy it is digesting, assimilating and elimination well and if this area is corrected the body tends to heal itself. Here is some more info on how our gut is connected to autoimmune responses from a functional nutrition perspective from the Functional Nutritionist The gut is comprised of numerous microbiota regulating and protecting the mucosal lining. ... When there is an imbalance, also known as dysbiosis, studies show this increases inflammation in the body and predisposes the body to autoimmune conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, celiac disease, lupus, type 2 diabetes, and multiple sclerosisjust to name a few. When the permeability of the gut lining has been altered, this allows toxins, bacteria, and foreign substances like food and antigens to enter the blood stream, causing something called "leaky gut." When this repeatedly occurs over time, excessive toxin overload triggers an initiation of autoimmune disease. Beneficial gut bacteria act as a protective lining to the gut mucosa that keeps foreign substances from entering when they shouldn't. When there is a change in the composition of the amount of good bacteria versus pathogenic bad bacteria, this affects the immune regulation of the gut, making it harder to fight off infections and easier to develop an autoimmune condition. Bone broth has been shown as one of the most effective foods to heal and seal this hyper permeability and along with correcting dysbiosis, can help to allow the body to have more appropriate immune responses! .

03.01.2022 Just had to share this awesome and insightful excerpt from The Dirt Cure by @drmayashetreat provided by the lovely @realfoodpathway - this one is on my ever growing to read list With each dollar you spend, you have the opportunity to help shape a world that you want to live in. We are an integral part of our terrain, and our terrain with all of its living components is an integral part of us. Yet we no longer actively engage in that connection.... Instead, we have outsourced the growing of our food to industry that has little interest in our internal or surrounding terrain. As a result, soil of commercial agricultural lands has been largely neglected and depleted. Just as we have unwittingly destroyed vital microbes in the human gut through overuse of medications like antibiotics and by eating highly processed foods, we have devastated soil microbiota through overuse of chemical fertilisers, fungicides, herbicides, pesticides, heavy tilling, and planting countless acres of monocrops with no diversity or rotation. Microbes are unable to do what they have done for millions of years conserve and cycle nutrients and water into plants, sequester toxins, and regulate the climate. We have sacrificed the abundant biodiversity in soil, microbes, and plants that ensures our health.
