I thought about being a mechanic, an historian, or even a landscape gardener. My Mum was a hairdresser, so I had spent plenty of time inside a salon. I saw an ad in the local paper asking, Do you want to make hairdressing your career?. So I guess the answer was yes, and I think it chose me. I joined Toni&Guy in this country 23 years ago, when it was still so new in Australia, it was a great opportunity. While working in London for Toni&Guy, I was privileged to become an Artistic Director and it was introduced by Anthony Mascolo himself. I was also the manager of the Toni&Guy flagship salon at Covent Garden, where I worked directly with Toni himself. I learnt so much from the Mascolo brothers. One time while I was educating at Salon international, whilst finishing and presenting my model I tripped and fell on stage as I was tangled up in the cords. This was in front of 1000 people with my microphone still on. Nothing proved more of how Australian I was when I swore in my most bogan accent. I won’t tell you what I said exactly (I’m sure you could guess) but I got a standing ovation as I pulled myself together and carried on! Pure professional, haha! Hairdressing has given me the most wonderful career. Travelling and living overseas with my skill-set, doing fashion show work, education, magazine and editorial work. My training challenged me to be the best. Owning my own salon for the past 18 years is where I am happiest, looking after clients and building relationships. The salon environment is exciting, bright and fun. I have worked with some of the best in the industry and now watching my staff achieve their own goals is so fulfilling."
