01.01.2022 How do Soft-Gel capsules dissolve? A capsule dissolves in about 1020 minutes. Faster if the stomach contents are warm and wet, slower if the contents are cold and/or not wet. Capsules start with well over 10% water content when dry and increase that rapidly when immersed in a wet environment. It takes about 1020 minutes for the matrix to soften, distort and disintegrate.... The water content of capsules is essential to their structure. If you remove it, both kinds of capsules will loose their strength and crack into fragments when you try to pick them up to swallow them.
