21.01.2022 A little story I wrote for the local show that would normally be on today. First prize in the ‘KATHERINE VIRTUAL SHOW 2020.’ The theme was of course, Isolation. Anzac Day In Isolation The morning star sparkled in the east as the sun spread her arms of salmon pink rays at the wispy clouds above. We walked out the gate with lighted candles and placed them on the driveway.... Our neighbours came into the semi dark on the other side of the road and one by one placed their candles on the cool grey sidewalk, clasped their hands and bowed their heads. A curlew called from the river as I turned the volume up on my speaker phone. The Last Post mournfully swept around us, lifting through the trees, gathering volume with the radio’s playing the dawn service across the town. The finches and honeyeaters twittered in the morning glow of stillness. As the bugle played the final notes and the rising sun sent its golden rays of warmth through the trees, I contemplated a world that had fought wars since time immemorial and today, we were fighting a war against an unrelenting enemy. It is our new normal. Will we gather in fifty years’ time at cenotaphs with an anthem and candles to remember the COVID 19 War of 2020 and the millions that lost their lives to the insidious virus of a pandemic? And with the going down of the sun, and in the morning We will remember them.

14.01.2022 Articles from the Bulletin and other magazines about the Tapp Family in 1980/1990. I rescued these in a wet box, after our house was flooded in the Katherine Australia Day Flood of 1998. I threw them out on the lawn for a few days to dry so some are a bit worse for wear.

07.01.2022 2020 NT WRITERS FESTIVAL POSTPONED TO 1-4 OCT Given the current circumstances surrounding #COVID19 and the new laws around travel and mass gatherings, it is ev...ident that we need to postpone the 2020 NT Writers Festival. While this has been a difficult decision, we are fortunate that we are in a position to reschedule the festival. When making this decision, the health and safety of our participating writers, staff, guests and patrons was paramount. We also took into account the need to preserve the program's artistic integrity, including its celebration of Australia's cultural and linguistic diversity. We look forward to sharing a thoughtfully curated program that preserves most of the original lineup, hopefully with a few exciting new additions, at the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens on these new dates: Thursday 1 October to Sunday 4 October 2020. The festival will still be four days of talks, readings, workshops and storied walks exploring the 2020 Festival theme, "Gunamidirra garawa birditj | when the tides turn." Ticket sales for the Early Bird All Panel Pass will be re-opened in August. If you have already purchased tickets to NTWF, you will be refunded in the coming days. We look forward to revealing our updated full program in late August. Until then, take good care of yourselves and others, especially friends and colleagues in the arts who may be facing difficulties in these precarious times. In particular, we would like to express our solidarity with our friends at Sydney Writers' Festival who have had to cancel their wonderful program. In the meantime, stay tuned for a reading list of works by some of the festival writers we had announced up on our website to help you stay occupied and to help support Australian authors.

02.01.2022 Book review from an old friend whom I had recently sent the books to. If you have lived in Katherine or Boroloola district's and haven't yet done it get hold of Toni Tapp Coutts two books. Sunburnt Childhood about growing up on Killarney. My Outback Life which tells of her time with husband Shaun and their kids on MacArthur River Station. She throws names around like a brand new mother in law throws confetti. I felt like I was there. Shit I know him. I remember when he....... I sometimes wanted to comment like here on the post. I cursed the one about Killarney when I had a feed about 4pm (reading it) and reckoned I would have a smoke and then clean up the dishes. Next thing the sun went down. The dishes hadn't been cleaned and Bill Tapp had just bought Roper Valley. Great read Toni. Good on you!!!!
