25.01.2022 Great to meet with the newly established Army Cadets Unit 427ACU Naracoorte last night. There are more than 14,000 Army cadets based in 224 units around Australia learning to be confident, self-sufficient and - in great Aussie spirit - willing to have a go. Fantastic to have a unit now in Naracoorte!



25.01.2022 The Government is taking real steps to secure Australias long-term fuel supply. Fuel Security underpins our entire economy. We are taking important steps to ensure that Australians can access the fuel they need, when they need it. This includes a $200 million investment in new local fuel storage facilities to increase our resilience and protect customers.

24.01.2022 Keeping Australia Safe. The Migration Amendment (Prohibiting Items in Detention facilities) Bill 2020 will give Australian Border Force officers the powers to search and seize illegal drugs and other items in detention facilities if they put safety and security at risk. Last night, Labor voted against the law that seeks to keep Australians safe from paedophiles, violent extremists and other criminals.

21.01.2022 Speaking in Parliament today I reiterated the importance of regional shows and field days for communties. Our Government is supporting these organisaions through the pandemic with a $39 million package.

20.01.2022 This week our Government introduced legislation to implement the waste export ban agreed by Australian Governments in March and reform the Product Stewardship Act 2011. This will phase in the end of the 645,000 tonnes of unprocessed plastic, paper, glass and tyres that Australia ships overseas each year!! 20.01.2022 Great to meet with our local Employment Facilitator Christine and talk about her role and the Local Jobs Program launched by our Government last week. Through the program, Christine will be working with employers and other key local stakeholders in Barker to develop solutions at a local level to get Aussies back into work. 20.01.2022 Despite Federal Government Fundng of $1.52 million the Holder Top Road intersection at Waikerie is still missing a crucial safety component - a left hand turn slip lane. I updated the Parliament yesterday on this issue.



19.01.2022 Round 4 of the Federal Governments Smart Farms Small Grants program are now open! Farmers, fishers and foresters can now apply for funding of up to $100,000 to support their natural resource management efforts. Round 3 of this program saw almost $200,000 go to organisations in Barker to boost best practice sustainable farming awareness, skills and capacity. 18.01.2022 Like Mens Sheds across the country, the Southern Barossa Mens Shed is a vital part of the local community and a critical avenue for social support and engagement for its members. This Mens Shed in Williamstown has recently been successful in a grant application for Federal government funding to make improvements to the shed. Great to pop in and check out the plans today.

17.01.2022 Today the Minister for Water, Keith Pitt MP, announced a new $234.2 million Murray Darling Communities Investment Package to keep the Basin Plan on track while ruling out water buybacks. 14.01.2022 Shopping local and supporting small businesses is always important but the pandemic has made it even more so. I spoke to the Minister for Small Business, Michaelia Cash, about the Go Local First campaing and how we can get on board to support the 23,000 small businesses in Barker.

13.01.2022 The JobKeeper extension has now passed Parliament. JobKeeper is supporting more than 3.5 million workers & is an economic lifeline for around 1 million businesses- including at least 3,700 in Barker. JobKeeper is a crucial part of our economic plan & its extension for 6 months will give confidence, certainty & hope to millions of Australians.

11.01.2022 This week is Legacy Week. While much emphasis is put on our Veterans and ensuring that those who served and the sacrifices made are never forgotten, this week is an opportunity to show our support for the widows and children whose loved ones have served our country. Legacy begun in 1923 and now supports 52,000 partners and children of veterans who gave their lives or health serving our country. This week I wear this badge to show my support for the organisation and all the families that have been impacted by war.

10.01.2022 Ive been honored over the last couple of days to present commemorative medallions to World War Two veterans in Mount Gambier. Kelvin Smibert, Jack Hopgood, Joe Flavel, Isobel Phillips, Roen Lynn and Charlie Miller all played a part in the war that changed our nation forever and we are forever grateful for the sacrifices made. The commemorative medallion is a small way to say thank you and honor the members of our community that served to protect our nation.

09.01.2022 Last week the Government announced a package of initiatives to improve the implementation of the Murray Darling Basin plan including scrapping buy backs, undertaking major infrastructure upgrades and improving governance compliance and transparency. 09.01.2022 HAVE YOUR SAY Our Government has asked the ACCC to conduct a three-month inquiry into bargaining power in supply chains for perishable agricultural products in Australia. It will take a broad look at trading practices throughout supply chains, including the relationships between farmers, processors and retailers. I met with Mount Gambier Harness Racing Club Inc. today congratulate the club on $10,840 for a new 10.2kw Solar system.

06.01.2022 Great day spent in the Southern Barossa speaking to businesses about economic recovery after Covid. Many of these businesses are reliant on tourism so international and state travel restrictions have been really tough. The good news is that recent data from Tourism Research Australia shows that domestic tourism is bouncing back, with interstate and intrastate visitation increasing more than 77% between May and June. Great news for regions like the Barossa. #RegionalTourism

06.01.2022 Great news for our aged care sector! The Federal Government is providing an additional $563.3 million to extend support for the aged care sectors response to COVID-19. This brings the total support to senior Australians in Aged Care to over $1.5 billion since the pandemic began.

05.01.2022 FUNDING FOR FORESTRY The summer bushfires impacted 130,000 hectares of plantation forests and about 2 million hectares of public native forest available for timber production. This has impacted the industry Australia wide, including here in the Green Triangle. Our Government is supporting our Forestry industry with $40 million in grants available to deliver innovation and industry diversification for longterm success. 04.01.2022 Thanks to Allendale East Area School for inviting me to take part in their civic and citizenship class yesterday! There was some robust debate on the (classroom) floor of the House of Representatives during the role play - to ban homework or not!

04.01.2022 A local community Mens Sheds worth is priceless. The value they add to their local region and health benefits to their members is immeasurable. Our Government has delivered new fundraising potential for Mens Sheds right across the nation with the passage of legislation creating a category of Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status for Sheds. This means donations can attract an income tax deduction when donating $2 or more to a local Shed, giving Sheds more fundraising capacity!

04.01.2022 Weve officially opened the new Berri Cottage Homes multi-function centre today! This million dollar facility is a fantastic investment in the Riverland. The Federal Government contributed $425,000 through the Building Better Regions Fund because we know that better infrastructure and increased services make for stronger, more resilient communities into the future.

03.01.2022 Local river communities in Barker know all too well that water buybacks hurt communities. The MurrayDarling Basin Economic Development Program is supporting economic development projects in identified communities impacted by historical water recovery under the Basin Plan. I informed the house this week that six local communities in Barker will share in almost $3.8 million through the program.
