21.01.2022 And the hard work begins...now that breeding season is over, school is in for our babies! http://www.tonypeacockharnessracing.com//focus-now-on-youn

20.01.2022 It’s Monday which normally means HERO Horse of the Week. But today we’re changing things up. Recently, there has been a lot of interest in Standardbreds for end...urance riding so we thought we’d explore the discipline a little bit further. We have always believed that there is great potential for HERO graduate horses to make a splash in the field of Endurance. The fitness training that Standardbreds undertake while in race work provides the perfect foundation upon which to build an endurance career. The breed is accustomed to long, steady miles in harness and this education can easily translate under saddle. Standies generally bring an excellent work ethic and a genuine enjoyment of having a job. HERO is regularly offered the opportunity to work with young horses which have retired 100% sound from racing due simply to a lack of ability. Their calm disposition and ability to cope with new and unusual environments and experiences is also a great asset (particularly when all important heart rates are being monitored) together with their iron constitution. In the Endurance world, there is a heavy emphasis on animal welfare. Health checks are regular and stringent, ensuring that only equine athletes at the peak of their physical powers are permitted to participate and/or continue. Standardbred bloodlines have been prevalent in Endurance for many years, although more traditionally through cross breeding with Arabs. It is only in latter times that those with a love of long distance riding have become more open to competing on freeze branded Standies coming off the track. New South Wales horsewoman Jacque Thoms has been flying the HERO Endurance flag proudly with her retired trotter Kyvalley Toyboy, aka Ted. They are pictured completing their latest 40 kilometre event two weeks ago. Another beautiful image by Animal Focus Photography. Ted was a little hotter than your average Standardbred when he turned his back on racing after just three dismal race starts. But under Jacque’s expert guidance the six-year-old gelding is developing into a brilliant Endurance mount. Emma Kruger is another enjoying Endurance riding with her very special HERO graduate Delight Brigade Nz, aka Roy. A winner of 13 races and $156,000 in prizemoney as a pacer, Roy is embracing his new career with great gusto at age 11 and despite the fact that he has only one eye. HERO is looking forward to attending the Victorian Endurance Riders Association’s Free Education Seminar at Bolinda this Saturday, April 6, from 10am. We welcome the opportunity to discuss the HERO Program and the suitability of our current retraining team for endurance. Rumour has it a couple of HERO Program ambassadors might be in sneaky training for a little dabble in entry level Endurance in the not to distance future too. Watch this space!

19.01.2022 I had a visit from my racing owners Merv & Meg Butterworth today. They hadn't seen me for about a year and it's fair to say they were kinda impressed by what I was able to show them. Don't mind this family photo, I reckon I look pretty damn handsome.

17.01.2022 A great photo of Ken Ward with his Auckland Reactor weanling foal

17.01.2022 Surprise!! Last week Thoroughbred owners and breeders Mike and Sarah Hoffman had been checking on their mare Dakota Red, anxiously waiting to foal out their fir...st mare at their own property. On Friday, they checked in the early evening, then went back out for another check and got a huge shock! Red was up and had one foal beside her, and another was lying down back in the straw! Both fillies got up and were doing well, but the smaller of the two needed a little help figuring out how to reach up and nurse. Mike gave her assistance to help her for the first few hours until she got a little more strength and now she's got it figured! She even pushes her sister out of the way while they nurse together! Live, healthy twins are incredibly rare, and only 1 in 10,000 mares deliver twins safely. It's been two days, and the little family is happy and all are healthy! Congratulations to Mike and Sarah and good luck to twin fillies "Anything You Can Do" "I Can Do Better"!!

06.01.2022 Today is a first for Team HERO. A picture speaks a thousand words. And never have we ever! We can only assume the very sweet Miss Jacky, a new addition to the HERO family, was a little bit of a wriggler as a foal. Good Lord how did that happen!
