25.01.2022 Great example of Community - Seville Township Group - and Yarra Ranges Council working together for the benefit of all. A great pity in this case it's to fix some disgusting vandalism to the oldest War Memorial in Seville - the CWA Seville War Memorial Bus Shelter.
24.01.2022 Tremendous work from many Friends of the Helmeted Honeyeater over decades has saved the Helmeted Honeyeater - from less than 50 birds 32 years ago, to 240 in the wild now. Thank you to all environmental volunteers who work hard to improve our local flora and fauna.
24.01.2022 With the urgent need to connect more people with nature, I am delighted to see Phillip Johnson Landscapes designer of the first and only Australian garden to win the prestigious Best in Show at the Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show well on the way to recreating and expanding his award-winning, sustainable design in the Dandenong Ranges Botanic Gardens. This incredible design is not only a stunning display of Australian native plants, including rare and enda...ngered natives from Gondwana, it is an exemplar of sustainability with water-wise design and habitat creation. Phillip's garden brings together horticultural science, breathtaking aesthetics, and a deep desire to connect people to the unique qualities of Australian nature. As the centrepiece of the Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden, the Chelsea Best in Show Garden, will showcase to visitors from far and wide what's possible with native gardening, science and sustainable practices, even in our increasingly urban environments. Phillip explains, "When Europeans came to Australia they replicated European gardens, which is reflected in many of our Botanic Gardens to this day. But with our changing climate, these traditional gardens are increasingly difficult to sustain. We want to develop and promote beautiful Australian natives that will survive and thrive in a sustainable way, in varied and challenging conditions. Our Chelsea Best in Show Garden shows what's possible in a breathtaking way. We want everyone to experience the amazing, unique variety of Australian natives, to be connected to Australian nature, no matter where they live." A project of this size involves many partners and supporters. As a start, Phillip and his team have signed up Parks Victoria and the People and Parks Foundation. They've received seed funding of $1 million from the Victorian Government and also philanthropic support. There's still more funding needed. If you can contribute you can make a tax deductible donation via this link. http://peopleandparks.org/proje/chelsea-best-in-show-garden All donations $2 or more to the People and Parks Environment Trust and People and Parks Health Trust are tax deductible in Australia.

18.01.2022 Now more than ever it’s important to look after your family and yourself. Please don’t put off important immunisations.
17.01.2022 We're very fortunate in Yarra Ranges to have a great variety of playgrounds which are now open once again. Check out Mamma Knows East for any within your 5km (Thank you Mamma Knows East for putting together these informative reviews). The list also offers many ideas of where you can plan to go when the 5km restrictions are relaxed when Metro Melbourne moves to Step 3. Details of Reopening Roadmap are available here... https://www.vic.gov.au/coronavirus-covid-19-reopening-roadm See more
17.01.2022 I love magpies but worry about them swooping. Just some protective fathers swooping while their chicks are in the nest. It will only last a few weeks. Take care. (via ABC Science)
16.01.2022 151 local sporting clubs in Yarra Ranges have received financial support from the State Government's Community Sport Sector Short-term Survival Package. This is the second highest level of support in the state, exceeded only by Greater Geelong who have 56% more people than Yarra Ranges. I appreciate the efforts of Yarra Ranges Council's Recreation and Active Living Team who reached out to all local community sporting clubs and helped them to apply for these essential funds. T...he community sport sector has been heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This short-term survival program is designed to support the ongoing operational viability of the community sport and active recreation sector throughout the COVID-19 shutdown period and beyond, ensuring organisations are equipped to recommence the delivery of their activities to the community following the lifting of restrictions. https://sport.vic.gov.au//community-sport-sector-coronavir
16.01.2022 Today is R U OK? Day. A time to check on those we haven't spoken to in a while or to listen to those doing it tough. Look after yourself. You are important and people care, it's just that life can distract and disconnect us. Please make the time to reconnect - a conversation could change a life. In 2020, it is even more important than ever to reach out and show someone there are people who care.... Resources and advice are available for all ages at www.ruok.org.au
15.01.2022 Thank you to Isabelle (8) for her recent letter and drawing asking for a safer road crossing in Wandin North. Well done Isabelle for speaking up for your community. I agree with Isabelle, pedestrian signals are needed in Wandin North to make the Rail Trail crossing safer. That's why I've been advocating through Council to the Victorian Department of Transport for this important safety improvement. There are two remaining non-signalised rail trail crossings on the Warburton H...ighway. We will keep pushing to get them done. One of Council's Traffic Engineers has already responded to Isabelle letting her know that Council is in contact with the road owner, Department of Transport.
14.01.2022 Eastern Metropolitan Partnership - 2020 Engagement The Eastern Metropolitan Partnership was established by the Victorian Government in 2017 as a way for local communities to engage directly with state and local governments and advise the Victorian Government of the top priorities across the region. The Partnership has delivered significant improvements in Yarra Ranges - just some of the many things funded are:... * Growing Suburbs funding which has supported Yarra Ranges Council's initiatives in improving gender equity in sport * Pick my project - improvements in Olinda at the pool, and lights for Lilydale Dog Park (at the lake) * School improvements at Monbulk College and Montrose Primary (among many) * Improvements around public transport such as Mooroolbark and Belgrave Train Station Car Parks. Just some examples to show that your input can shape State Government Policy. This year's survey will focus on: Your experience of living more locally Understanding how your business is dealing with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic What support your business needs to ensure resilience and recovery. Complete the survey below to share your experience as a business owner in the Eastern Region. https://engage.vic.gov.au/eastern-metropolitan-partnership

06.01.2022 Something to look forward to these school holidays and as the weather warms up. All of the COVID Safe rules apply including visiting water parks if they're within your 5KM. It won't be too much longer before the weather is even warmer and hopefully Step 3 restrictions kick in which means everyone will be able to enjoy the water parks.
06.01.2022 The Victorian Government is inviting contributions on a survey throughout September to assess the impacts of COVID-19 on local communities, as well as the planning opportunities offered during recovery. Residents are asked what could be done better to support people, especially vulnerable community members, what positive effects have arisen from people living more locally and what changes and support should be prioritised during recovery and after the pandemic. Priorities id...entified will be used to inform the guidance offered to the Government through the Metropolitan Partnerships program. 01.01.2022 Edit 2 Oct 2020 - It's been 11 days and Facebook still won't change this page name. So it's staying as it is. The best way to keep up-to-date is to visit my website. www.tonystevenson.com.au Hello, this page name is changing to Re-Elect Tony Stevenson - Walling Ward, YRC Why? I have nominated for the 2020 Local Government Elections in Walling Ward, where I have lived with my wife and children for the past 15 years. It's been a pleasure to serve as Chandler Ward councillor ...(2016-2020) and Mayor (2019) but it's time to represent the area I live in. More news to come.
