22.01.2022 A new wood to try, camphor laurel, it's REALLY pungent and smells of menthol but has a gorgeous multi coloured grains.

21.01.2022 A custom job for a museum. 2 different models 3d scanned and then merged together. Carved in jelutong wood. Carving took about 15 hours as the tools are so much shorter than for carving foam. Loads of chances to gouge and stuff it up. Just hardware to add now. Oh, and to vacuum myself free of sawdust.

20.01.2022 Ready to Launch!! Available only to Canberrans (this month). Get a beautiful 3D face carving with the 3D scanning included in the price. Released in batches of 10 to ensure you get your carving within 2 weeks of scanning.... https://www.toolsbyhollie.com/on/3d-Face-Carving-p221349113

20.01.2022 This is my favorite wood of all. Tasmanian Huon Pine. It's a beautiful yellow with slight grain and carves beautifully.

14.01.2022 This is a beautiful wood to machine. Jarrah, very hard and heavy.

13.01.2022 Saturday's work. I have another piece on the machine, taking a little while as it's using a 1/32 finishing bit. The girl and the dove are both maple. I need to wax and polish these when the danish oil has dried. The owl is gold leaf painted jelutong wood.

12.01.2022 Oh look, I really DO have a flat butt.

11.01.2022 Beautiful horsey. The plank is 295mm wide. Photo after sanding then linseed oil added.

08.01.2022 Ball Gown Post #1 The time has come.. the event I've been training my entire sewing life. I HAVE A BALL TO GO TO!!! In only three weeks. EEEEEEEEEEEEK. This is the dress I'm going to replicate. I tried my hardest to find some silk wool in this gorgeous green colour but the only place that has it is Mood Fabrics and they are pretty slow at International shipping and processing online orders. Plus it's about $100 Aus a metre.... I've settled on this red and will be making it without a pattern by draping on my Sew Sister. I'll use the dull side for the skirt and bodice and the shiny side for the bow and shoulder wrap. It's a Black Tie event so I hope it isn't too over the top.

07.01.2022 Ladies, I've recently joined a woodworking forum. I have to let you know, while you're off buying fabric in secret or telling your husband it cost 1/5th of what it actually does, they are doing the exact same thing with their power tools. It's kind of funny.

07.01.2022 Ball Gown Post #3 Removal of the tape! Comments on each photo.

04.01.2022 Can't resist posting this from Sydney Spoolettes page. I'm a little confused though, surely you don't need pants for "action"?

02.01.2022 So you remember the red dress I was making? I had a change of heart, mainly because I didn't have the right material to make the skirt really stiff. Plus it was a sit down dinner which would make it difficult to put all that bulk under the table. So last Saturday I dived into my stash and saw this fabric which I had bought at the Sydney Frocktails day at The Fabric Store - New Zealand. I actually had it saved for a coat.... Mad sewing on Saturday, away and busy until Friday evening. Sewing until 2pm. Then sewing from 6 am till 3.30 pm! I also managed to make a "it will do" tulle underskirt from 3.30 - 4pm. I'm actually glad I didn't use this for a coat as the threads snap easily with friction, so it's most likely a one event dress. I can't wait to find another ball to go to just so I can make another one but I'll do the next one with heaps of time to spare. I was lucky I had used this patter previously so I knew it fitted well. I actually applied really good techniques, I had wanted to do couture methods but seriously no time. At the very end the lining had running stitch to attach to the zip. That's the only thing I skimped on but can go back and redo. During the construction, my Janome MMC6600 fuse blew, and then the screen of my Bernina B 780 died. I could still use it but only straight stitch as everything is digital. Luckily I had my 20 yr old Brother cheap sewing machine that I had serviced a year ago that I could use with a zipper foot. (Thanks old faithful , sorry to have neglected you)

02.01.2022 15% off this weekend on everything in my store. Code: HANDMADEVIRTUAL toolsbyhollie.com/online-store

01.01.2022 Expressions of Interest. Do you have an interest in 3D Scanning? Have you heard of Photogrammetry? You can create your own 3D object for 3D printing, conservation or adding assets to games and Virtual Reality. No expensive equipment needed, just a camera. If you'd like to learn Photogrammetry in Canberra pop your name down below and I'll let you know the dates of the short course.

01.01.2022 Cute chamelian. Lastminute gift for a Canberra dad? $160. Australian backwood. 21cm wide.

01.01.2022 Ball Gown Post #2 While I wait for my fabric to arrive I'm starting with the corset . I should have some Shapewell and definitely have red lining already. If I have time I will make it with proper couture methods. I'll try use organza as an under lining and a waist stay, Horse hair braid and an invisible hem. I might even do an extra petticoat.... I'm making it on my "skinny" Sew Sister and have lots of sit ups planned for the next 20 days. I'll comment on each of the photos. ***PLEASE*** If anyone can see a better method or a way to improve the way I am making it, your opinions and contributions are more than welcome.
