25.01.2022 John Oars STX550 has been recently fitted with a new set of LSW1250s and is pulling his TOOMEY 4000B in a stormwater sump project in Townsville, North Queensland. Recent rains had made it very difficult to keep digging in the hole but the TOOMEY buckets handles the conditions in its stride. The design of this pond has been installed into LEVELGUIDE 3/D dual antenna gps control system. This Ag 3/D system can be used very effectively in these civil construction projects beca...use it has both automatic elevation and cross slope control. The LEVELGUIDE system compensates for the lean of the bucket on the batter which makes it a very versatile tool in all applications - for agriculture and civil construction.
25.01.2022 We get asked how long the greaseless SKF bushes and high tensile, induction hardened, chromed pins in the pivots of the buckets could be expected to last. Well, here we have the center pivot pin and bushing in an early 4450B thats done a lot of hard work building channels and water storages. Its come in for some upgrades and minor chassis cracks (these weaknesses have been fixed in the later C Series which were based on this 4450B) and we decided to completely strip it down... and check everything out while it is here. There have been a few random photos shared of this bucket on its side and in some rugged positions over the years so it hasnt had an easy life. Well......... The pins are perfect, not a mark of wear. It appears that one dust seal was damaged at the time of installation and dirt find itself way in there and scuffed up the surface but apart from that, this bushing has hardly any wear at all.. This location on the bucket would have the most movement and the heaviest load of any pivot in the bucket so Id say that these bushes are doing ok!
25.01.2022 A 4500B heading off to Ayr, North Queensland. No flying to commission this bucket, a 14 hour road trip instead... This is the first 4500B with the apron spill guard fitted. This is there to protect the Danfoss valve and pipe work from clods of heavy material falling over the front of the apron when using the teeth edges.
25.01.2022 Keep the photos coming in! Brendans bucket is a very early ALG4500 and its still hard at work. Apparently, his uncle is operating their new 4500C and wont stop long enough to take photos!
25.01.2022 A little more work on the mini B bucket today. Trial fitting the new style rocker assembly to see how it looks - and it looks pretty good actually! Next step is shrinking the machined ends of the axle shafts into the rocker arms and welding them in but thats a job for another day.... Its a high tensile, induction hardened and chromed shaft rotating in an SKF carbon fibre bushing with Hardox450 fixed shims on either side to take the side load away from the edge of the bush..with a multi-sided boss that fits into the rocker arm and all held together by cap screws. I just love experimenting to see what improvements can be made! We may even think about using this style of pivot in the full-size buckets one day - time will tell! This is what R&D is all about...
24.01.2022 Todays job was loading two 5200Bs into containers. This pair of buckets is heading to another project in the Republic of South Sudan. After lifting in the front cross beam, apron and the bowl assembly into the container, theres not a lot of room left at the end of it to stack the miscellaneous pallets stacked with hydraulic cylinders, cutting edges, spares, tractor towbars and their carriers.... Another good job for Thommo??
24.01.2022 Pierre is training a new operator, the 15 year old son of his neighbour. Yes, playing with dirt is a great education!
24.01.2022 Thanks to Rick for sending this video through. The 4500C LGP seems to be handling the soft ground in the Mississippi Delta without much fuss. The are only two points of improvement they would like made on the next models.... Firstly, they’d like a higher front cross beam for extra ground clearance in these high water table conditions. We don’t have much of this type of soil conditions in Australia so this was always going to be a good test for it. Secondly, they’d like a slightly wider cut to 14 feet cutting edge width. The 4500C was designed around our Aussie transport rules for a single pilot vehicle. This gave the 4500 a cut width of 13 feet, 8 inches. So, we will make the new USA version of this bucket and call it the 1400C and it will have a 14 feet cutting edge width and trim at just over 15 feet wide, 4 inches width. Otherwise they can’t find fault with how it works and I’m told (just quietly) there’s been a few disagreements over who gets to operate it...
24.01.2022 A new 4000B was commissioned last week and the first job it had was pulling down a huge stockpile to spread across the bottom of the adjacent field. They were obviously going to take it rather steady during this particular job but primarily it will be used for trimming the fields that they have had laser levelled over many years.
23.01.2022 Aussie ingenuity and efficiency breaking through in Arkansas. Its always interesting to see the range of reactions we get to new concepts. Great work guys!
23.01.2022 An overview of the Toomey Earthmover unit.
21.01.2022 Pierre sent another short video this morning. He has two (2) of his 3500Bs stripping topsoil and levelling sub grade and the little 3100A levelling and trimming the topsoil. They are a pretty effective combination is what he tells me.
21.01.2022 The next TOOMEY 4500B to leave the factory is going to yet another exotic location around the world - this one is heading to Khartoum in Sudan, Africa to work in a big agricultural project there. Just thinking about it, the only one of the 7 continents left to get the first of many TOOMEY buckets into now is South America (I dont think Antartica counts as a continent in this scenario and there is a scientific debate about whether an 8th continent exists!).
21.01.2022 A little more development on the GPS side of the TOOMEY ECS-2 Elevation Compensation System. There is now a TOOMEY GNSS Base Station powered by Precision Technologies that goes hand-in-hand with the ECS-2 Elevation Compensation System. Combined with the RM RTK Module, we now have a complete RTK package with elevation compensation which uses the latest Novatel 7 GNSS solution.... A quick look at the numbers shows 26 available satellites and a VDOP of 1.0 which is fairly typical for this part of the world. With another upgrade we could add a lot more satellites but at this stage, these numbers provide a very tight elevation solution. The display is a new Ruggedised 13 inch touch screen tablet from Winmate with the new Precision Technologies Levelguide V6.0 3/D control software installed.
20.01.2022 Images of the new 2020 4500-C TOOMEY Construction Earthmover. There are a number of major upgrades to the previous model 4500C which include; - The front cross beam has been raised to increase ground clearance to 550mm (22 inches) in the trimming position.... - The front pull has been lengthened which will reduce the weight transfer to the tractor. There are now thicker pivot and cylinder mounting plates in this front pull frame and a wider junction at the cross beam. - The rippers get thicker shanks (from 32m to 40mm). - The front sidewalls are raised to increase "struck"capacity while the heaped capacity is also increased with higher racks to hold more material without it spilling onto the rear frame. - Standard tire package is now 23.5x25 Bias Ply with optional 26.5x25 for LGP applications. Radials also available on request. - NEW Offset Rocker geometry for even better stability. - NEW style rocker pivot construction with low maintenance SKF bushes and thrust washers (no spherical bearings) with all easily replaceable parts (no welded components to cut out). - Rear frame gussets and torsional bracing added to increase rigidity when working on large side slopes (water storages and drains etc.). - More spill protection with a NEW double thrash rack at the back of the bowl and an improved apron rack to protect the hydraulic valves on the front cross beam. ... and a few more minor tweaks ... These changes will definitely make the "C" Series a much better earthmover in the construction environment but it will be just as efficient in field work and general levelling operations. The price has also increased, but then again, exceptional quality and performance will always comes at a cost! For more information, please ring Roger on 0427 182 796 or leave a message on our board.
19.01.2022 Pierre Douineau has recently delivered this new 3100A to a customer in the east of France.
19.01.2022 Just another day at the office for Brendan and his crew. STX550 and 4500C in water storage construction.
18.01.2022 Pierre has just sent me these photos of his 3000A working in France.
18.01.2022 Good morning all! A clear, cool start to the first working day of the week after a weekend of nice rain. Today the first outside job is loading a new 3500B into a container for Pierre in France with a brisk westerly blowing. ... That will make things pleasant for those lucky enough to be outside tasked with that project....it was only 8C coming down here this morning. This is mid-winter on the Gold Coast!
18.01.2022 The official word from BOM is that a La Nina event is heading our way in Australia. This means wetter weather .... and wetter growing conditions. Maybe it’s time to consider getting a Toomey bucket to start fixing up your cropping areas for improved water management, drainage and controlled run-off in combination with a 3/D GPS control system.... It’s never to late to start!
17.01.2022 The 4000B is cutting down on the batter while being controlled by the Levelguide 3/D system.
17.01.2022 Three TOOMEY 3500B buckets working together in France. It will be a good photo when the next two coming soon join these three for a photo op... one 3500B is on the water now and the brand new narrower 3000B is nearly completed.
15.01.2022 Assembly of the 4500C in Arkansas is nearing completion.
14.01.2022 The big box getting opened up in Jonesboro, Arkansas! I heard getting it all out was like extracting teeth but it eventually all came out. I knew that would be like that as we had fun getting it all to fit in there in the first place! The fun part now begins...
13.01.2022 The guys at INFINITE AG have put enough faith in the TOOMEY ejection concept that they have invested in a new 4500C which is arriving shortly. The TOOMEY B and C Series buckets all have this unique ejection system which is basically best described as a tipping bowl with an inbuilt swinging tailgate - all models from the 10 feet cut 3500B that trims at 11 feet overall to the big 16 feet cut 5200B which trims at near 17 feet. At first glance, this action might appear complex b...Continue reading
13.01.2022 Pierre is always happy to share what he does!
12.01.2022 The camerman needs some other place to rest his finger but we have a record of the first few runs with the 4500C LGP in Arkansas. Check out the speedo in the truck!
11.01.2022 INFINITE AG is the TOOMEY EARTHMOVERS Dealer for the Mississippi Delta in the USA. They will be taking delivery of their first 4500C in the next day or so and it will be assembled near their shop in Jonesboro, ARKANSAS. Once assembled, it will be hooked to one of Rick Esleys tractors and put out to work - weather permitting! Over the next few days, we are going a post a few videos and photos on the individual functions on the TOOMEY buckets for those of you who are existing ...Continue reading
10.01.2022 A little project to replace a bent mouldboard and upgrade the hydraulic cylinders and doing all the fab associated with that allows us to do a bit of yard grading to test out the work when the job was completed. I built this particular little blade many years ago and we made a sister for it a year or so ago (someone will remember the little aircon cab Deere in an earlier post). The new one worked so good that when they bent the mouldboard, it was a good excuse to make it t...he same as the newer one... Nice job, Jezza!
07.01.2022 For a bunch of newbies, Rick and the guys at Infinite Ag are doing a great job! Rick came to Tulare a few years back to see the one we have in California and wanted one ever since. This is the first time JW and Garret have ever laid eyes or hands on this jigsaw puzzle and so far everything seems to be in the right place!... Keep it up guys!
06.01.2022 Pierre, here is your next 3500B getting packed into a container ready to leave the factory today on its way to France.
06.01.2022 Bretts 4000B now has a new 520 Versatile to tow it around.
05.01.2022 The Toomey buckets all fitted with these parallelogram rippers with sheer pins. They are purposely mounted in the front of the bucket for a few reasons; Firstly, the operators can see what job the rippers are doing when they are in the ground and they can then control the height of the bucket to get the required result. Typically, the bucket is fully raised and the rippers fully lowered. The bucket is then lowered and the height ofthe bucket is then used as the depth control... for the rippers. However, they can also be used while grading or final trimming to scratch up the surface if it is required - like when the ground is hard and shiny after all the loose soil has been cut away and the blade may not cut what is left. Maybe, you just want the surface to be broken like the rest of the field. In this situation, while trimming along, you simply lower the rippers gently into the ground to the depth required to break the surface and then raise them up once they have done the job that was required. From a design perspective, having the ripper assembly built into the front pull frame lengthens the distance the load (that bowl full of dirt) is from the tractor compared to shorter frame scrapers with no rippers. This geometry produces a reduced weight transferred to the tractor from these buckets compared to the shorter scrapers. The notable benefit here is that bigger payloads can be carried by the bucket with this extended chassis and by default, shorter scrapers can be much heavier on the tractor carrying less of a load. From an operators perspective, having rippers on the bucket means no down time waiting for another rig to come and break up hard ground once the soft, cultivated top has been removed - saves down time and wasted non-billable machine hours. it also means that tractors are not struggling pulling scrapers that are finding it hard going to dig into solid ground, in the process burning more fuel than is necesary and putting greater loads on the tractor drivetrains. Rippers allow the TOOMEY bucket to be used in all applications from bulking to grading to final trimming.
04.01.2022 The TOOMEY bucket has 3 separate hydraulic lifting circuits. The bucket is essentially a two-part chassis with the FRONT frame joined to the REAR frame at a center pivot point. The FRONT frame holds the cushion hitch, the rippers and the apron. The REAR frame holds the holds the mouldboard, bowl end ejector and the rear cross levellers. 1. The main lift occurs in the middle of the bucket lift the mouldboard, the cylinders here are used by the laser or GPS system to control t...he height of the cutting edge. The big advatage of this centre lift design is the immediate movement of the edge when the cylinder operates. This allows for high speed grading control and halp maintain the smoothness of the grading operation. 2. The rear cross levellers are a separate item to the main lift and are totally independant from the lift altogether. Apart from the ability to create a cross slope across the blade, these cylinders can also be coupled together to lift the back of the bucket together by a simple toggle switch. 3. The cushion hitch has two functions - cushioning and added height for ground clearance or to make room for maintenance. When you lift all three circuits up, there is roughly 750 mm (2 1/2 feet) of ground clearance all the way around the bucket, front cross beam, cutting edge and at the rear frame. This extra ground clearance has so many obvious uses; crawling over obstacles, helping get out of a bog and little things like being able to change the cutting edges at CHEST HEIGHT - no more laying on the ground to change them.... We get constantly asked by guys unfamiliar with Australian buckets why we have so many hydraulic circuits on a TOOMEY bucket - well, here are three of the reasons why we do!
03.01.2022 A nice little fleet of Toomey buckets.

01.01.2022 When the TOOMEY 4500C starts to move dirt in the Delta, Im sure that the action of theTOOMEY apron will be much appreciated by the operator. When combined with the tip/ejector, this two-piece apron makes easy work of moving dirt, especially that difficult to move wet, sticky type of clay or gumbo. This two-piece apron design has a number of benefits over the single piece arc design. ... 1. Visibility into the bowl from the cabin is the number one most obvious outcome. Whether loading, grading or unloading, the movement of the material in and out of the bowl is clearly seen from the cabin. 2. The large radius arc of the apron can carry up to 40% of the load when closed. When using the teeth cutting edges in a bulking application in particular, the apron is 85% closed (and thats where you have the apron positioned when you load with the teeth edges fitted). The incoming material spills both forwrads into the apron and back into the bowl area. This means that a large percentage of the load is easily placed - it doesnt have to be pushed back and up to reach capacity. This is a very horsepower-efficient way to move bulk material. Also, when loading with the teeth and the apron nearly fully closed, there is very little time required to actually close the apron completely to lock the load in as you lift out of the cut - a mere couple of seconds and it is closed! 3. The upper section of the apron swings forward as it opens. This results in a very open space that provides a minimum of restriction for the movement of material when grading or levelling with the apron fully open or when unloading in a fill area. Because the bowl behind it tips up on an angle to spill the dirt out, there is no high apron wall to restrict the dirt falling forward as is what happens in the single arc apron designs and positive (push) ejector scrapers. 4. The hinge action of the apron acts on the load in a similar way to the sweeping tailgate in the bowl. The apron has a slight squeezing action on the load as it closes BUT as the apron opens, it opens up or widens the internal space and basically lets the material break apart, let me use the word, "decompress". Rather than simply swinging in a curve and maintaining the internal pressure that the loaded material exerts against it, as this apron opens, it literally moves away from the load and allows it to fall out much easier. This two-piece apron design works goes hand-in-hand with the tip/swinging tailgate bowl design of the TOOMEY bucket and makes a very effective all-round tractor-drawn earthmover that can be used in every agricultural field and civil construction application. INFINITE AG will be happy to show you guys in the Delta how effective this combination of bowl and apron really is!
01.01.2022 Finally a photo to share of the 4500C with a load of dirt in Arkansas. Thanks Woody Slagley for this.
