24.01.2022 During the holidays we have had many, many of our leafy stick insects hatch. The last count was 18! If anyone would like one as a pet please let us know. We keep our in the pod like the one in the picture as it’s easy to transport. They are an easy pet - They live for approx one year and eat eucalyptus leaves which need to be changed twice a week. We can’t wait to share our new hatchlings with the children next week.

23.01.2022 This time last year we received four leafy stick insects....during the past twelve months we have observed them lay many many eggs. We have waited patiently and over the past two weeks we have had three baby nymphs hatch, so exciting and just in time for the children to witness this before the break!

23.01.2022 Today’s easy to access learning activity for parents to do at home is outdoor play. We'll be sharing a suggestion each and every week-day on learning from home ...activities for families. First up, it's outdoor play, which is great for your child’s physical health, development and self-confidence. For a whole range of ideas and inspo, check out this extensive list from raisingchildren.net.au. #learningfromhome

23.01.2022 World Bee Day....a day to spread awareness of the significance bees and other pollinators have on the environment and our survival. A great day to share our news that we recently received a Mad Green Grant from Coffs Council to support us in establishing native bees at the preschool, a project we are all excited to embark on.

22.01.2022 A lot of our families are asking us if it’s safe to send their children to preschool. This is advice that we can not give as we are as uncertain as you. However we do have people in parliament that may be privy to more information. Please read this update from our local state member.

22.01.2022 A cool experience on this hot day! This experience provoked lots of questions....I wonder how the flowers got in the ice? what will happen to the flowers when the ice melts? How long will it take the ice to melt?

21.01.2022 We will be putting a jar out at preschool next wwwk to collect donations, however you can also click on the link here and donate if you wish. Thanks

21.01.2022 Today we had a visit from Luca’s pet lizard ‘toothless’. Thanks for sharing your lizard Luca.

18.01.2022 When you see something unhelpful or unsafe PAUSE... Get curious and look for ways to help your child feel and do better.

17.01.2022 "I believe that formally teaching reading to preschoolers is a serious intrusion on natural mental growth. Only a few, who spontaneously, motivated by their own... curiosity, teach themselves to read because they want to find out the meaning, are true early readers. Pushing others to call out words is a grossly oversimplified version of a complex intellectual feat. If we get children to read words before they have ideas, thought and language to make reading interesting, we hand them a key to the door of an unfinished garden. - Jane Healy, PhD https://www.janetlansbury.com//experts-agree-really-babie/

17.01.2022 This coming week is the big vege crunch! We hope to see some veges in the preschool lunch boxes.....stay tuned for a week of vegetable fun!!!

16.01.2022 With Mother's Day coming up next Sunday here in Australia, Maggie wants to offer up a special message for those 'motherless mummies' among us. It can be a reall...y tough day when your own mum isn't around! In this "Maggie Moment" she speaks to those of us who've lost our mums or whose mothers are absent from our lives. Maggie suggests some ways that mothers can reduce the ache in their heart when their mum is absent... and some ways to find that mothering energy from other women in our lives even if we have to keep looking 'til we find it. Note: In this video, Maggie mentions her book: "9 Things: A Back-to-Basics Guide to Calm, Common-sense, Connected Parenting". You can find that here (and it's 40% off this May): https://www.maggiedent.com/shop/books/9-things/

16.01.2022 This week we began meeting with our children each morning who haven't returned to preschool as yet via zoom. It's been great to see their happy faces and engage in conversations. We are also continuing to remain connected via our closed Facebook page where educators share stories and songs each day. We are continually adapting to our new normal during these uncertain times. Thanks to all our families for your active participation, it warms ours hearts to be connected to you all.

15.01.2022 We are excited to have all our children back from next Monday for another great term.Yesterday Kerrie, Kelly and Jess spent time setting up some experiences based on current interests.

14.01.2022 Happy Educators Day to our amazing team!!

14.01.2022 Today we discovered a new friend in our yard....a blue tongue lizard. It was a little shy so you will need to look closely.

13.01.2022 Today we said goodbye to one of our leafy stick insects. The children displayed great empathy, kindness and respect as they worked collaboratively to bury her. Leafy stick insects have a life expectancy of 12 months, we have discovered many amazing facts about stick insects during the past year. Now wait patiently for some of the many many eggs which she laid to hatch.

13.01.2022 Some great ideas for experiences with your children

13.01.2022 Whilst we have all been on term break we have had some exciting renovations taking place at preschool. The existing garage is being transformed into an additional bathroom. This bathroom will provide enhanced access from the outdoors to toilets and hand washing facilities for the children. These are some pictures from last week.

12.01.2022 Some wisdom from Dr Seuss this morning. One of the big lessons that tween and teens learn (often through hard knocks) is who to trust with their heart. They oft...en care deeply about the opinion of the masses, and are more likely to absorb criticisms from of those who aren't invested into them. Kids who are sensitive and empathetic often take a little longer to learn that there are few people in the world entitled to your heart's full attention. But we can help them - be the person who doesn't mind, especially when it doesn't really matter. Be the safe, non-judgemental person who holds space for them to be exactly who they are. xx #inthistogether

09.01.2022 Number 7 is my favourite of the reasons listed Self-Awareness. Lawrence K. Frank, an expert in human development, said this about the value of play: Play...is the way the child learns what no one can teach him. It is the way he explores and orients himself to the actual world of space and time, of things, animals, structures, and people. Through play the child practices and rehearses endlessly the complicated and subtle patterns of human living and communication which he must master if he is to become a participating adult in our social life.
