18.01.2022 No better way to beat lockdown blues than with some movement ~ I will be doing different classes over the next week to help keep us all moving and sane ~ If you have light weights and resistance bands, great. ... ~ Otherwise household bits are all you need; tins of beans, a cushion and a chair ~ Hydration is always key so have a bottle of water nearby ~ All are welcome ~ #toorongaphysiotherapy #physiotherapymalvern #physio #COVID #lockdown #wellness #movement #togetherapart See more

17.01.2022 Pilates ~ Created in the 1920’s by Joseph Pilates, a German born physical trainer. He spent time in the UK and then migrated to the US with his wife, Clara. They opened their studio Body Conditioning Gym in New York in 1923. He firstly used it to rehab soldiers returning from war. Originally his overall clientele was 60% male. ~... Since then Pilates has been adapted to various different situations for both rehabilitation as well as building both strength and stability for people. It is regularly used in programs for elite athletes, lower back rehabilitation, pre and post natal stability/strength and many more. ~ The Principles of Pilates are; - Breathing - Concentration - Control - Centring - Precision - Flow ~ In Australia in 2019, the APA (Australian Physiotherapy Association) encouraged it’s members to use a different word than just Pilates for the use of this method. It was being widely used by people who had perhaps just done a brief course of Pilates. Hence, not having as much of an understanding of the bodies anatomy and physiology as a Physiotherapist. This is why you now hear more about Clinical Pilates, Clinical Rehab etc, when you see this it (should) mean that it is being provided by a trained Physiotherapist (only). ~ #toorongaphysiotherapy #physiotherapymalvern #pilates #clinical #clinicalpilates #clinicalrehab #physio #rehab #strength #stability #functionalrehab #strongcore #strongbase #lovewhatyoudo See more

14.01.2022 We are delighted to welcome Ella to Tooronga Physiotherapy as our new part-time receptionist ~ She is currently a university student finishing her studies of physiology, psychology and criminology ~ As an ex classical ballet dancer who suffered countless injuries for many years, she has become very familiar with physiotherapy and Pilates. She personally saw the benefits of both in her own rehabilitation and performance ... ~ Ella enjoys Pilates regularly and loves a HIIT session as well as her dancing ~ She will be a welcome face when you enter the clinic and has already been a great asset ~ #toorongaphysiotherapy #physiotherapymalvern See more

12.01.2022 Delighted to say I have been fully vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine. Ensuring protection for both you and I from COVID-19 ~ I wanted to leave a week go by after my second vaccine before posting so I could share my experience with you. ~ Once I was eligible to get vaccinated I felt grateful and got booked in straight away. ... I personally see it as the way to a healthier and safer community. As well as a step closer to seeing my family and friends at home ~ On both my visits to Monash Medical Centre, Clayton. I felt completely safe, in a very COVID safe environment. It was most efficient and well run, the only wait was the mandatory 15 minute wait post each vaccine. ~ After my first Pfizer vaccine, that evening and next day I had some pain (4/10) in my arm at the injection site. Otherwise, I experienced no other side effects. ~ After the second Pfizer dose, again I had some pain around the injection site. The next morning I experienced a ‘scratchy’ throat and blocked nose. They were gone again the next day. I was and have been generally more tired this week. Not limiting my day-to-day but by the end of the day, I was ‘all done in’ more than normal! ~ The Medicare section in your myGov account will also be updated stating when and which vaccine you had. So convenient. Especially once we can travel again ~ I wanted to share my experience, whether good or bad. Overall, my experience of having the Pfizer vaccine was very good with minimal side effects. ~ We generally hear more of the worse cases. I am delighted to share my good experience with you. If this puts you at ease regarding the vaccine, then fantastic! ~ Let’s protect our community ~ #toorongaphysiotherapy #physiotherapymalvern #COVID #vaccinated #protection #letsdoit #teamofus #community #letsgosomewhere #onestepclosertofamily See more

11.01.2022 Love what you do and you’ll never ‘work’ a day in your life ~ A client reminded me that it was exactly a year since I opened this clinic, it hadn’t even hit me! I rarely stop and acknowledge self achievements but always encourage others to do so. I’m always thinking ‘ok that’s done, what’s next’. It’s so important to reflect on both the good and bad so we can learn and grow. ~ Here goes .... It was a very exciting but daunting step I took last December to open @tooronga_ph...ysiotherapy, who saw 2020 coming and who knows what 2021 has in store. Either way, I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute and find myself so lucky to say that. I am so happy to have built the wellness centre vibe that I aimed to do by having David (massage therapist) and Loretta (psychologist) on board too. ~ It was certainly not always easy and challenges were many but I have learned so much and have a lot to be grateful for. ~ Thank you for trusting me to manage your different pains and worries Thank you for allowing me to help you achieve your goals Thank you for your patience with me on the IT side of things ~ I honestly buzz when goals are achieved and just find it so humbling to be able to help with that ~ My aim for 2021 is to continue to provide you with a high quality, genuine caring service and I hope to build and grow the business more. I will continue to complete professional development and take every opportunity for growth ~ #toorongaphysiotherapy #physiotherapymalvern #1yearold #reflection #grateful #physio #pilates #lovewhatyoudo See more

10.01.2022 Incontinence ~ More than 5 million Australians experience some form of incontinence. This varies from young ages to older people living in care homes. ~ Approximately 6 in 10 women experience incontinence issues. ... ~ Approximately 3 in 10 men will be affected with incontinence. ~ Incontinence can be a sensitive subject to talk about and a certain level of embarrassment and discomfort is felt with it. Which is completely understandable. Based on these figures, please be assured that if you are experiencing any form of incontinence, you are not alone. ~ The positive take home from this is that, you do have treatment options. It is not a ‘normal’ experience that you have to ‘just’ live with. It is a lot more common than you think so please don’t be too ashamed to seek help from your trusted health professional. 08.01.2022 Diastasis Recti / Abdominal Separation Separation of the 2 muscle bellies of the rectus abdominis muscle in your abdomen. It is very important, if you have abdominal separation, that you do get it treated. ~ For women, if it occurs for you during pregnancy and you would like to get pregnant again, it is definitely beneficial to get this addressed before conceiving again. ... If you have had it once, you are more likely to have it again. It is not advised to have one and not get it addressed prior to conceiving again. Otherwise, it would just be worse second time round. ~ Your abdomen doesn’t only support your reproductive and digestive tissues. It also supports your back to keep you upright and functioning. You have 3 layers of abdominal muscles, if any of these have issues then it is not going to support your back as it should. This can lead to back pain and bad postural habits. ~ This is a very common treatable issue, please get in touch if you are having issues with this. ~ #toorongaphysiotherapy #physiotherapymalvern #physio #womenshealthweek #womenshealthphysio #pregnancy #diastasisrecti #abdominalseparation #givingbirth #weightmanagement #knowledgeispower #bodyawareness #selfempowerment #selfcare See more
