23.01.2022 No Sundy Arvo Plizzans? Join us for a cruisey walk along The Riverwalk this afternoon at 5pm! To help accumulate some km's for our Groundwork Challenge fundraiser, we are doing a casual stroll along the river, finishing back at Felon's for a beverage and some snacks.... Time: 5pm kick-off Where: Meeting at Felon's (at the gardenbeds near the East Grass Landing and The Barrel Hall - previously Howard's Hall) To: Merthyr Park, New Farm and back (approx 5km round trip/1 hour duration) All kilometres walked will go toward the team tally, too! Anyone is welcome to join us, including our doggo friends. HSW/Felon's is dog friendly so bring pup along for a fun Sunday stroll https://www.groundworkchallenge.org.au//ToowongFamilyVetFr
22.01.2022 PARALYSIS TICKS ARE BACK Whilst paralysis ticks are here 24/7, every day of the year, we are in high risk times from now until the end of summer. We find a correlation between warmer weather - particularly the week or so following rain or wet weather - and tick cases. In addition to new flora growth, our native fauna (possums, birds, snakes, small marsupials like bandicoots) are moving about more, aiding transportation of ticks into our seemingly safe suburban backyards.... If you find a tick on your pet, waste no time removing it (if you don't feel comfortable doing so yourself, call us and we can for you!). Please make sure it is a tick before trying to remove (ie all ticks have legs, body parts like nipples do not ). You want to get to the very base where the mouthpiece connects with the skin, and using a tick remover/tweezers/nails/a small fork, firmly click it out of the skin, avoiding squeezing the body where possible. Get your pet checked by a vet. We want to check that your pet's: chest sounds clear, presence of adequate gag (ability to swallow), no heart abnormalities, temperature is normal, and no signs of paralysis (even once a tick is removed, signs/symptoms can progress for 24 hours following). Start prevention if you have not already We can advise on ongoing monitoring/treatment from thereon out. Avoid areas with high fauna populations, long grasses, scrubby bushy areas and always - regardless of prevention controls in place - search your pet, particularly if you've visited any of the areas above. Last week we had our first two patients with ticks - one cat, no prevention onboard and a Border Collie on Bravecto. Can you guess which animal required treatment for STP (Symptomatic Tick Paralysis)? Yep, the catto (now fully recovered ). With cost-effective and easy-to-use preventatives on the market such as Bravecto, Nexgard, Revolution Plus etc, please don't risk losing your pet to something so easily preventable.

18.01.2022 LOST Help us find Frankie Frankie is an 9 week old Conure, who was lovingly hand raised, but decided that the outside world was worth exploring.... He flew out of a window of his Toowong home on Wednesday and his mum is absolutely devastated. Please keep an eye out for this little fella. If you believe you've sighted him or have managed to catch him let us know and we'll put you in touch with his family. Thank you
17.01.2022 UPDATE: We're thrilled to let you all know that, against all odds, Frankie has been found and is now back with his mum, thanks to a neighbour. Great news! LOST... Help us find Frankie Frankie is an 9 week old Conure, who was lovingly hand raised, but decided that the outside world was worth exploring. He flew out of a window of his Toowong home on Wednesday and his mum is absolutely devastated. Please keep an eye out for this little fella. 17.01.2022 UPDATE: REUNITED! Thank you all for sharing and commenting. Budda's owners have been found and they are in the process of picking her up now.... This little independent woman was found taking herself for a leisurely stroll (full harness and lead attire on) near the Toowong Bowls Club (59 Gailey Road) yesterday afternoon. She is not desexed, not microchipped, and no collar or name tags attached. For now we shall be calling her Jane, and hopefully find both her real name *and owner(s)* - sooner rather than later! She is a sweet dog that takes direction nicely and in great condition (so clearly looked after) but with a bark to match her 35-odd-kilograms, we unfortunately can't keep her here at the clinic much longer. If you or anyone you know, recognises her or has any information about who she may be, please phone the clinic on (07) 3613 9644 and SHARE and (Y) the help spread the word. Thanks as always and fingers crossed

11.01.2022 FOUND This young man was brought in to us last night after being seen a little lost on Outlook Cres, Bardon. Again, his microchip details are not current so we have been having difficulties reaching an owner. He has a collar but no tags.... Does anyone know him? Please share or let us know if you know who he is.
11.01.2022 November 17th, 2019 was our SEVENTH annual Santa Paws/Christmas Pawtrait event here at Toowong Family Vet! Though all very 'last minute,' without our most favourite man, Santa Paws, himself - the day was a raging success - both with the piccies and the level of cuteness in all of these little supawstars!
05.01.2022 ANZAC DAY 2020. We are open today between 8:00am and 1:00pm for anything you may need. Whilst we don't have an ANZAC or poppy-themed tie for Normie, he does have a new pizza bandanna that we feel is at the least on par colour-wise. As always, we're thankful for the lives - albeit somewhat different now, than we are used to - in which we are able to lead. Now more than ever, we're grateful for this wonderful country we call our home.... "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old Age shall not weary them, Nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them."
05.01.2022 It's Christmas time and in the spirit of giving, we would like to support this very worthy cause to help our native habitats and wildlife in their struggle to survive in 2021 - and beyond. To this end, we hope that our wonderful team and amazing clients and community can join together to help bring a little joy by giving a helping paw to nature. Between the eight of us, we are aiming for 1000km to be walked, which works out to be 125km for each of us. Any and all donations a...re super duper welcomed, appreciated and toward a fantastic cause. Plus, it miiiight just help make us get our butts out of bed and out moving- we'll take whatever motivation works! https://www.groundworkchallenge.org.au//ToowongFamilyVetFr
03.01.2022 FOUND (but sadly passed) This little cockatiel was found around 5:00pm yesterday, sitting on the ground in Toowong cemetery. We are calling it a male based on the whiter head (females tend to be more grey). He was brought into us, quite friendly but emaciated, without a tag or identification. There were no obvious injuries to him, but it is possible that being out and about, he could have picked up Psittacine beak and feather disease (a highly contagious, fatal virus that *a...ll* birds are susceptible to). He also may have been missing for quite some time and unable to fend for, or feed and tend to, himself. If you or anyone knows who this little guy may have belonged to, please do contact us. Our lovely Domenic took him home for the night, he was safe and warm, and though sadly passed away, he had company, was shown kindness and no longer alone. We will keep him here at the clinic with us in hope that an owner can be located. Please (Y) or SHARE to help spread the word, even though it's a sad one to share. Thank you as always. (Please take note that whenever finding any bird, do not house or have them associate with your own birds incase they are carrying PBFD. This virus is prevalent on a disasterous scale in our native bird communities, highly contagious - the only (and often most kindest) 'treatment' is humane euthanasia.)
01.01.2022 Happy Mother's Day to all the Mothers out there, with a special shout out to the Pet Mums. We may not get pasta necklaces or assorted crafted items such as handmade cards and frames, but we do get little one-of-a-kind poo nuggets and hairballs equally filled with love... Share a snap of your little furball love-bug below
01.01.2022 OWNER HAS BEEN LOCATED After a fair bit of investigation we located this little ones mum. We're so happy!... This pretty 'lil lady was found exploring Sheehan St, Milton, this morning. Unfortunately, her microchip details aren't current so we can't reach her parents. She's a super cute and very confident kitten. If she's yours or you recognise her please let us know or feel free to spread the word by sharing. Thank you
