21.01.2022 Arguably the teams favourite toy in the practice, the iTero Scanner allows us to take a 3D scan of our patients teeth ahead of their treatment. Each patient prior to starting treatment has records taken for medicolegal reasons. Before the advancement in dental technology these records were taken using Alginate impressions (second photo). The iTero scanner is a high precision intraoral scanner which offers a faster scan and higher accuracy because of its technology. 10.01.2022 OVERBITE vs. OVERJET We asked Dr Goodyear to briefly explain (she could talk about orthodontics all day!) the difference between OVERBITE and OVERJET. OVERBITE is the gap between the top and bottom teeth vertically i.e. how much the top teeth cover the bottom teeth. The ideal is 1/3 of the lower teeth being covered by the top.... OVERJET is the gap between the top and bottom teeth horizontally i.e. how far the top teeth are in front of the bottom teeth. Ideally this would be 2-4mm.

07.01.2022 X-RAYS Why do I need to have x-rays taken for my appointment? X-rays (radiographs) are a form of electromagnetic radiation that are used for medical imaging. They provide essential information that helps Dr Goodyear determine where problems exist. X-rays show details of bone within the body, dental x-rays show bone and teeth and give an understanding to the size, shape and position of tooth roots which cannot be observed any other way.... An OPG (Orthopantomagram) x-ray shows the entire mouth on a single x-ray. From this x-ray Dr Goodyear is able to determine if there are any missing or extra teeth. Dr Goodyear also uses this x-ray to check for developing teeth that havent come through the gum yet such as wisdom teeth. (2nd image) A Lateral Cephalogram x-ray projects the entire head so that the teeth can be viewed in relation to the jaw and the jaws in relation to each other.
