23.01.2022 Dear Members, It is with great sadness we report the deaths, in the last few days, of two very long- time and loyal members of Toowong Rowing Club. Terry Connolly died in the early hours of Friday 17 April and just three days later, also early in the morning, we lost Tom Jack on Monday 20 April. Vale two great members of our great club.... Please click https://cdn.revolutionise.com.au/news/anpwsx3jodliysf8.pdf to read tributes to both Terry Connolly and Tom Jack written by Russell Kerrison in conjuction with Chris Lyndon and Rudi Bianchi.

22.01.2022 What makes a winning crew? Is it synchronous strokes? Strong legs? Or a butt pinch before the race? The latter seemed to work for the Queensland Fire and Emerge...ncy Services - QFES crew of Gabe and Ben as they crossed the line in the COVID modified QLD Emergency Services HOTB Rowing Challenge. Bec and Will did the Queensland Police Service proud by coming in second, with the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) crew of Mat and Jack right on their stern, coming in third with less than one second between them. I doubt Rowing Queensland will ask Jeff Conn and me, Janelle Filkin, to umpire races any time soon; we certainly added to the excitement with some extreme close-ups.

22.01.2022 Toowong Rowing Club Toowong Rowing Club LogoREMINDER - TOM JACK MEMORIAL SERVICE - THIS SUNDAY AT 3PM Dear Members,... The easing of restrictions across our state now means we can go ahead with the service for Tom Jack at the club on Sunday December 13th at 3pm. Tom was a passionate member of the Toowong Rowing Club for nigh on seven decades. He left us on April 20th 2020 after a protracted and hard fought battle with cancer for over thirty years. It was always Tom's wish not to have a funeral but rather that his friends gather "around a keg" and participate in the preferred disposal of his ashes at his beloved Toowong Rowing Club. Tom's wife Dorothy together with the Chairman and President of the Toowong Rowing Club invite you to join them at the Club on Sunday December 13th at 3pm above the TRC pontoon to share the deep respect we have for this giant of our rowing community. Attendees will also witness the sprinkling of Tom's ashes on the Brisbane River from the VIII "Tom Jack" rowed by some of his old friends. Light refreshements will be provided as unfortunately gathering around a keg is still off-limits. Due to Covid restrictions and under our Covid safe plan members wishing to attend can RSVP by email to Russell Kerrison at [email protected] no later than December 9th. Yours in rowing, Peter Schryver Chairman/Toowong Rowing Club

22.01.2022 Tom Jack Memorial Service - Postponed Dear TRC Community, friends and family of Tom Jack,... With 80-90 confirmed RSVPs which was under the 100 cap planned to attend the memorial service at TRC this Sunday, we were hopeful we could give Tom the farewell he deserved. However, the recent changes to public gatherings from QLD Health has proven to be the final straw, as confirmed by the Committee and Rowing Queenslands analysis of the COVID Aquatic Sport Sector Industry Plan constraints. The Toowong Rowing Club will instead, host a Memorial Service later in the year and at a time that allows a robust gathering and a cold drink befitting what Tom was expecting! Kind regards to all, Paul Pettigrew, Russell Kerrison & Alan Bromiley (on behalf of Dorothy and Toms family)

21.01.2022 Dear members, Following the relaxation of some of the restrictions last week including social gathering numbers, we have had many enquiries about TRCs return to rowing. Rowing Queensland (RQ) have been in continual discussion with health authorities to establish the guidelines under which Queensland clubs can recommence operations. To be eligible to row, each club has to formulate a revised rowing plan of how the club will operate incorporating the following restrictions:... Only singles, doubles and pairs can be used; Limitations on shared boats and oars; Limitations on multiple crew boat partners; Bathrooms and change rooms will not be accessible; Strict supervision guidelines are adhered to; and Very limited numbers allowed at the shed at any one time. Given we have a club of over 250 members and that our participation as a club has to be in strict compliance to the above restrictions and all other social distancing requirements, the committee have been mapping out what this looks like for our membership. Our plan will be submitted to RQ at the beginning of this week for approval. At this stage we are planning a very limited return to operations commencing Monday 18 May 2020. We will have allocated days to the following groups; High Performance, Womens masters and Mens masters. Members will be invited to register an expression of interest via a link on our website which will be published later this week after our submission to RQ has been approved. Our successful return to rowing will be dependent on our members adhering to this rowing plan. Whilst we finalise approval of our rowing plan, we ask all members to consider your own personal situation with respect to your own health and safety and if you need to be at the club and on the water in a limited capacity at this time. Yours in rowing, Peter Schryver Chairman

12.01.2022 More Sad News Sadly, legendary cox and coach Tom Jack passed away peacefully early this morning. @rowingaustralia coach and team manager, and legend of @toowong_rowing_club , @bbcrowing and @rowingqld ... Tom recalled watching the Kings Cup as a teenager from Camerons Rocks when it was raced in 1951 at Hamilton. He coxed the QLD Kings Cup eight in South Australia in 1961 and was the umpire when the Kings Cup was last raced on the Milton Reach of the Brisbane River in 1963. Seen here in Hazewinkel, Belgium coaching his last of many Australian crews in 1996. Rest In Peace Tom. We thank you and we remember you

With the restrictions of COVID-19, the big question we are all asking is when are our rowing sheds going to re-open?; can I go back to training at my school shed?; and/or, can I go back to my club?. 08.01.2022 Toowong Rowing Club IMPORTANT UPDATE - Rowing opportunities ... Dear members, Last week Rowing Queensland received approval to allow clubs to use big boats provided a Covid Safe Operations plan is submitted and approved. Our plan must incorporate many strict requirements stipulated by Queensland Health Authorities. Our High Performance Athletes and also our Social Rowers are returning to the water during this period so we have had to develop a plan to accommodate this. Some of the core requirements are; No more than 20 people at the club at any one time Accurate records of attendance are a legal requirement Use of Showers and changerooms not permitted Toilets are available for use but members must clean them after use Gym still closed for all members Coxswains MUST wear a P2 Grade Mask while coxing Cox boxes will be allocated to each coxswain The kitchenette near the change rooms is to be used as an isolation area should a member become ill or display Covid-19 symptoms while at the club To allow the committee to manage the compliance of these requirements we are allocating days to each demographic of the club. High Performance, Masters Men and Women and Social Rowers will be allocated days and times to attend the club for training. For our Masters and Social Rowers you will see below a link to the booking page for each of our groups. As has been the case since we started limited operations please click on the link applicable to you and book a session. Should you wish to book multiple sessions you will need to click on the link again and choose another session. For our HP Athletes, in consultation with your coaches, we have allocated days for you to train. We require you to register for the event, read the requirements and acknowledge that you will comply with the set protocol. Your coaches will communicate with you via your normal channels for crew combinations. We are acutely aware that this may sound difficult but a lot of effort has gone into making this a safe and compliant process for what is the largest club in Queensland. We will provide allocations for the week ahead each Sunday via email. Please ensure you only row in your allocated time and allocated day - NO EXCEPTIONS. We would like to primarily keep our Masters squads to small boats as they have been doing, our social rowers to eights only and HP in big boats. Should a masters crew like to request a four or quad we will allocate this on request. The links to register are below; High Performance - https://www.toowongrowing.com/events/67709/ Social Rowing - https://www.toowongrowing.com/events/67712/ Masters Women - https://www.toowongrowing.com/events/67711/ Masters Men - https://www.toowongrowing.com/events/67710/ Should you or anyone you know of have trouble registering please email us at [email protected] Regards, Peter Schryver Chairman Toowong Rowing Club

08.01.2022 Toowong Rowing Club LogoVale James Garner (Jim) Funeral Notice Dear Members, It is with sadness I inform James (Jim) Garner passed away peacefully on Wednesday 11 November 2020. Jim was a long-standing club member and great friend to many at TRC with over 65 years association with rowing in Qld and Victoria.... 07.01.2022 Dear members, Given that all Queenslanders received some great news in the easing of some restrictions by the Queensland Government at short notice last weekend, the committee thought it timely to provide an update on what is required by our club to adapt to these requirements as we approach the June 12 Stage 2 easing of restrictions. Firstly, the committee would like to acknowledge and thank the cooperation and compliance of those members who have registered to row to date f...ollowing the restrictions put in place by Queensland Health. With the support of Rowing Queensland, we have been able to facilitate limited rowing for recreational exercise for many members. To quickly adapt to Stage 2, the committee are once again meeting to map out how our club can comply with the Stage 2 easing of restrictions. I would like to reiterate the words of Rowing Queensland CEO, Ian Holzberger and say that, the easing of restrictions is not a one size fits all guideline. Each rowing club in Queensland is again required to conduct its own risk assessment and revise its operating procedures to comply with these updated guidelines and seek Rowing Queenslands approval. Some of the restrictive guidelines include that the club has a formal and recorded cleaning process for bathrooms, changerooms and gym equipment. We are also required to provide an approved process to manage social distancing of members that has no more than 20 members at the club at any one time. As you can imagine in a club of our size mapping this out is complex but Im happy to say we are on the front foot and expect our processes to be in place by late next week. In the interim, it is important to understand that the club is still closed for ALL members unless attending for the purposes of exercise via the committee approved process previously communicated to members. Any breach of these guidelines is required to be reported to Rowing Queensland and in turn Queensland Health and would jeopardise the clubs return to full operations. Once the committee are in receipt of our updated approval for limited operation, we will communicate this to the membership. Yours in rowing, Peter Schryver

03.01.2022 Posted @awmemorial On this day 105 years ago, Australians and New Zealanders fought side by side, landing in a place far from their homelands; a place that would become known as ANZAC Cove. Though the Gallipoli Campaign would end nine months later, those that survived would be joined by more reinforcements to fight for another three years until the guns finally fell silent on the 11th November 1918. On land, sea and air, from a nation of less than five million, 62,000 gave ...their lives in an Australian uniform. A further 155,000 were wounded or imprisoned. From a nation of around one million people, around 18,000 New Zealanders were killed and more than 40,000 wounded. Today Anzac Day goes beyond the anniversary of the landing on Gallipoli in 1915. It is the day on which we remember all Australians who served and died in war and on operational service. The spirit of Anzac, with its qualities of courage, mateship, and sacrifice, continues to have meaning and relevance for our sense of national identity. Lest We Forget. #AnzacAtHome #AnzacDay2020 #Anzac2020 #myAWM #AWMemorial #AnzacDay #AtHomeWeRemember #LestWeForget

Our Sign In register will be updated in the next day as members attending the club will also be required to attest that you are not the subject of a community tracing alert. The continued operation of our sport relies on all of us being vigilant at this time. Yours in rowing, Peter SchryverChairman

01.01.2022 Club spirits were high to wrap up the year that was at the TRC Xmas BBQ Breakfast and Kibble Cup on Saturday 19 December. Dating from 1891, TRC Kibble Cup is still held annually and holds pride of place as one of Qld’s oldest rowing trophies. Mixed 4- racing amongst our HP and masters was hotly contested with the winning crew of Jack Bowser, Tim Bugg, Christian Place and Daniella Anderson taking out the final by 2 boat lengths.
