24.01.2022 Traipsing through the cemetery is not everyone's cup of tea. However we all enjoyed the tour which we organised on behalf of the CWA. It was good to have a good excuse for the secretary and I to get out of the rooms to map out the tour. We also prepared a small booklet giving a potted history of the graves we visited. All in a day's work or should I say several days work at TDDFHS.

19.01.2022 Just love the old Government Gazettes. Was indexing a 1950 one recently and came across changes to the By-Laws of Nebo Shire in relation to brothels. Naturally it was very long winded and I have condensed it. This is what they meant. Any person who keeps a house of ill fame or allows it to be kept as such shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding fifty pounds, and to a daily penalty not exceeding five pounds. Wonder what was happening in that neck of the woods to make the council enact this by-law?
19.01.2022 Stuck at home in lockdown? Here's a simple task to spend time on. Do you have family or friends buried in the Drayton & Toowoomba Cemetery? Submissions for volume 5 of stories about people buried there are now open, to be received by 31 August. For more information, please contact me at [email protected]. Marionne
19.01.2022 The research centre will be closed this Thursday 18th from 1.00 pm. One of our life members Doreen Powell has sadly passed away and many of us will be attending her funeral which is to take place at 2.30 pm at Burstows Funerals.
16.01.2022 Hi Everyone, Marionne and I have just finished filming a short segment on the Digger programs that we have here at the research centre. They are a brilliant resource for finding those elusive relatives who may have been misindexed. Cheers Marie
16.01.2022 Love these dusty old gazettes. Reading some of the government notices in 1919 when they were keeping tabs on the birth, death and marriages in Queensland. During the month of December 509 births were registered. There was one twin birth (1 boy, 1 girl) 46 children (23 boys, 23 girls) born out of wedlock and there were 4 legitimations. As I look through later years will be interesting to find out how long they kept these statistics.
15.01.2022 Christmas wishes.
14.01.2022 Since 1987 we have been producing a society journal that has been shared with our members and member societies. Today our secretary took the time to look through the first volume and extract some of the interesting stories that appeared over the following 12 months. Here's the link. I have also copied it to our community page where it will stay and others will be added. https://documentcloud.adobe.com/link/track
